The Rondo Days Festival, inaugurated in 1983, is a reunion of the Black community of the Twin Cities. It memorializes and mourns a neighborhood gone, a neighborhood where residents “learned to fill the gaps in American history (Fairbanks 1999, 141), learned about the contributions and tribulations of their people. The celebration remembers when the creation of I-94 meant the destruction of a vibrant neighborhood, moving hundreds of families from a community of truly gracious homes to “substandard housing with bad wiring” (Baker 1994). Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 3566. Scrapbook, together with clippings and ephemera contained therein, of Cora Gossom, Bowling Green, Kentucky. Although many of its pages are missing, the book is a “Mark Twain’s Scrapbook,” containing pages coated with a light adhesive that required a slight application of moisture instead of glue. The contents relate primarily to news and local social events of interest to Cora, including her own debut. Loose items include a humorous novelty card warning of “fishing pox” and a postcard extolling William Jennings Bryan.

Finding aid and scan (Click on "Additional Files" below) for Manuscripts Small Collection 3565. “Bell Buckle Spring,” a 7 page narrative by an unknown author, recounting a naval lieutenant’s reminiscences of his youth while a student in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. The story is a lyrical account of the natural features of the area and the excitement of witnessing a passing train. The story is inscribed as written in 1945 and “delivered” in May 1947.

Mr. Wall, Chairman of a Special Committee on Examination of a Site for a Governor's Mansion, submitted the, following report: Sir— On the 15th of this month there was presented and read to this body a communication from the Council of the city of Tallahassee, in which they agree to give a "Fee Simple Title" to six town lots of land within the city for a Governor's Mansion, provided the Legislature will grant $20,000 to build the same. Major George Rainsford Fairbanks, the first president of the Florida Historical Society, whose likeness appears in this number, died at his summer home in Sewanee, Tennessee, on the third day of August, 1906, in the eighty-seventh year of his age. He was born in Watertown, New York, on July 5, 1820. At the age of nineteen, he graduated from the Union College, Schenectady, with the degree of B. A. Later he received the degree of M.
