We can observe the conductor’s work at his performances and rehearsals. However, we cannot see the process of score preparation from the time they get the score to the downbeat of the first rehearsal because the conductor does this work alone. This dissertation discusses the debate among conductors past and present about whether, when, and how to use recordings as part of the score preparation. It considers the advantages and disadvantages of using recordings in the score preparation process. I conducted several types of research on the use of recordings by living conductors. This document serves to promote Robert Fuchs's Cello Sonata No. 2, Op. 83, as a study piece for the cello, piano, and collaborative duo, showing the pedagogical benefits of this Romantic sonata. This project will begin with a biography of Fuchs and background of the work, followed by an analysis that establishes the piece in the Romantic tonal tradition. UNLV Best Teaching Practices Expo

Building an online community around learning has been challenging throughout the academic and artistic disruptions caused by the COVID 19 pandemic. In order to promote remote interaction and educe student contributions, I utilized MURAL, a virtual, collaborative whiteboard, several times during AY2020-2021 to co-create meaning and understanding of common pedagogic topics that are applied in my studio. This practice allowed all participants to contribute ideas, make revisions, and enjoy new “aha” moments in real-time with far less pressure and concern for feeling “called out” or being “wrong.”

On April 14th, 2022, pianist Colin Evers performed a solo piano recital in Davis Hall of the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The recital consisted of Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor Op. 13 “Pathétique” by Ludwig van Beethoven, Sonatine pour Piano by Maurice Ravel, Liebesleid by Fritz Kreisler, arranged for solo piano by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Étude No. 12 in D-sharp minor, Op. 8, by Alexander Scriabin, and Ballade No. 4 in F minor Op. 52 by Frédéric Chopin.

The purpose of this recital is to partially fulfill the requirements for the Master of Music degree in Jazz Pedagogy, and to display musical proficiency on drum set, piano, and bass guitar. Luke Sanders presented his graduate jazz recital on April 24, 2022, at 4:00 PM in Bengtson Auditorium. The recital program included ten pieces in total: two pieces on drum set, piano, and bass guitar, and four pieces on electric guitar.
