A Description Of Impostor Phenomenon In Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologists, Jeffrey R. Darna
A Description Of Impostor Phenomenon In Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologists, Jeffrey R. Darna
Dissertations
Background: Imposter Phenomenon (IP) is an evolving, multidimensional construct defined as self-perceived intellectual phoniness and professional ineptitude frequently experienced by individuals working in high performance or competitive environments. IP consequences include psychological distress, role under-optimization, and professional paralysis. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologists (CRNAs) are at risk for impostorism; however, IP presence, intensity, and career effects are unknown.
Purpose: The study measured IP in CRNAs and determined the relationship between IP and select sociodemographic and practice variables.
Methods:
Design: A descriptive, cross-sectional correlation design measured IP using an Internet-based survey from a random sample of 170 members of the American …
Remifentanil Patient Controlled Analgesia Use In Laboring Women: A Feasibility And Acceptability Study, Joshua Carr
Remifentanil Patient Controlled Analgesia Use In Laboring Women: A Feasibility And Acceptability Study, Joshua Carr
Dissertations
Background/Purpose: Interest in remifentanil patient controlled analgesia (RPCA) as a treatment for labor pain has increased due to its unique pharmacodynamics and effectiveness on pain control among parturients. Despite its promise, RPCA remains infrequently used in the US. The purpose of this study was to 1) examine the implementation and acceptability of a new RPCA protocol in the labor and delivery ward of a mid-sized hospital, and 2) identify the attitudes and beliefs of healthcare workers in a real-world clinical setting.
Theoretical/Conceptual Framework: The holistic nature of Comfort Theory can account for the proposed mechanisms contributing to the …
Transitions In Palliative Care: Referral Time And Healthcare Utilization In Advanced Stage Colon, Rectal And Lung Cancer Patients., Ann Lawani
Dissertations
Background: Despite lung, colon, and rectal cancer being the leading and third leading cause of cancer-related death among both men and women respectively, few studies have examined Palliative Care Consultation (PCC) on healthcare utilization (HCU) in individuals with advanced stage diagnosis in this disease cohort. Extant research shows advanced stage cancer patients receive aggressive treatments, within the last 30 days of life. Palliative care is linked to less aggressive cancer treatment, and palliative interventions applied early, at diagnosis of advanced cancer, is more favorable for improving symptom and disease management. Patients and family members with early PCC are better informed …
Implementing Nurse Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Specialists To Maintain A Sustainable Program, David L. Boyd
Implementing Nurse Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Specialists To Maintain A Sustainable Program, David L. Boyd
DNP Qualifying Manuscripts
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) offers hope for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome when other treatment methods fail. However, ECMO requires continuous hourly management leading to extremely high operating costs. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the high number of patients on ECMO led to a significant increase in the costs when using perfusionists to manage ECMO. Switching to a nurse-driven model resulted in a 52% decrease in costs related to the hourly management. Changing to a nurse-driven program provided increased nursing support and sustainability, and with determination and support, other ECMO centers can change to nurse-driven programs too.

Econsent Forms On Ancillary Applications With Electronic Medical Record Integration – Reducing Consent Error, Lilian Chan
Econsent Forms On Ancillary Applications With Electronic Medical Record Integration – Reducing Consent Error, Lilian Chan
Doctor of Nursing Practice Final Manuscripts
Purpose of Project: The purpose of this project is to utilize electronic consents (eConsents) with ancillary applications as an evidence-based intervention to reduce consent errors.
Background: Studies show that paper-based handwritten forms have an error rate of up to 50%. Consent errors, especially in the preparation of surgery, are not merely documentation errors but patient safety pitfalls that allow for incorrect surgeries or financial loss due to aborted or delayed interventional cases. Internal organizational evidence indicates the implementation of an evidence-based opportunity as there was no use of electronic tools for consents utilized in the inpatient setting.
Methods: Inpatient departments …

Impact Of Hospital Characteristics And Governance Structure On The Adoption Of Tracking Technologies For Clinical And Supply Chain Use: Longitudinal Study Of Us Hospitals, Xiao Zhu, Youyou Tao, Ruilin Zhu, Dezhi Wu, Wai-Kit Ming
Publications
BACKGROUND: Despite the increasing adoption rate of tracking technologies in hospitals in the United States, few empirical studies have examined the factors involved in such adoption within different use contexts (eg, clinical and supply chain use contexts). To date, no study has systematically examined how governance structures impact technology adoption in different use contexts in hospitals. Given that the hospital governance structure fundamentally governs health care workflows and operations, understanding its critical role provides a solid foundation from which to explore factors involved in the adoption of tracking technologies in hospitals. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to compare critical factors associated …

A Qualitative Study On Nurse Facilitators Of Mind-Body Skills Groups, Paula D. Blake-Beckford
A Qualitative Study On Nurse Facilitators Of Mind-Body Skills Groups, Paula D. Blake-Beckford
Mindfulness Studies Theses
The Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM), founded by Dr. James Gordon, provides communities with evidence-based Mind-Body Skills Groups (MBSGs) that foster self-care, self-awareness, and self-expression. MBSGs range from 8 to 12-week series on various mind-body practices wherein group members meet, practice, and reflect on the impact of mind-body skills in their lives. Research has demonstrated that participants in MBSGs have positive outcomes. Healthcare professionals (HCPs), especially nurses, gain resiliency from MBSGs. As facilitators of MBSGs, nurses develop essential skills transferable to clinical and educational settings. MBSGs are therapeutic for adult participants with chronic stress. Prior to this thesis, only one …
Early Integration Of Palliative Care With Curative Oncology Treatment For Patients With Advanced Cancer: Implications For Clinical Nursing Practice, Rhea Rughani
Honors Projects
Palliative care, though clinically established to improve health-related quality of life measures for patients with advanced illness, remains underutilized and largely limited to end of life care. This project aims to inform oncology nursing practice through the analysis of literature supporting the early integration of palliative care with standard curative oncology treatment for patients with clinically advanced cancer. Informed by relevant research, clinical practice guidelines, and improved specialty palliative care training, oncology nurses and nurse practitioners are ideally situated to advocate for and initiate early palliative care integration, to holistically improve the standard approach to complex cancer care.

Improving Quality Of Communication In Pediatric Perioperative Outpatient Setting Using Aidet And Commit To Sit, Hyo Ryung Kim
Master's Projects and Capstones
Abstract
Problem: Effective and therapeutic communication in the health care setting is multidisciplinary,
complex, and has unique challenges for each microsystem. The perioperative setting is an
especially challenging environment for healthcare workers to provide therapeutic
communication, as uniquely high-risk and time-sensitive information must be disseminated in a
language that is understandable for the patient(Osborne-Smith & Kyle Hodgen, 2017). A
microsystem assessment of an outpatient pediatric perioperative setting reflected some of the
challenges the healthcare workers were facing when communicating with their patients and
family members. Upon evaluation of the monthly NRC (National Research Corporation) score
prior to implementation of two …
