Introduction: This paper explores the potential therapeutic benefits of medical Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on glaucoma management, particularly in terms of intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction, ocular blood flow, and symptom management. Glaucoma, characterized by increased IOP and progressive optic nerve damage, is a leading cause of irreversible blindness. Current treatments focus on IOP control but may have inadequate efficacy or intolerable side effects, necessitating alternative approaches such as medical THC.

Methods: The study hypothesis posited that medical THC could significantly reduce IOP, enhance ocular blood flow, and improve symptom management in glaucoma patients. To test this hypothesis, a literature review supplemented by …

Deep learning and machine learning algorithms have been used to assist physicians in detecting features that are not noticeable to the human eye. The FDA has approved almost 400 AI algorithms for radiology and estimated that the market for AI in medical imaging would grow from $21.48 billion in 2018 to $264.85 billion in 2028.

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia in older adults, but most people are not diagnosed until significant neuronal loss has likely occurred along with a decline in cognition. Non-invasive and cost-effective digital biomarkers for AD have the potential to improve early detection.

OBJECTIVE: We examined the validity of DCTclockTM (a digitized clock drawing task) as an AD susceptibility biomarker.

DESIGN: We used two primary independent variables, Apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 allele carrier status and polygenic risk score (PRS). We examined APOE and PRS associations with DCTclockTM composite scores as dependent measures.

INTRODUCTION: Over the past 40 years, surgical treatment for humeral shaft fractures has become more common. The purpose of the study was to evaluate complication rates seen with different treatments for humeral shaft fractures. Nerve injury (NI), infection, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and nonunion (NU) were the specific complications investigated. METHODS: A retrospective database review was performed looking at all patients with humeral shaft fractures. Data was analyzed for complication rates for non-surgical (NS) treatment, open reduction internal fixation (ORIF), and intramedullary nailing (IMN). Pyomyositis is a rare disease that is often misdiagnosed. Formerly more common in tropic areas, it has been more prevalent in temperate climates in the past couple of decades. Most cases of pyomyositis have a known cause or the patient is immunocompromised, but there are a few documented cases of spontaneous pyomyositis in an otherwise healthy patient. Our case describes a 35-year-old male with no past medical history or history of IV drug use who presented to the emergency department with right sided chest pain. Introduction: Mycobacterial infections are an atypical organism for pulmonary infections. These infections are classically separated in tuberculous (MTB) and nontuberculous (NTM) groups due to their differing pathogenicity and microbiologic therapy regimens. MTB is typically treated with a 4-drug therapy known as RIPE (rifampin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol) however NTM is typically treated with 3- or 4-drug therapy with a backbone of rifampin, macrolide, and ethambutol. Due to the long courses of therapy required for NTM, stringent diagnostic criteria of clinical, radiologic, and microbiologic findings are required. Cesarean Scar Pregnancy results from pathologic implantation of a gestational sac into a hysterotomy scar. This rare disease continues to increase in incidence due to the rise of Cesarean delivery in the United States. Current management recommendations by the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine (SMFM) include termination of pregnancy, or in rare instances, hysterectomy. NASA's decision to resume manned deep space mission, first to the Moon and then Mars, necessitated a detailed assessment of the potential health effects that astronauts may experience on long-duration missions. Multiple studies suggest that there may be significant space radiation (SR)-induced impairment of neurocognitive processes, including advanced executive functions. However, given the multitude of SR-induced changes in the CNS, it is possible that completely different SR-induced sequelae will be induced in previously exposed individuals. There are several factors preventing discharges out of the hospital within 24 hours that ultimately affects metrics for both hospital systems and physicians. These factors include pending labs, imaging, or procedures; pending placement approval at a facility outside of the hospital upon discharge; notification of family and caretakers; secured funding for devices and medicines; and others. Peptide receptor radionucleotide therapy (PRRT) with 177Lu-dotatate is widely used for the treatment of patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). We analyzed data from 104 patients with NETs treated with 177Lu -dotatate at a US academic center between December 2017 and October 2020 to better understand patterns of long-term efficacy, safety, and toxicity in the real-world setting. 177Lu-dotatate (200 mCi) was administered every eight weeks for four doses. The most common sites of primary disease were small intestine NETs (n = 49, 47%), pancreatic NETs (n = 32, 31%), and lung NETs (n = 7, 7%). Twenty-seven percent had Ki-6720%. The …

This study aimed to assess the effects of whole-body vibration (WBV) on the brain through changes in blood protein concentrations, seat and head accelerations, and symptomatology over time. Subjects were assigned to control, 1-hour, or 8-hour vibration exposure groups. Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and S100B concentrations were measured. Root mean square average weighted vibration (A_ws), vibration dose value (VDV), and seat-to-head transmissibility (STHT) were calculated. The use of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia (UGRA) in anesthetic practice is an invaluable tool for anesthesia providers to implement into their daily practice. One of these regional techniques is the erector spinae plane block (ESPB) which has anesthetic implications in numerous surgical procedures including cervical spine, thoracolumbar spine, thoracic wall, and chest wall procedures. Because of the novelty of this regional anesthetic technique, it is important to educate first-year anesthesia providers about the implications, skillset, and complications of the ESPB.
