Camp Followers, Nurses, Soldiers, And Spies: Women And The Modern Memory Of The Revolutionary War, Heather K. Garrett 2019 CSUSB

Camp Followers, Nurses, Soldiers, And Spies: Women And The Modern Memory Of The Revolutionary War, Heather K. Garrett

History in the Making

When asked of their memory of the American Revolution, most would reference George Washington or Paul Revere, but probably not Molly Pitcher, Lydia Darragh, or Deborah Sampson. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to demonstrate not only the lack of inclusivity of women in the memory of the Revolutionary War, but also why the women that did achieve recognition surpassed the rest. In the 1950s West Berlin found a new ally in the director of the Berlin Desk at United States Department of State, Eleanor Lansing Dulles.

History in the Making

While the many immigrant stories associated with the American melting pot are set against the backdrop of the east coasts’ Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, it is important to note that immigration to America’s West Coast was arguably more influential in the development of U.S. immigration policy. Examining these struggles against the common narrative contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of what it means to come …
