Introduction: Cupping therapy is a therapeutic modality that uses negative pressures to achieve therapeutic benefits. Various published studies report that cupping therapy decreases pain, increases range of motion, and improves blood flow. Previous studies also report an effect on tissue tenderness. However, there do not appear to be any studies assessing the effects of cupping therapy on touch pressure threshold, which measures skin sensitivity. Changes in touch pressure threshold may provide more information on the neurological effect cupping therapy has on treated tissues. Because not all disabilities look the same it is difficult to label a person with disabilities just by looking at them. Given that our knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions impact how we interpret our world and our willingness to act, people, including professors, may be biased toward providing accommodations for those with easily recognizable disabilities and biased against those with non-recognizable disabilities, and this may impact the disabled person’s ability to learn. The problem addressed in this research was the inappropriate treatment of multicultural individuals by their immediate supervisors and the need for a thorough examination of cultural humility in organizational settings. This quantitative study used linear regression and moderation analyses to examine the relationship between cultural humility and intention to leave moderated by authentic leadership to determine how the participants’ perception of cultural humility in their immediate supervisor predicted their intention to leave. This chapter investigates the origin narratives and commemoration practices that came hand in hand with the growing cultural authority of the algorithm after World War II, culminating in celebrations in honor of the 1,200th anniversary of the medieval scholar Abu MODIFIER LETTER LEFT HALF RINGAdallah Muhammad Ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi. I first show how al-Khwarizmi's legacy was claimed by Soviet historians of mathematics aiming to construct a history inspired by dialectical materialism, a goal that eventually led to arguments about the distinct, algorithmic character of mathematics in the East. Plant Sentience? Between Romanticism And Denial: Science, Miguel Segundo-Ortin, Paco Calvo

Animal Sentience

A growing number of non-human animal species are being seriously considered as candidates for sentience, but plants are either forgotten or explicitly excluded from these debates. In our view, this is based on the belief that plant behavior is hardwired and inflexible and on an underestimation of the role of plant electrophysiology. We weigh such assumptions against the evidence to suggest that it is time to take seriously the hypothesis that plants, too, might be sentient. We hope this target article will serve as an invitation to investigate sentience in plants with the same rigor as in non-human animals.

ฌอง-ฟรองซัวส์ เลียวทารด์ เสนอประเด็นระเบียบที่เป็นธรรมเพื่อตอบโจทย์การอยู่ร่วมกันในสังคมของผู้คนที่มีความแตกต่างหลากหลาย โดยเขาเห็นว่าในความแตกต่างหลากหลายนั้น ผู้คนต่างมีความเข้าใจในเรื่องเดียวกันไม่เหมือนกัน กล่าวคือ ต่างคนต่างอยู่ในระเบียบคนละชุด ซึ่งในระเบียบแต่ละชุดมีกฎหรือเกณฑ์ของตัวเองที่กำหนดให้เข้าใจสิ่งต่าง ๆ แตกต่างกันไป ปัญหาคือ เมื่ออยู่ในระเบียบที่ต่างกันก็จะทำให้ผู้คนมีความเห็นหรือการตัดสินต่อสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่งต่างกันไปด้วย ซึ่งจะนำไปสู่ความขัดแย้งหรือข้อพิพาทที่ไม่ลงรอย ไม่สามารถสรุปได้ ข้อสรุปที่อาจเกิดขึ้นได้ก็จะเกิดจากการที่ฝ่ายหนึ่งใช้กฎหรือเกณฑ์ของตัวเองเข้าไปตัดสินอีกฝ่ายให้เข้ามาอยู่ในระเบียบชุดเดียวกัน สิ่งนี้นำมาซึ่งระเบียบที่ไม่เป็นธรรม ดังนั้น เลียวทารด์จึงเสนอแนวทางทำความเข้าใจเรื่องความยุติธรรมไว้ 2 ประการ ได้แก่ ประการที่หนึ่ง คำอธิบาย คือ ระเบียบชุดต่าง ๆ มีคำอธิบายของตัวมันเองว่าสิ่งต่าง ๆ เป็นอย่างไร ความเป็นธรรมที่ถูกอธิบายในระเบียบชุดหนึ่ง ๆ ไม่สามารถเป็นความเป็นธรรมให้กับระเบียบชุดอื่นได้ และประการที่สอง การวางกรอบ คือ การวางกรอบให้ระเบียบชุดต่าง ๆ ได้อยู่โดยที่ไม่การปะทะหรือทับซ้อนกัน เพราะต้องการเพรักษาความแตกต่างหลากหลายเอาไว้ ไม่ให้ตกอยู่ภายใต้การครอบงำของระเบียบชุดเดียว และเพื่อให้ผู้คนได้อยู่ร่วมกันโดยที่ไม่มีใครสูญเสียตัวตนของตัวเองไป วิทยานิพนธ์นี้ต้องการศึกษาและวิเคราะห์แนวคิดเรื่องความยุติธรรมของฌอง-ฟรองซัวส์ เลียวทารด์ ซึ่งเป็นแนวทางที่จะทำให้ระเบียบที่เป็นธรรมเกิดขึ้น เพื่อการอยู่ร่วมกันของคนในสังคมโดยยังคงไว้ซึ่งความแตกต่างหลากหลาย

การทะเลาะเบาะแว้งไม่ลงรอยกันเป็นเรื่องธรรมชาติ จนในบางครั้งอาจนำไปสู่ความขัดแย้งที่เกิดขึ้นระหว่างกัน และได้สร้างบาดแผลพร้อมกับเรื่องราวที่ยากต่อการรื้อฟื้นความสัมพันธ์ให้กลับมาดังเดิม อภัยวิถีจึงเป็นอีกหนึ่งวิธีการเพื่อสร้างความสมานฉันท์ รื้อฟื้นความสัมพันธ์ที่เคยแตกร้าวไปแล้วนั้นให้เสมือนกับความขัดแย้งที่เคยเกิดขึ้นนั้นมลายหายสิ้นไป ฌาคส์ แดร์ริดา นำเสนอแนวคิดของอภัยวิถีภายใต้คำถามทางจริยศาสตร์และการเมือง โดยตั้งคำถามสำคัญถึงความเป็นไปได้ของอภัยวิถี อภัยวิถีสามารถเป็นไปได้อย่างไร ? ในบริบททางการเมือง โดยการเข้าไปสำรวจกระบวนทัศน์ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับอภัยวิถีโดยเฉพาะมโนทัศน์ที่เกิดจากแนวคิดของคริสต์ศาสนา อันเป็นรากฐานความเข้าใจของโลกตะวันตกที่ครอบงำในบริบทการเมืองโลกในศตวรรษที่ 20 จนถึงปัจจุบัน แดร์ริดา ได้นำเสนอแนวคิดซึ่งเป็นพื้นฐานที่สำคัญในเรื่องอภัยวิถี คือ อภัยวิถีให้อภัยในสิ่งที่ไม่สามารถให้อภัยได้ โดยรากฐานความเข้าใจดังกล่าวนำมาสู่การให้อภัยในความหมายของการให้โดยปราศจากเงื่อนไข การให้อภัยจึงเป็นการกระทำที่ไม่สามารถคิดคำนวณมูลค่าได้ อภัยวิถีจึงไม่ใช่การแลกเปลี่ยนเพื่อลบล้างความผิด ในทางกลับกันอภัยวิถีเป็นการยกระดับความสัมพันธ์ให้ไปในทิศทางที่เหนือกว่าเดิม เมื่ออภัยวิถีปราศจากเงื่อนไข การให้อภัยโดยตัวเองจึงเป็นข้อยกเว้นที่เกิดขึ้นเหนือกฎหมาย การชดใช้ และการลงโทษ แต่มิใช่ว่าอภัยวิถีจะเป็นกระบวนการที่ขัดต่อกฎหมายและทำลายความยุติธรรม แดร์ริดานำเสนอการกระทำของ คณะกรรมการแสวงหาความจริงและสมานฉันท์ (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) ในประเทศแอฟริกาใต้ ที่สามารถสร้างพื้นที่ปลอดภัยเพื่อให้เกิดการให้อภัยให้เกิดขึ้นได้อย่างแท้จริง

ข้อถกเถียงเรื่องสภาวะความรู้สึกตัวของสัตว์แบ่งได้เป็นสองแนว ได้แก่ แนวที่ใช้ การอ้างเหตุผลแบบไม่อนุมานความรู้สึกตัวของสัตว์ เชื่อว่าสภาวะจิตของสัตว์สามารถรับรู ้ได้โดยตรง เนื่องจากสภาวะจิตของสัตว์สามารถสังเกตได้จากการเคลื่อนไหวและการมีปฏิสัมพันธ์ของสัตว์ต่อสิ่งอื่น และแนวที่ใช้การอ้างเหตุผลแบบอนุมานความรู้สึกตัวของสัตว์ เชื่อว่า สภาวะจิตของสัตว์สามารถอนุมานได้จากพฤติกรรม ไมเคิล ไทย์ (2017) สนับสนุนแนวการอ้างเหตุผลแบบที่สองเชื่อว่า จิตของสัตว์สามารถอนุมานได้จากพฤติกรรมการเรียนรู ้ เนื่องจากพฤติกรรมการเรียนรู้แสดงให้เห็นถึงการตอบสนองแบบยืดหยุ่น ในวิทยานิพนธ์เล่มนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์และปกป้องทัศนะของไทย์ด้วยการการอ้างเหตุผลสองประการหลัก ได้แก่ หนึ่ง ความรู้สึกตัว คือ การรับประสบการณ์ ไม่ใช่การคิด และสอง แม้มีกรณีการเรียนรู้แบบปราศจากความรู้สึกตัว (เช่น การเรียนไวยากรณ์) กรณีดังกล่าวยังคงไม่เพียงพอต่อการพิสูจน์ว่าความรู้สึกตัวของสัตว์ไม่สามารถอนุมานได้จากพฤติกรรมการเรียนรู ้

“Why are we the way that we are?” is one of the hardest questions to answer because it requires grasping the origin of human beings. This has left philosophers and theologians in century-long debates on forming a “cosmogony of ontology” (i.e., how the origin of the universe informs the human condition). The concept, “original sin” was developed by a North African theologian named Augustine (354 – 430 CE). A teaching philosophy statement (TPS) is a brief, deeply personal narrative that gives insight into an educator’s perspective on the teaching enterprise. A TPS is typically comprised of a reflection on the educator’s values and beliefs, a description of what happens during the learning process, and statements about how teachers and learners ideally interact. Use of a TPS clarifies the bridge between theory/philosophy and practice which strengthens education as an interactive phenomenon and in so doing evokes an ethical purpose for the teaching-learning dynamic. Even though engineering programs, accreditation bodies, and multinational corporations have become increasingly interested in introducing global dimensions into professional engineering practice, little work in the existing literature provides an overview of questions fundamental to global engineering ethics, such as what global engineering ethics is, why it should be taught, how it should be taught, and when it should be introduced. In this paper I describe two distinctions about what “eating animals” entails which are often confused in conversations or arguments aimed against meat-based diets and try to show how both distinctions, on their own lights, ultimately support a concern for all fellow creatures, regardless of species or other biological categories. Compass: An Undergraduate Journal of American Political Ideas

In this paper, I raise a few doubts about the adequacy of Hayek's liberal theory and the rule of law in the twenty-first century. I argue that the theory 1) fails to be morally neutral by not giving proper attention to the harm experienced by the minorities, 2) does not acknowledge a satisfactory account for the exploitation of the working class, and 3) operates with a parochial definition of freedom.
