On Extension Of Mittag-Leffler Function, Ekta Mittal, Rupakshi M. Pandey, Sunil Joshi

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we study the extended Mittag -Leffler function by using generalized beta function and obtain various differential properties, integral representations. Further, we discuss Mellin transform of these functions in terms of generalized Wright hyper geometric function and evaluate Laplace transform, and Whittaker transform in terms of extended beta function. Finally, several interesting special cases of extended Mittag -Leffler functions have also be given.

A Robust Uniform B-Spline Collocation Method For Solving The Generalized Phi-Four Equation, W. K. Zahra, W. A. Ouf, M. S. El-Azab Jun 2016

A Robust Uniform B-Spline Collocation Method For Solving The Generalized Phi-Four Equation, W. K. Zahra, W. A. Ouf, M. S. El-Azab

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we develop a numerical solution based on cubic B-spline collocation method. By applying Von-Neumann stability analysis, the proposed technique is shown to be unconditionally stable. The accuracy of the presented method is demonstrated by a test problem. The numerical results are found to be in good agreement with the exact solution.

Cobb-Douglas Based Firm Production Model Under Fuzzy Environment And Its Solution Using Geometric Programming, Palash Mandal, Arindam Garai, Tapan K. Roy

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we consider Cobb-Douglas production function based model in a firm under fuzzy environment, and its solution technique by making use of geometric programming. A firm may use many finite inputs such as labour, capital, coal, iron etc. to produce one single output. It is well known that the primary intention of using production function is to determine maximum output for any given combination of inputs. Also, the firm may gain competitive advantages if it can buy and sell in any quantities at exogenously given prices, independent of initial production decisions. On the other hand, in reality, constraints …

Thinking Poker Through Game Theory, Damian Palafox Jun 2016

Thinking Poker Through Game Theory, Damian Palafox

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

Poker is a complex game to analyze. In this project we will use the mathematics of game theory to solve some simplified variations of the game. Probability is the building block behind game theory. We must understand a few concepts from probability such as distributions, expected value, variance, and enumeration methods to aid us in studying game theory. We will solve and analyze games through game theory by using different decision methods, decision trees, and the process of domination and simplification. Poker models, with and without cards, will be provided to illustrate optimal strategies. Extensions to those models will be …

The Evolution Of Cryptology, Gwendolyn Rae Souza Jun 2016

The Evolution Of Cryptology, Gwendolyn Rae Souza

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

We live in an age when our most private information is becoming exceedingly difficult to keep private. Cryptology allows for the creation of encryptive barriers that protect this information. Though the information is protected, it is not entirely inaccessible. A recipient may be able to access the information by decoding the message. This possible threat has encouraged cryptologists to evolve and complicate their encrypting methods so that future information can remain safe and become more difficult to decode. There are various methods of encryption that demonstrate how cryptology continues to evolve through time. These methods revolve around different areas of …

Modeling Fantasy Football Quarterbacks, Kyle Zeberlein, Myles Wallin May 2016

Modeling Fantasy Football Quarterbacks, Kyle Zeberlein, Myles Wallin

Celebration of Learning

Fantasy football is a way to score NFL players based off of their statistics in particular categories. We have created formulas for modeling every quarterback’s fantasy football points per game in the 2015-2016 season. Our model is partitioned into four sub-models depending on the length of the quarterback’s career in the NFL. We have developed a weighted model based on previous years’ performance of the quarterback, of the defense, and of the quarterback against the defense using data from the NFL. We compare our projections for the season against Yahoo’s projections for the season.

Mathematical Modeling Of Quadcopter Dynamics, Qikai Huang (Bruce Wingo) May 2016

Mathematical Modeling Of Quadcopter Dynamics, Qikai Huang (Bruce Wingo)

Mathematical Sciences Technical Reports (MSTR)

Recently, Google, Amazon and others are attempting to develop delivery drones for commercial use, in particular Amazon Prime Air promising 30 minute delivery. One type of commonly used drone proposed for such purposes is a quadcopter. Quadcopters have been around for some time with original development in the 1920’s. They are popular now because they are mechanically simple and provide a good vehicle for unmanned flight. By controlling the speed of the four propellers, a quadcopter can roll, change pitch, change yaw, and accelerate. This research will focus on the study of classical mechanics theories on rigid body motion using …

Nonlinear Harmonic Modes Of Steel Strings On An Electric Guitar, Joel Wenrich May 2016

Nonlinear Harmonic Modes Of Steel Strings On An Electric Guitar, Joel Wenrich

Senior Theses

Steel strings used on electric and acoustic guitars are non-ideal oscillators that can produce imperfect intonation. According to theory, this intonation should be a function of the bending stiffness of the string, which is related to the dimensions of length and thickness of the string. To test this theory, solid steel strings of three different linear densities were analyzed using an oscilloscope and a Fast Fourier Transform function. We found that strings exhibited more drastic nonlinear harmonic behavior as their effective length was shortened and as linear density increased.
