Nurse-Led Education For Postpartum Depression In Primiparous Asian-American Mothers, Colleen Peralta
Nurse-Led Education For Postpartum Depression In Primiparous Asian-American Mothers, Colleen Peralta
Nursing | Student Research Posters
The postpartum period is a critical point when women remain a vulnerable in the hospital setting. This stems from various physical, emotional and psychological changes that women face after childbirth, when patient support and attention is vital. For instance, the postpartum stage poses risk to women for complications, such as postpartum depression (PPD). When left untreated and misdiagnosed, PPD can lead to adverse maternal outcomes, such as: problems with mother-infant bonding, difficulty breastfeeding, and an increased risk for suicide (Mayo Clinic, 2022).
Asian-American mothers with postpartum depression face unique challenges, including the stigma surrounding mental health, which remains prevalent within …

Implementing A Fall Screen And Prevention Program In The Primary Care Setting: A Quality Improvement Project, Manpreet Singh
DNP Projects
Significance and Background: Falls are a major health concern in the inpatient and outpatient clinical setting. They are costly for our healthcare system and lead to a sequela of challenges for patients, families and society. These challenges include fear of falling, injury, reduced quality of life, disability and death. Within the primary care setting, a fall risk assessment is required as part of the Welcome to Medicare examination. Primary care providers are reimbursed through the Medical Annual Wellness Visit. The goal of this quality improvement project was to implement a fall risk screening and intervention too for primary care patients …

Application Of The Social Determinants Of Health To Geriatric Patients By Nurse Practitioner Students, Theresa Marie Gruenke Schnable
Dissertations (1934 -)
ABSTRACT APPLICATION OF THE SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH TO GERIATRIC PATIENTS BY NURSE PRACTITIONER STUDENTS Patient outcomes are influenced by the social determinants of health (SDOH), which influence differing exposures to opportunities or health risks. Holistic care of geriatric patients includes considering SDOH in patient assessment, diagnosis, and care delivery. Understanding how NP students care for geriatric patients using a SDOH lens provides insight into their practice behaviors and helps educators understand how to strengthen NP programs to achieve better patient outcomes and advance health equity for the geriatric population. The purpose of this study was to describe how NP …

Diabetes-related complications are significant in the diabetic patient population in the United States. Appropriate measures must be implemented to ensure that diabetic foot disease is prevented. One suggested approach to stopping the progression of complications is to ensure comprehensive diabetic foot exams and foot care education are performed and documented by providers, as recommended by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) annually. Diabetes poses a public health challenge requiring the implementation of evidence-based guidelines in primary care. This quality improvement project aimed to implement a comprehensive diabetic foot care protocol to impact providers' documentation and performance of foot exams in diabetic …
Simultaneous Family Planning Counseling During Visits For Chronic Conditions That Increase Preeclampsia Risk, Jessica Cotton
Simultaneous Family Planning Counseling During Visits For Chronic Conditions That Increase Preeclampsia Risk, Jessica Cotton
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Treatment plans are incomplete until providers address a condition’s impact on a potential pregnancy. Primary care providers (PCPs) routinely treat hypertension (HTN), diabetes (DM), chronic kidney disease (CKD), lupus (LP), and antiphospholipid syndrome (APL), which all increase preeclampsia in pregnancy. PCPs may be more prone to overlook pregnancy potential in the context of diseases than those specializing in obstetrics. This quality improvement (QI) project aimed to see if this was true in a small nurse practitioner-owned and run family practice clinic in Oklahoma. A 2022 retrospective chart review for non-pregnant reproductive-age adult females confirmed that no ICD-10 codes for HTN, …

Investigating Nurses Lived Experiences Toward Family Presence During Resuscitation To Enhance The Future Of Nursing Curriculum, Laurie Stone
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Death is inevitable, but dying alone can be an agonizing prospect for patients and their families. Family presence during resuscitation (FPDR) is a controversial but evidence-based concept that helps relieve some of the fear and anxiety for the family. Sadly, loved ones are often not allowed to be with the patient during resuscitation. FPDR importance is typically taught within the healthcare setting but still lacks implementation. By starting education while healthcare students are in a higher learning setting, this concept has a higher probability of success. To fill the gap concerning FPDR, this researcher interviewed nurses who have witnessed FPDR. …
