Winter Birches At York Redoubt, Irene Oore Feb 2018

Winter Birches At York Redoubt, Irene Oore

The Goose

This painting of Winter Birches at York Redoubt in Halifax, Nova Scotia reflects the grandeur and beauty of the historic site on which it sits and evacuates the fortification from it. York Redoubt, now a National Historic Park, was constructed in 1793 (just as war broke out between Britain and France) on a bluff at the narrowest point on the outer harbour. It overlooks the entrance to Halifax Harbour at Ferguson's Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada.

A Phenomenological Study Of Elementary Students In Dance Classes, Karen C. Kuebler Feb 2018

A Phenomenological Study Of Elementary Students In Dance Classes, Karen C. Kuebler

CUP Ed.D. Dissertations

Dance is a language with a variety of structures communicating unique messages using the elements of dance and the products are lived experiences. Using the phenomenological theories of Husserl, the connections to dance of Sheets-Johnstone, and the cognitive studies of Piaget, the purpose of this study was to examine the reflective process as a participant, performer, and audience member within the elementary school dance class. The opinions and ideas of elementary students are not represented within current research and administrators do not consider the students’ voices when developing dance education programming. This phenomenological study describes the assimilation of the elements …

The Keepers: A Collaborative Constructive Narrative Podcast, Shay Carroll Feb 2018

The Keepers: A Collaborative Constructive Narrative Podcast, Shay Carroll

Honors Projects

This is a fictional podcast series that presents a story that is completed through roleplaying. The structure follows that of a video game, with the main characters, or "players," interacting with a set plot while deciding their own course of action. I act as the narrator for the story, controlling the plot and setting as well as non-player characters, or "NPCs." For the purposes of consistency and making sure the characters do not do anything that would be considered too over-powered or unrealistic, I have chosen to use the rule guide and statistics modifier system presented by Wizards of the …

« L’Insulte (L’Affaire No. 23) » De Ziad Doueiri, Joseph Korkmaz Jan 2018

« L’Insulte (L’Affaire No. 23) » De Ziad Doueiri, Joseph Korkmaz

Regards

« Tramontane (Rabih) » De Vatché Boulghourjian, Joseph Korkmaz Jan 2018

« Tramontane (Rabih) » De Vatché Boulghourjian, Joseph Korkmaz

Regards

The story of a blind Lebanese musician confronting an unforgiving bureaucracy and the traumas of a violent past – the Lebanese Civil War – Vatché Boulghourjian’s Tramontane (Rabih) explores questions of memory and the lingering ghosts of war through the struggles of a war orphan seeking to obtain a passport. The article examines the trials he endures in his quest to uncover his identity, along with decades-old family and political secrets, adopting a historical perspective that draws parallels between the protagonist’s journey and society’s broader struggle to confront a troubled chapter in the nation’s history.

La « Mimèsis » Dans Le Théâtre Et La Peinture, Joanna Raad Jan 2018

La « Mimèsis » Dans Le Théâtre Et La Peinture, Joanna Raad

Regards

Regards

The evolution of technologies in the audiovisual and theatre fields has succeeded in breaking the separation between actors and digital bodies. What is an actor today? Is he still essential on stage or in film? And what about digital bodies and their ability to produce and convey emotions and performances in the same way as a human actor?

Michel Jabre Jan 2018

Michel Jabre

Regards

Meyerhold, dubbed “the people’s artist” by the Soviet regime, led a tumultuous artistic life and carried out provocative experiments in unconventional theatre settings. After cofounding the Moscow Art Theatre with renowned colleagues such as Stanislavski and Danchenko, he left the company to regain his independence as an actor and stage director. He then developed his theoretical concept of “conditional theatre,” reinterpreting classical plays in innovative ways and reimagining them within a renewed contemporary theatrical context.

Rana Azzaz Jan 2018

Rana Azzaz

Regards

Theatre for children is grounded in imaginative creativity and forms an educational, intellectual, and aesthetic tradition that refines a child’s spirit while developing taste, a sense of beauty, and openness. In Lebanon, plays designed for children began appearing in professional theatre venues in the late 1960s. The “Chouchou Children’s Theatre” was among the earliest and most significant initiatives, drawing a strong response from young audiences. In this article, I examine this phenomenon – which emerged spontaneously and without a clear methodology – with particular attention to audience reception.

The paper outlines a quantitative methodology for approaching the Getty’s data set, which was created through the transcription of Knoedler’s 11 painting stock books covering the gallery’s operations from 1872 to its closing in 1970. The paper explores the advantages of concentrating on …

Taking Cues From Online Learning Offline In The Visual Classroom, Kimberly Datchuk Jan 2018

Taking Cues From Online Learning Offline In The Visual Classroom, Kimberly Datchuk

Art History Pedagogy & Practice

Theories of online learning can inform how academic museums provide a student-centered approach to teaching. Technology has four main advantages for teaching in the museum: it is open-ended, self-paced, collaborative, and empowering. In order to activate the art works and encourage students to contribute their ideas, I have drawn on the best practices of online teaching tools when designing university class visits. The chance to discuss works among themselves enables students to make personal connections to the works and each other. The informal environment of the class visit helps to produce a student-led experience. Encouraging students to ask questions, following …

As he and his estranged wife Kelly divvy up their belongings and ultimately their memories, Jimbo is visited by his guardian angel, the ghost of dead rock star Kurt Cobain. Part dark comedy, part docudrama, this play shows how closely man emulates their heroes, and how in the void of depression, music serves an escape.

Augmented Interventions: Re-Defining Urban Interventions With Ar And Open Data, Conor Mcgarrigle

Books/Book Chapters

This chapter proposes that augmented reality art and open data offer the potential for a redefinition of urban interventionist art practices.

Data has emerged as a significant force in contemporary networked culture from the commercial commodification of online presence as practised by internet giants Facebook and Google to the 2013 revelations of the unprecedented scale of the US Government’s data collection regime carried out by the NSA (Gellman and Piotras, U.S., British intelligence mining data from nine U.S. Internet companies in broad secret program, http://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/us-intelligence-mining-data-from-nine-us- internet-companies-in-broad-secret-program/2013/06/06/3a0c0da8-cebf-11e2-8845- d970ccb04497_story.html, 2013).
