Perceived Persistence Factors For African American Students At A Predominantly White Institution, Aaron D. White
Masters Theses
The purpose of this qualitative study was to determine what resources, persistence factors, and motivational factors influenced African American students matriculation at a PWI located in the Midwest. The participants in this study were six African American seniors or recent graduates of a mid-sized, four-year university in the rural Midwest. Motivation, persistence, and resources are each connected to one another and as students identified factors in each area it was evident that together they all influence the overall success, which is completing their undergraduate degree, in significant ways. The results of this study provided a personal look into areas which …

Youth Development And Education In Pakistan : Exploring The Relationship, Dilshad Ashraf, Takbir Ali, Anya Hosain
Youth Development And Education In Pakistan : Exploring The Relationship, Dilshad Ashraf, Takbir Ali, Anya Hosain
Institute for Educational Development, Karachi
This paper provides a critical examination of the inter-linkages between youth education, development, empowerment, and engagement in Pakistan. Currently, the majority of the population falls within the youth age bracket of 15-24 years. The country stands at a critical juncture, where it can capitalize on this demographic dividend for transformational and sustainable socioeconomic growth. However, this paper argues that there is inadequate intersection and convergence between Pakistan’s national and provincial Education and Youth policy frameworks. An indepth overview of current trends in terms of quality of education and access to and participation in various forms of education programmes indicates that …

School business officials (SBOs) must, in many respects, serve as all things to all people in their workplaces. Put another way, SBOs must be knowledgeable about a wide range of legal issues ranging from contracts to setting policy to state biding laws let alone constitutional matters involving the rights of students and teachers. Aware of the fact that issues involving the law are at the heart of many of a SBO’s duties, the chapters in this edited book have been written by a diverse array of individuals with experience as educational leaders in schools and/ or who possess significant expertise …

Champion Or Chump: Using A Book-Length Case Study To Evaluate A Mythical Principal, Nicholas J. Pace, Timothy W. Gilson
Champion Or Chump: Using A Book-Length Case Study To Evaluate A Mythical Principal, Nicholas J. Pace, Timothy W. Gilson
Department of Educational Administration: Faculty Publications
This study examined how 130 participants enrolled in the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) principalship program completed a standards-based evaluation after reading a book-length case study of a mythical principal. Application of the Iowa Standards for School Leaders (ISSL), which mirror the Interstate School Leadership Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) and Educational Leadership Constituency Council (ELCC) standards reveal widespread agreement on the principal's performance related to vision, instruction, management, collaboration and politics. However, participants were distinctly split as to the mythical principal's ethics. The authors discuss potential responses to literature that identify many programs as weak and inadequate by providing more authentic …

Fraud Prevention And Employee Rationalization In New York State Public Schools, Kathleen M. Slezak
Fraud Prevention And Employee Rationalization In New York State Public Schools, Kathleen M. Slezak
Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
Prompted by frequent media reports of school fraud and a lack of relevant K-12 literature, this research study was designed to investigate current fraud prevention practices in public school districts in New York State. Using a "fraud triangle" model, an analysis of existing legislation and professional practice guidelines reveals that an integral element is being overlooked in current fraud prevention efforts, namely employee attitudes (more formally rationalization).

Program Innovation In Higher Education : An Exploratory Study Of The Creation Of New Degree Programs In Chilean Universities, Gonzalo Zapata
Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
Many researchers have studied differentiation in higher education systems, considering the multiplicity of new programs as one of its relevant features. In Chile, as well as in Latin America, there is ample literature on emerging higher education institutions and their growing differentiation, but very little or almost none devoted to emerging programs and the program dimension of differentiation.
Student Affairs As Formal Educators : When Rhetoric Meets Reality, Annie J. Virkus
Student Affairs As Formal Educators : When Rhetoric Meets Reality, Annie J. Virkus
Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
The Student Affairs literature contains numerous approaches and strategies for bridging the gap between Student and Academic Affairs on college campuses. The use of student affairs professionals as instructors of credit-bearing courses is one example of such collaborative efforts. The student affairs literature identifies student affairs professionals as educators. While most college campuses use student affairs to teach courses, few student affairs professionals teach credit-bearing courses. As a phenomenological study, this research examines the culture, structure and politics of Departments of Student Affairs as seen through the experiences of Chief Student Affairs Officers. An electronic survey was administered and determined …
