Food Tourism In Cork’S English Market - An Authentic Visitor Experience, Lisa O'Riordan, Prof. Margaret Linehan, Aisling Ward
Irish Business Journal
Authenticity is deemed to be a crucial element in many tourism experiences. Tourism, however, is often accused of succumbing to notions of perceived authenticity to ensure commercial success, leading to misrepresentations of cultures. Food tourism, conversely, is advocated as a means of encountering genuine culture, history and lifestyle. This paper investigates the role of food tourism as an authentic representation of culture in Cork’s English Market. In-depth interviews were conducted with market traders and analysed through the grounded theory method. Results indicate that, allowing for natural evolution, food tourism is providing a platform for the continuation, sharing and development of …

Waterparks' Impact On Rural Communities In Eastern Kentucky, Stephen M. Sims
Waterparks' Impact On Rural Communities In Eastern Kentucky, Stephen M. Sims
Online Theses and Dissertations
As many rural communities are searching for ways to increase their local economy, several of these communities have begun to turn their attention to the tourism industry. By turning their attention to the tourism industry, they are searching for ways to increase tourism in hopes of bringing in additional revenue that is needed for revitalizing many of these communities. These rural communities are "focused on maximizing individual spending, and providing products and experiences as an incentive to tourists to stay longer and return on repeat visits" (Briedenhann & Wickens, 2004, p. 72). Also, waterparks, as well as amusement parks and …

Beer Tourism: Identifying Kentucky Brewery Visitors And Motivations, Kenneth Joseph Berend, Jr.
Online Theses and Dissertations
Craft beer has gained popularity and evolved into an immense industry in recent years. The number of breweries in the United States has increased from 1,460 in 2006 to over 5,300 in 2016 ("Number of breweries and brewpubs in U.S.," n.d.). There are more breweries now than at any other time in U.S. history. The influx of breweries has contributed to increased participation in craft beer consumption and beer tourism. Plummer, Telfer, Hashimoto, and Summers (2005) define beer tourism as "visitation to breweries, beer festivals and beer shows for which beer tasting and experiencing the attributes of a beer region …

John and Sally McKennas' Guides ALL THE BEST PLACES TO EAT, SHOP AND STAY IN IRELAND. A LOCAL GUIDE TO LOCAL PLACES. Paul Williams is moving his restaurant, Canteen, around the corner from its original home on Mallow Street, in Limerick city. Many of us will miss the little shoebox space in which Mr Williams first weaved his magic, for the disconnect between the fantastic food, served in a box on a plastic tray, and the bedsit-land chic of the wee room, was one of the most fun experiences in Irish food. Some 25 years ago, long before Temple Bar was a glint in any property developer’s eye, Carol Walsh signed herself a lease in a tall, narrow building on a cobbled street just off the River Liffey, surrounded by artists' studios, record stores and comic shops. She kitted out the first floor with walls of mirrors and opened a dance and aerobics studio. Downstairs, she opened a vegetarian café called The Cellary. Later, in Dublin's clubbing heyday, Carol ran several underground clubnights in this ever-adaptable space. While her neighbouring building was being transformed into what is now Temple Bar Gallery, Carol …

Successful restaurants are as much a result of time, place and product as anything else. In many ways we had a lot stacked against us – we’re located in a basement, deep in the Northside of the city. But we had plenty in our favour too. We’ve worked hard to make our basement feel anything but that. By using Irish and international craftspeople we’ve transformed part of what was the former home of George Jameson, the whiskey maker, into a uniquely Irish dining space.
