An Investigation Of Reciprocal Reporting Agreements Between School Districts And Local Law Enforcement Agencies, Mark E. Doan

The purpose of this study was to determine the existing status of reciprocal reporting agreement guidelines between high schools and local law enforcement agencies in East Central Illinois. Principals of all high schools and local law enforcement officials in a 13 county area were surveyed, and responses were tabulated.

In the surveyed area, 54% of the districts did not have reciprocal reporting agreements with law enforcement offices. Local Parent-Teacher Advisory Committees had very little or no input (52%) in the development of these guidelines. This study was conducted to investigate the practice of grade retention in Illinois public schools with a combined 7th and 8th grade enrollment of at least 100 students and a district student population of less than 1700 students. A sample population of schools was obtained by dividing Illinois into three geographic areas and randomly selecting 30 schools from each area. The northern area consisted of schools north of Interstate 80. The central area consisted of schools between Interstate 80 and Interstate 70. The southern area consisted of schools south of Interstate 70.

The courts and constitutional law have had a significant impact on public schools and public school administrators. The purpose of this study was to examine administrative perceptions of particular school law issues and concerns. Via a questionnaire, administrators from west central Illinois overwhelmingly stated that school law information was necessary for effective performance in their jobs. They also named the superintendent as the school official who needs to have the highest level of school law knowledge.

The problem of this study was to identify the factors that influenced the decision of admitted first-time freshmen applicants to matriculate or not to matriculate at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in the fall semester of 1995. Participants were randomly selected from 793 first-time applicants. The population consisted of 529 matriculants and 264 nonmatriculants; ultimately, 52 matriculants and 26 nonmatriculants were surveyed via telephone interviews. The chi square was applied to the data. Over 50% of the nonmatriculant sample indicated that the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff was their first choice. The purpose of this study was to determine the role and support afforded Computing Coordinators at Western Australian government senior high schools by undertaking a census survey. Previous studies performed by Weber and Kershaw (1990) and Kershaw and Weber {1991), portrayed the role of Computing Coordinators at Australian high schools as demanding a diversity of knowledge and skills in computer technology together with excellent management qualities. The literature also suggested that time management skills were a major factor in how effectively coordinators carried out the myriad of tasks expected of them. This study examined the influence of a structured curricular intervention on the personal and social identity development of college students. The authors implemented a pretest/posttest design using the revised version of the Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status-2 (EOMEIS-2). Significant posttest results supported faculty’s role in developing students’ capabilities beyond the intellectual domain. Finally, the authors discuss collaboration between academic faculty and student affairs practitioners in contributing toward students’ identity development.

This article attempts to demonstrate how cognitive assessment may be used to empower both faculty and students by offering pedagogical and administrative strategies that enhance student learning in the U.S. The faculty limited its cognitive test, the Pre-Communication Assessment Measure to the four competencies--critical thinking, interpersonal, decision-making and theoretical competencies--common to two of five required courses. The components of the cognitive test are: critical thinking competence, interpersonal competence, decision-making competence and theoretical competence.

This article explains the problems associated with ways cheating situations are handled in colleges and universities. Two specific types of knowledge are needed by faculty members: one, what cheating is, and, two, the university's policy. The potential for problems revolves around the University's Academic Misconduct Code: first, many faculty are not aware of their university's code and second, many faculty do not follow the codes. Administrators are also involved in a number of other decisions that could impact student cheating behaviors. From the results of this and the previous study, it appears that the skills most valued in the contemporary job-entry market are communication skills.
