Entrepreneurial resourcefulness is an overarching concept in the entrepreneurial process that has gained momentum among theorists and practitioners. Traditionally, entrepreneurial resourcefulness is theorized as a state—a behavior or trait—rather than a process. However, our understanding of this concept changes significantly when viewed through the lens of the lived experiences of forcibly displaced individuals. This dissertation presents a theoretical and empirical investigation of how these entrepreneurs pursue entrepreneurial resourcefulness through three interrelated essays. Social entrepreneurship and sustainable development are closely related concepts. Social entrepreneurship applies entrepreneurial attributes with a focus on solving major social issues. The relationship between the two demonstrates the contribution of social entrepreneurship in addressing social and environmental problems, reducing poverty, and fostering sustainable economic growth. This research employs a bibliometric approach to analyze trends and patterns in 181 relevant articles published between 2015 and 2023. Findings indicate significant growth in research between 2019 and 2021. Countries and institutions such as Spain, the United States, and Universitat de Valencia stand out in these publications. Puspa Rinengga Batik Studio, a small and medium-sized enterprise in Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, specializes in creating batik with jangkang motifs. Despite their unique craft, the studio struggled with marketing their products, resulting in an imbalance between production and sales. This dissertation examines the influence of organizational controls on technological capabilities in privately owned U.S. corporations, with a specific focus on family-owned businesses. The primary objective of the study was to investigate how formal controls (process and outcome) and clan controls (informal practices) impact technological innovation and competence. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 177 individuals and analyzed through partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) path analysis. The findings indicate a significant relationship between formal controls and technological capabilities. However, the interaction of family influence on this dynamic was not supported. Cyclical Interest In Entrepreneurship And The Virginia Economy, Daniel Farhat

This study uses keyword search data from Google to construct an index representing broad interest in entrepreneurship in Virginia. Dynamic correlations are evaluated to identify how short-term movements in the index relate to employment and earnings, leading economic indicators, home prices and business applications. Results support opportunity-driven mindsets in the labor market but not in the real estate market. The index is shown to have some economic prediction power, and is capable of producing new insights compared to data from actual business activity. Factors influencing career preferences of business students are explored. This study builds upon an original research project conducted in 1995, which focused on comparing pursuits of entrepreneurship versus more traditional business employment as career paths for business students. In the present study, 40 students enrolled in the senior-level capstone business course and 26 students enrolled in the freshman-level introductory business course in an AACSB accredited business school were administered surveys to determine career preferences and the factors influencing those preferences. Research SummaryThis study contrasts traditional entry dynamics with platform owner entry into a complementor market and examines cross-platform complementor response to competition with the platform. Generalists experience low repositioning cost and are more likely to shift effort away, while specialists focus their effort on the focal platform. We examine Apple's “Files” app entry and find support for our hypotheses: generalists shift effort toward the competing platform, while specialists double down on the focal platform. Moreover, empirically comparing Apple's entry with that of other large firms, we find that only the platform owner elicits a strong complementor response. This article contributes …

In 1981, the largest snowmobile manufacturer, Arctic Enterprises, Inc., makers of Arctic Cat snowmobiles, declared bankruptcy and eventually ceased operations. This case tells the story of the rebirth of Arctic Cat snowmobiles when twelve former Arctic Enterprises founders, executives, and employees launched the startup Arctco Inc. in 1983. These twelve men relied heavily on the five principles of effectual entrepreneurship, which were first articulated 20 years after the failure of Arctic Enterprises. Entrepreneurship is often portrayed as a glamorous pursuit of success but conceals a darker side, exacerbated by impostorism, characterized by challenges, identity conflicts, and diminished well-being. This "dark side" of entrepreneurship is seldom explored due to our collective fascination with the central figure of the entrepreneur. Impostorism is a prevalent phenomenon among individuals who perceive that their role is beyond their capabilities and fear being exposed as a "fake." This paper examines ten profiles of Egyptian women entrepreneurs and compares their perspectives to the widespread and main arguments in the existing literature reviewed on the topic; mainly their entrepreneurial motivation and challenges. The paper reveals similarities and contradictions, and introduces different angles to perceiving both aspects. The researcher concludes that contextualizing entrepreneurial motivations can, therefore, disclose deeper dimensions to the subject matter, and as for the challenges, it can change their relative importance.
