Introduction: When medically indicated, caesarean section (CS) can be a life-saving intervention for mothers and their newborns. This study assesses the prevalence of CS and its associated factors, focussing on inequalities between rural and urban areas in Nigeria. Methods: We disaggregated the Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey 2018 and performed analyses separately for Nigeria’s overall, rural, and urban residences. We summarised data using frequency tabulations and identified factors associated with CS through multivariable logistic regression analysis. Results: CS prevalence was 2.7% in Nigeria (overall), 5.2% in urban and 1.2% in rural areas. The North-West region had the lowest prevalence of …

Maternal adiposity (overweight or obesity) has been associated with adverse perinatal outcomes, although the potential risks of long-term neuropsychiatric and behavioral outcomes in the offspring remain unclear. Using the PRISMA guidelines, we searched PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and Web of Science to identify studies on maternal adiposity and offspring neuropsychiatric outcomes. Inverse variance-weighted random-effects meta-analyses were used to pool effect estimates with 95 % confidence intervals (95 % CIs) from adjusted odds ratios (OR) and hazard ratios (HR). Background: Nursing students attending clinical placement encounter similar exposure to aggression and violence as qualified clinicians. Universities encounter barriers in aggression and violence management education delivery due to resourcing and time requirements. Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR) education may reduce barriers while maintaining comparable learning outcomes to face-to-face simulation-based education. Method: Nursing students (n = 72), recruited from one public university in Perth, Western Australia, completed a 15-20 minute IVR education program. Pre-, post-, and 4-month post-intervention questionnaires investigated self-reported confidence. Cross-sectional data were collected for system usability and motion sickness. Results: Significant differences in self-reported confidence were observed (p < .001, partial η2 = 0.53), with large improvements from pre- to post-intervention (p < .001, d = 1.21) and follow-up (p < .001, d = 1.25). Cross-sectional data indicated the program is easy to use and incurs negligible motion sickness. Conclusion: IVR can deliver effective aggression and violence education for nursing students. The short duration, high usability, and persistence of confidence improvements over time indicate potential for IVR to support current nursing education practices.

Atrial fibrillation is considered the most common arrythmia affecting individuals globally with an estimated occurrence of 12.1 million individuals by 2030 in the US alone (Joglar et al., 2023). Recent evidence suggests lifestyle modification in combination with pharmacological therapy may decrease the overall financial and health burdens associated with atrial fibrillation (Elliot et al., 2023). The aim of this scoping review is to examine the existing literature to evaluate prescription only versus prescription and lifestyle modifications and its effect of reducing negative health outcomes and overall burden of atrial fibrillation diagnoses.
