Generating power from renewable biogas in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) is an environment-friendly, efficient, and promising energy conversion process. Biogas can be used in SOFCs via a reforming process for which dry reforming is more suitable as the reforming agent exists in the biogas mixture. Biogas can be directly reformed to H2 -rich fuel stream in the anode chamber of a SOFC by the heat released during power generation. Exploiting the heat and water produced in the SOFC for internal reforming of biogas makes the energy conversion process very efficient; however, various challenges are reported. Thus, indirect internal reforming …

Exploration Of The Use Of Palladium And Nickel To Catalyze Enolate Cross-Coupling And The Enantioselective Mizoroki-Heck Reaction., Mary Elizabeth Sexton (Charlton)
Bryn Mawr College Dissertations and Theses
Palladium catalysis is a common synthetic tool utilized by organic chemists to create carbon-carbon bonds. We utilized palladium to catalyze the γ-arylation of α, β-unsaturated ketones, and esters. This work expands on palladium-catalyzed α-arylation chemistry and extends it to the vinylogous variation at the γ-position. We report the regioselective synthesis of mono-γ-arylated 7-methoxy-4-methylcoumarin. We also report efforts towards applying our reaction conditions to other α,β-unsaturated ketones and esters to expand the scope of our reaction conditions.
In addition, we utilized palladium to catalyze the enantioselective asymmetric intramolecular Mizoroki-Heck reaction to produce potentially bioactive phenanthridinone analogs. We achieve this through the …

A variety of [MPc] a (M = Sc, Ti, and V; a = -1, 0, and +1) complexes were studied, and the electronic properties, interaction energies, and charge transfer properties of all of the studied molecules were systematically discussed. Among the studied complexes, the Sc and Ti phthalocyanines were more reactive toward the adsorption of FA gas. Moreover, it was …

Triethanolamine (TEA), triisopropanolamine (TIPA), diethanol isopropanolamine (DEIPA) are necessary cement additives, and knowing their contents is needed for quality control and also to understand final properties of the cement. Whether it is the production of grinding aids, technical research and development or application research all involve the detection of grinding aids. This work developed a simple analytical technique for the simultaneous analysis of these alkanolamines in liquid cement grinding aids using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with evaporative light scattering detection (ELSD). HPLC was conducted by an XBridge C18 column (with dimensions 4.6 × 250 mm and 5 ?m particles) …

To improve bioavailability and stability of hydrophobic and hydrophilic compounds, nanoemulsions are good alternatives as delivery systems because of their nontoxic and nonirritant nature. Glutathione (GSH) suffers from low stability in water, where its encapsulation in nanoemulsions is a powerful strategy to its stability in aqueous systems. The aim of this study was to obtain nanoemulsions from the hydrophobic/hydrophilic contents of N. sativa seed oil so as to improve GSH stability along with bioavailability of N. sativa seed oil. Then, the prepared nanoemulsions were tested for in vitro hepatoprotective activity against ethanol toxicity. To the best of our knowledge, there …

This study involves the quantitative analysis of high free fatty acid crude palm oil, the separation of palmitic acid and synthesis of palm palmitic acid-based bioplastic. Synthesis of dimethyl 2-tetradecylmalonate (DMTDM) using methyl palmitate (MP) with sodium hydride (NaH) in the presence of reactive solvent of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) was carried out. The reaction conditions comprise at a mole ratio of MP: DMC: NaH: dimethylformamide (DMF) (0.1:2:0.25:1) at 60 °C for 14 h with 88.3 ± 1.4% yield. FTIR spectra of DMTDM showed the ester carbonyl group at 1740 cm-1. The polymerization of DMTDM with 1,6-hexandiol or 1,12-dodecandiol was carried …

Regarding the abundant use of metals for different purposes, it becomes more critical from various scientific and technologi¬cal perspectives to discover novel agents as selective probes for the detection of specific metals. In our previous studies, we have shown that aqueous solutions of natural urolithins (i.e., hydroxyl-substituted benzo[c]chromen-6-one derivatives) are selective Iron (III) sen¬sors in fluorescence assays. In this study, we have extrapolated these findings to another coumarine compound (i.e., 3-Hydroxy-7,8,9,10- tetrahydro-6H-benzo[c]chromen-6-one) and compared the selective metal binding properties with Urolithin B (i.e., 3-Hydroxy-6H-benzo[c]chromen-6-one). Following the synthesis and structure identification studies, the fluorometric studies pointed out that the lactam group …

In this paper, magnetic-molecularly imprinted polymer was used for the preconcentration of trace levels of imidacloprid in water and apple samples prior to liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometric determination. The selectivity of the magnetic polymer was united with the sensitivity and the high resolving power of the chromatographic system. The developed method showed a linear range from 10.0 to 500.0 μg/L. The quantitative recoveries were obtained for water and apple samples in the range of 92.0%-99.0 %. The relative standard deviations of intra-day and inter-day tests were found to be in the range of 0.8%-1.2% and 1.2%-1.6 %, respectively. In addition, …
