Tocopherols and tocotrienols in the combined form are known as tocols. Changes of total and individual tocols and sterols concentration of canola oil and deodorizer distillate (DD) during different processing stages were evaluated with the application of gas chromatography (GC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). For sterols analysis, GC coupled with flame ionization detector (FID) was used while tocols in canola oil samples and DD, normal phase (NP) HPLC was applied. The results of the present study indicated that levels of total and individual tocols and sterols content were decreased during processing (neutralization to deodorization). Deodorization was found to be …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Sorbitol is one of the platform chemicals and can be produced from various renewable and sustainable sources via different processes. Hydrothermal liquefaction is an effective and promising approach to produce sorbitol, since the subcritical reaction media and appropriate catalysts provide a selective production of platform chemicals. In this study, sorbitol was produced from different renewable sources (cellulose and glucose) in the presence of Ru-based catalysts (Ru/SiO2, Ru/AC, Ru/SBA-15, and Ru/SBA-15-SO3) under subcritical conditions. The highest cellulose conversion was achieved as 90% in the presence of Ru/SBA-15-SO3 for 1 h of reaction duration. The highest sorbitol yield (%) by hydrothermal liquefaction …

It is suggested the reaction produces an intermediate product, which is dimethylethyl-1-phenylethyl peroxide through a radical mechanism. A small amount of benzaldehyde was observed because benzaldehyde went autoxidation to form benzoic …

High energy demand driven by decreasing fossil fuels, and global warming because of the burning of fossil fuels necessitates the utilization of renewable and clean energy. One of these renewable energy sources is biodiesel. The increasing trend of biodiesel over the last 20 years tends to result in increasing glycerol (Gly), which is produced during the biodiesel production in 10% ratio (w/w) as a by-product. Using Gly as raw material is an alternative way to produce bio-based new products such as glycerol carbonate (GlyC). GlyC is a value-added product of Gly/vegetable oil and this product can be used as a …
