Restoration Vs. New Construction: How To Make The Right Decision, Timothy J. Ilg, David Alan Dolph
Restoration Vs. New Construction: How To Make The Right Decision, Timothy J. Ilg, David Alan Dolph
Educational Leadership Faculty Publications
Restoration or new construction? That is a dilemma that educational leaders, particularly superintendents and school business officials, have had to wrestle with for years. In the past, state regulations often dictated whether school buildings should be renovated or torn down to make way for new construction. State reimbursement guidelines favored new construction over restoration for public school development by either withholding funds or denying the full state support for restoration projects. In fact, some states established complex formulas that mandated new construction if the cost of restoration exceeded approximately two-thirds of the new construction costs.
Reversing the mindset among many …
First Things First: Writing Strategies -- The Front End And The Back End, Marilyn L. Grady
First Things First: Writing Strategies -- The Front End And The Back End, Marilyn L. Grady
Journal of Women in Educational Leadership
A constant factor in writing is that the "front end" of a manuscript always receives the most tender loving care. Perhaps this is because it is the first born child of the paper. You spend more time with the "front end" because it comes first and is older than the "back end." The front end is read and reread. The front end may reflect the first burst of passion of your writing. The front end may be given more thought over time. The back end, however, may suffer from the common flaw of the writer who just quits. Once the …

Problem-Based Versus Conventional Curricula: Influence On Knowledge And Attitudes Of Medical Students Towards Health Research, Hassan Khan, Ather M. Taqui, Muhammad Rizwanulhaq Khawaja, Zafar Fatmi
Community Health Sciences
Background
Medical education curricula in developing countries should emphasize training in health research. This study compares the knowledge and attitudes towards health research between undergraduate medical students undertaking Problem Based Learning (PBL) versus conventional Lecture Based Learning (LBL).
Methods
Two groups comprising 66 (LBL) and 84 (PBL) 4th and 5th year students from the medical college of Aga Khan University were administered a structured and validated questionnaire. Knowledge and attitudes of the two groups were recorded on a scale (graduated in percentages) and compared for statistical difference.
Results
PBL students scored 54.0% while LBL students scored 55.5% on the knowledge …
Articulation Trends In Allied Health Programs, Felicia M. Toreno
Articulation Trends In Allied Health Programs, Felicia M. Toreno
Theses and Dissertations in Urban Studies
The educational environment emphasizes student access to instructional opportunities. Many health programs are located in community colleges or hospitals, and in order to advance educational status, students must be able to transfer credits between multiple educational institutions. Unfortunately, programs are not uniform and many fields of study are guided by strict accreditation regulations. These conflicting requirements often make transfer for students cumbersome. Transfer pathways are often considered by institutions on a program by program basis. This research was designed to analyze the existing pathways present in urban Virginian allied health programs in order to establish trends in articulation. These instructional …

A Study Of Student Involvement At Rowan University, Joseph P. Lizza
Theses and Dissertations
This study was designed to determine the reasons why students get involved in student organizations, the benefits perceived by being involved, and the impact of the "highly involved" student. Seventy-five undergraduate students from Rowan University participated in the study by completing a survey that asked about involvement in a Student Government (SGA) chartered organization, Greek Life, and Varsity Athletics and the perceived learning outcomes associated with involvement. A follow-up interview was conducted with four students who completed the survey in order to more fully answer the question of what motivated and characterized the highly involved student. Christian School Administration: Exercising Biblical Competence: A Consecrated Heart And An Educated Mind, Julia Curruth Mcmillan
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
There is minimal research conducted to assist Professional Educators with effective ministering and administration in Christian Schools. While secular academic training and experience provide the Administrator with great preparation, there are specific dynamics unique to the Christian school environment that warrant deliberate attention if the Administrator is to be effective. Observed from the perspective of a parent, having served faithfully as both teacher and the current Principal of the Bible-Based Fellowship Christian Academy; in its young life, this nine-year old school had experienced eight different administrators, most recently in January 2005. Inconsistency in leadership had stunted the growth of the …

Playing It Safe In Secondary School Athletic Programs, David Alan Dolph
Educational Leadership Faculty Publications
School business officials play a critical role in ensuring that district assets are protected and that students and staff have a safe environment in which to learn and work. In their role as risk managers, school business officials work closely with the board of education and fellow administrators to identify and track potential risks, develop plans to mitigate those risks, and perform regular risk assessments to determine how risks have changed.
Some risks are inherent in all school systems. For example, students on the playground, buses on the roads, chemicals in the science labs, even food in the cafeteria pose …
