Introduction

This scoping review was performed to collect, examine, and present literature on interventions promoting the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in U.S. primary health care settings.

Method

The literature searched was from 2011–2022, in the English language, in PubMed, CINAHL, Psych INFO, Cochrane, and Web of Science, for persons with autism or ASD aged ≤ 18 years.

Results

Intermittent claudication (IC) from peripheral arterial disease is typically managed with pharmacologic interventions and lifestyle changes. However, despite societal guidelines, initial endovascular interventions are being used more frequently with an increased incidence of complications, resulting in rapid disease progression to critical and acute limb-threatening ischemia (ALI). The present report describes the case of a patient who developed ALI after treatment of IC at another facility, with malpositioned bilateral common iliac stents, continuous stent extension into the popliteal artery, and acute occlusion of the entirety of the right lower extremity vasculature. Introduction: In low-resource settings, midwives are the first contact for women with preeclampsia and lead the coordination of care. Unfavourable preeclampsia outcomes create a burden for women, families, and the health system. It is therefore important to understand the unique context of midwives’ practice and the complex factors that influence the delivery of maternal healthcare. Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a type of breathing problem during sleep caused by the blockage of the upper airway, which can cause cessation of airflow. There is limited research on the prevalence of OSA in hypertensive patients in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The study aimed to describe the prevalence and clinical characteristics of OSA among hypertensive patients at a tertiary hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.

Nurse turnover is prevalent among new graduate nurses. Many new graduate nurses feel unsupported by their peers, lack self-confidence, or feel overburdened due to the workload assigned to them. New graduate nurses with support systems are more likely to stay with an organization. Background: Students’ academic self-efficacy is greatly associated with their academic performance. An effective instrument is needed to assess academic self-efficacy in the Saudi context. This study assessed the psychometric properties of the Academic Nurse Self-Efficacy Scale-Arabic version (ANSE-A) given to student nurses and the associations between the students’ demographics and overall ANSE-A scores.

On Sept. 3, 1973, a fire swept through the baghouse of the Bunker Hill mine in Idaho’s Silver Valley. The building was designed to filter pollutants produced by smelting, the melting of rocks that separates metal from its ore. The gases produced in this process carried poisons, including lead.

At the time, the prices of lead and silver were climbing toward all-time highs. Rather than wait for new filters and repairs, company officials kept the mine running. They increased production, bypassed the filtration steps and, for eleven months, dumped noxious gases directly into the surrounding area.

The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study was to examine the concept of the spiritual well-being of senior-level nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research was reinforced by Parse's (1992) human becoming theory which contains the construct of spirituality. Student nurses are “knowing beings" with a sense of purpose, constantly propelling themselves toward possibilities and freely choosing personal meaning in situations in an intersubjective process of relating value priorities. Falls and fall-related injuries impact patients' health outcomes and are the most commonly reported adverse event in hospitals for patients over 65 years of age. This scholarly project was conducted to evaluate the effect of evidence-based education to the Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistance in the medical and surgical oncology inpatient on reducing the number of patients falling. Retrospective reviews of patient fall rates, were conducted two months before the fall educational sessions, and prospective reviews were conducted after implementing fall education. The uses of cervical mucus and basal body temperature as indicators of return to fertility postpartum have resulted in high unintended pregnancy rates. Introduction: The Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) introduced additional stress to the baseline occupational stressors of emergency care workers. The objectives of this study were to evaluate perceived stress and burnout and the utilization and perceived benefit of wellness practices among emergency healthcare workers (EHCWs), including: emergency physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), nurses, and departmental administrative staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The legalization of marijuana in many U.S. states, despite its federal illegality, has resulted in an influx of positive marijuana drug screens across the healthcare sector.1 To better understand this problem, CRNAs in the Illinois Association of Nurse Anesthetists (IANA) were surveyed regarding their perceived knowledge of their organization’s policies regarding cannabis use using an online survey. The survey had a response rate of approximately 8.2% (n=148) and a majority (70%) of CRNAs disagreed or were neutral when asked if their organization’s policies were well-communicated regarding cannabis use. Fiberoptic intubation has been used as a secondary option to intubate pediatric patients with difficult airways. Failure to understand how to properly use a fiberoptic scope could have severe consequences, such as increased trauma or mortality. Failure to follow the seven requirements of the Tax Equality and Fiscal Responsibility Act (TEFRA) when working in a medical direction model can place a CRNA at increased liability related to Medicare fraud. Purpose: This study aimed to determine whether the multimodal implementation of visual aids in anesthesia drug drawers, dissemination of virtual reminders through email and scheduling software, and alteration of the barcode scanner location to a more convenient location will improve barcode medication administration (BCMA) compliance.

Design: This study was a time series design study utilizing a retrospective chart review.

Pre-procedural ultrasound is an emerging technique among anesthesia providers to increase procedural efficiency and safety of neuraxial procedures on patients with increased technical difficulty. The use of pre-procedural ultrasound in neuraxial anesthesia among certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) and student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs) has not been previously described. Purpose: Dural punctures can cause debilitating headaches known as post-dural puncture headaches (PDPHs). The sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) block can be used to treat PDPHs. Background: Simulation-based education is a learning modality utilized in healthcare curriculum among nurse anesthesia trainees (NATs) for crisis management training. Regional anesthesia has played a significant role in the reduction of perioperative opioid consumption while still providing high-quality analgesia, making it a fundamental practice in outpatient orthopedic surgery. The purpose of this study was to qualitatively examine the experiences and perspectives of CRNAs surrounding the utilization of regional anesthesia in outpatient orthopedic surgery. A qualitative study design using semistructured interviews was conducted (N =14).
