Objectives: This paper demonstrates International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) training procedures and inter/intra-examiner reliability for lesion severity, activity, and filling criteria in an elementary school setting.

Methods: ICDAS training was conducted in December 2021 prior to a school-based cluster-randomized controlled trial. A total of 59 children (6-8 years old) in grades 1-2 from one school in Houston, Texas were recruited. Two licensed dentists received a 5-day training from an ICDAS trainer at the participating school. Thirty-eight children were evaluated at least once by each dental trainee, and 18 had repeat examinations. The ICDAS criteria were used to classify …

Aged individuals and astronauts experience bone loss despite rigorous physical activity. Bone mechanoresponse is in-part regulated by mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that respond to mechanical stimuli. Direct delivery of low intensity vibration (LIV) recovers MSC proliferation in senescence and simulated microgravity models, indicating that age-related reductions in mechanical signal delivery within bone marrow may contribute to declining bone mechanoresponse. To answer this question, we developed a 3D bone marrow analog that controls trabecular geometry, marrow mechanics and external stimuli. The ADA and California Dental Association recommend offering higher salaries, flexible and lighter schedules, health insurance, paid holidays and vacations, retirement funds, paying for continuing education, better dental office culture and growth opportunities. Providing these benefits and adjusting your dental practice may very well lead to success in hiring, but could be detrimental to your business. Maybe it’s time we look far outside the box for solutions.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic central nervous system disease of inflammation and demyelination. Presentation can vary tremendously but, typically, involves neurologic deficits, including weakness, pain, numbness and motor dysfunction. MS can also affect the dentoalveolar region. We describe a patient with MS who clinically presented with “electric” and “shooting, pulling” pain in the left maxillary region. The pain subsided following a course of gabapentin, leading to the diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia secondary to MS. This report aims to review various common dentoalveolar manifestations of MS.

In anticipation of third molar surgery, patients may experience increased anxiety. Patients frequently access social media platforms and view content about surgical treatments.

Purpose

The study purpose was to measure the level of perioperative anxiety of patients scheduled for third molar surgery exposed to social media and identify factors associated with patient anxiety.

Study Design, Setting, Sample

This is a prospective cohort study of patients undergoing impacted mandibular third molar surgery from September 2021 to August 2022 at the outpatient clinic of Cukurova University School of Dentistry.

Objectives

There is scarce evidence on immediate soft tissue and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) following implant surgery. This prospective study aimed to quantify post-implant placement intraoral swelling and to correlate it with PROMs.

Materials and methods

Twenty-six patients undergoing standardized single implant placement (two-stage protocol) were recruited. Soft tissue swelling was recorded by intraoral scans immediately pre-surgery (PS) and post-operatively (IP), and at 2 (2d), 7 (7d) and 14 days (14d) and 2 months (2 m). Background: Condylar hyperplasia (CH) leads to mandibular overgrowth with anatomical, aesthetic, and functional consequences, particularly affecting facial harmony. It is characterized by severe mandibular prognathism (MP) in bilateral cases. This study aims to propose a therapeutic algorithm for diagnosing and treating bilateral condylar hyperplasia (BCH) based on demographic, clinical, craniofacial growth, and clivus ratio uptake conditions. Objective: To investigate the tissue dissolution efficacy of different concentrations of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) using the GentleWave® technology (GW) and compare it with that of passive ultrasonic irrigation. This study will provide a novel in vitro model used to evaluate the tissue dissolution efficacy of different concentrations of NaOCl using the GentleWave® procedure.

Dysbiosis, or microbial imbalance, disrupts these ecosystems, leading to inflammatory conditions.
