Demonstration Of Low Voltage And Functionally Complete Logic Operations Using Body-Biased Complementary And Ultra-Thin Aln Piezoelectric Mechanical Switches, Nipun Sinha, Timothy S. Jones, Zhijun Guo, Gianluca Piazza
Nipun Sinha
This paper reports, for the first time, on the demonstration of low voltage and functionally complete logic elements (NAND and NOR) implemented by using body-biased complementary and ultra-thin (250 nm thick) Aluminum Nitride (AlN) based piezoelectric mechanical switches. This work presents, firstly, the importance of scaling AlN films for the demonstration of ultra-thin AlN switches and, secondly, the implementation of a new actuation scheme based on body biasing to lower the switch threshold voltage. Four of these ultra-thin switches were connected together to synthesize functionally complete MEMS logic gates (NAND and NOR) with a ± 2V swing and a body-bias …

Upper Bounds On The Number Of Channels To Ensure Collision-Free Communications In Multi-Channel Wireless Networks Using Directional Antennas, 2009 Macau University of Science and Technology
Upper Bounds On The Number Of Channels To Ensure Collision-Free Communications In Multi-Channel Wireless Networks Using Directional Antennas, Hong-Ning Dai, Kam-Wing Ng, Min-You Wu
Hong-Ning Dai
Recent studies have found that using multiple channels can separate concurrent transmissions and significantly improve network throughput. However, these studies have only considered wireless nodes that are equipped with omni-directional antennas, which have high interference. On the other hand, other researchers have found that using directional antennas in wireless networks can reduce interference and improve the network performance. But their studies have only considered single channel to be used in wireless networks with directional antennas. Thus, integrating the two technologies of multiple channels and directional antennas together can potentially bring more benefits. Some previous works have studies the capacity on …
Diagnosing Intermittent And Persistent Faults Using Static Bayesian Networks, 2009 Carnegie Mellon University
Diagnosing Intermittent And Persistent Faults Using Static Bayesian Networks, Ole J. Mengshoel, Brian Ricks
Ole J Mengshoel
Both intermittent and persistent faults may occur in a wide range of systems. We present in this paper the introduction of intermittent fault handling techniques into ProDiagnose, an algorithm that previously only handled persistent faults. We discuss novel algorithmic techniques as well as how our static Bayesian networks help diagnose, in an integrated manner, a range of intermittent and persistent faults. Through experiments with data from the ADAPT electrical power system test bed, generated as part of the Second International Diagnostic Competition (DXC-10), we show that this novel variant of ProDiagnose diagnoses intermittent faults accurately and quickly, while maintaining strong …
Ss-Dna Functionalized Ultra-Thin-Film Aln Contour-Mode Resonators With Self-Sustained Oscillator For Volatile Organic Chemical Detection, 2009 University of Pennsylvania
Ss-Dna Functionalized Ultra-Thin-Film Aln Contour-Mode Resonators With Self-Sustained Oscillator For Volatile Organic Chemical Detection, Matteo Rinaldi, Brandon Duick, Chiara Zuniga, Chengjie Zuo, Gianluca Piazza
Matteo Rinaldi
This paper reports on the design and experimental verification of a new class of nanoscale gravimetric sensors based on ultra-thin-film AlN Contour-Mode Resonant Sensor (CMR-S) functionalized with ss-DNA and connected to a chip-based self-sustaining oscillator loop (fabricated in the ON Semiconductor 0.5 μm CMOS process) for direct frequency read-out. The 220 MHz oscillator based on the ultra-thin AlN CMR-S exhibits an Allan Variance of ∼20 Hz for 100 ms gate time. The sensor affinity for the adsorption of volatile organic chemicals such as 2,6 dinitroluene (DNT, a simulant for explosive vapors) is enhanced by functionalizing the top gold electrode of …
