There is an obvious paradox in the theories of the Atomists. If knowledge comes to us by means of sensation, how are we to explain the atomist's knowledge of the basic propositions of his special theory: that the world consists of void, which is called 'the intangible', and atoms, which are said to be imperceptibly small? Epicurus' method was to set up a pair of contradictories - either there is a void or there is not, either matter is infinitely divisible or it is not - and then to present an argument for rejecting one of them.

The purposes of this study were to trace the history of the office of the Vestal Virgins in Rome from its founding in 715 B.C. to its abolition under Theodosius, A.D. 394, and to discuss the qualifications, selection, training, discipline, dress, duties, and privileges of its members. The author has used the classical authors of Greece and Rome as a basis for the study. The research pertaining to the Vestal Virgins, principally that by German, French, and English scholars, has also been utilized.

In 1967, a salvage excavation was conducted in Nazareth (map ref. 22855/73395), following the discovery of a rock–hewn burial cave during preparations for construction on a private plot. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by Z. Yeivin. The cave contained four hewn loculi, one of which was breached during the course of the construction work. The excavator assumed that the entrance to the cave was through a shaft that was partly destroyed. In 1967, an archaeological excavation was conducted in Samaria under the direction of A. Zigelman. According to information preserved in the archival file, tombs were uncovered during the construction of the access road to ancient Samaria. Twelve circular shafts were revealed, which undoubtedly served as burial installations. Some date to the Israelite period (Iron Age II), while others belong to the Roman period.

The Phaedrus seems to be saying that soul is the cause of all movement in an organized world, a world measurable by Time. In a non-organized world not measurable by Time one can wonder whether the movement in question has anything to do with this. At this stage words start to break down under the strain. Plato is compelled to give some description of the pre-cosmic chaos, and talk of movement in such a world is no more and no less intelligible than phrases like 'before this' (53a8) in the same passage, when Time has been admitted to be absent. …

My reason for reopening the discussion is the recent publication by Professor Vlastos of a paper entitled "Creation in the Timaeus: is it a Fiction?" This paper is an exploratory investigation of the use of analogy in Aristotle's works. The thesis is that Aristotle's analogia is not simply a classification of terms as certain scholars suggest (e.g., Joseph Owens and Harry Wolfson); that it is rather a more or less precise methodological device that Aristotle uses throughout his writings and indicates certain ontological presuppositions on the part of the Stagirite. We will first investigate the etymological background of analogia, and then consider Aristotle's uses of it. In August 1966, a trial excavation was conducted in Akhziv, north of the Akhziv bridge (map ref 2100/7730). The excavation was conducted following the discovery of a group of cist graves during expansion work on the western margins of Nahariya–Achziv–Rosh Hanikra road. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by Y. Ben Yosef. The graves were devoid of any datable finds. Skeletons were found in eight of them, oriented east–west (the skull was placed in the eastern part of the grave). The excavator attributed the graves to the Persian period.
