Nos proponemos en este artículo hacer una reflexión sobre la cerámica que se produjo durante el periodo Formativo o Preclásico en el área andina septentrional (3500-500 a.C.). En especial, sobre las figuras de cerámica que se desarrollaron en las culturas del país que hoy denominamos Ecuador, principalmente las pertenecientes a los yacimientos de Valdivia, Machalilla y Chorrera. Asimismo, trataremos de establecer las oportunas comparaciones con las que se dieron en las tierras del antiguo México, como es el caso de las pretty ladies o mujeres bonitas que tan abundantemente salieron en las excavaciones del yacimiento de Tlatilco. En la litoescultura antropomorfa teotihuacana la mayor parte de los ejemplares se presentan desnudos y asexuados. Al intentar definir el género, no contamos con muchos elementos, ya que los rasgos faciales inexpresivos y despersonalizados, así como los cuerpos anatómicamente poco diferenciados, no son atributos diagnósticos del género. La indumentaria es, para el caso de la escultura antropomorfa teotihuacana, un aspecto que contribuye a dilucidar el género de dichas esculturas. This thesis examines the Loyal Twenty-Seven, a group of Massachusetts revolutionaries, and their importance in the American Revolution using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods combined with traditional historical research, to attempt to show that there was a generational shift in leadership between the revolutionaries who led early British protests, and those who led the Revolutionary War and the Early Republic. This thesis is based off an original work, the United States Colonial Dataset, made up of 416 individuals divided into three groups, the Framers, Prominents, and Loyalists, and 215 unique attributes for these individuals, such as their occupation, …

Hector Berlioz was a French Romantic composer, whose literary and musical works have an undeniable effect on the history of Western music. Specifically, Berlioz’s most famous orchestral work, the Symphonie Fantastique, transformed how music could be utilized in an orchestral setting because it was the first programmatic symphony, which is a symphony with music set to a written narrative. The Symphonie would inspire German composer Richard Wagner to create what is now recognized as the leitmotif, a musical phrase used to identify an idea. In God's Hands: Faith Healing, Epilepsy, And The Question Of Human Rights, Marisa L. Pechillo

This thesis highlights the historical link between people with epilepsy (PWE) and demonic possession. The discussion traces origins of these views from antiquity to the contemporary era, foregrounding media and scholarship that emphasizes the negative perceptions of PWE developed through Christian teaching and imagery. It explores the question of whether the social isolation, abuse, and violence committed against PWE, through Christian faith healing practices such as exorcism, developed in relation to these stigmatizing views and whether these constitute a human rights violation in accordance with conventions put forth by the United Nations.

Civics using Holocaust Studies offer a variety of pedagogical advantages. Regardless of the topic, Holocaust events can be used to build critical analytical skills and cultivate essential literacy skills about the social world. Further, the Holocaust can be used to introduce and grapple with the complex/abstract ideas of the civics content. Given the relationship that social studies has to critical literacy development, civics used in conjunction with Holocaust resources present teacher(s) (educators) with the opportunity to explore (theoretical) concepts foregrounding manifold relationships making up the social world.

Walnut Grove Plantation is one of the last examples of the backcountry roots that Spartanburg has to offer. This property is home to the history of the Moore family legacy and their contribution to the beginning of Spartanburg's history. The Moore family was active in the Revolutionary War, and the notorious Bloody Bill Cunningham brought the War directly to Moore's front door. Across the Sea, proof of the scrimmage at Walnut Grove Plantation found a home at Windsor Castle for the King. As a running plantation, enslaved peoples also lived on the property and their accounts of life on Walnut …

The end of the Second World War brought many questions to the United States. One of the greatest among these was what to do with defeated Germany. Many clamored for the dissolution of the former Nazi State and the shameful humbling of its people while others recognized the value of a revitalized Germany as an ally against the looming threat of an emboldened and empowered postwar Soviet Union. Historical revisionism has long been a part of effective academic historiography. A constant re-analysis of the past and how previous historians came to their conclusions about it enable corrections to be made and new findings to be incorporated into modern and future historical metanarratives. While plentiful positive examples of this practice exist, in part because of an understanding of history as a discipline and how it is correctly and incorrectly represented in adaptations, notable poor and inappropriate examples of revisionism also exist. Model Minority Or Myth? Reexamining The Politics Of S.I. Hayakawa, Vivian Yan-Gonzalez

This article problematizes the model minority myth as an analytic in discussions of Asian American conservatism by reassessing the personal and political development of S.I. Hayakawa, Acting President of San Francisco State College during the Third World Liberation Front strike of 1968–1969. Contemporary activists and Asian American studies scholars influenced by the strike’s legacy have seen Hayakawa as a staunch conservative and an advocate of the model minority myth. However, Hayakawa was primarily motivated by his lifelong identification with the liberal tradition and his work as an advocate for racial equality. His realignment as a neoconservative Republican reflected the shifting …

For the greater portion of the 20th century Black Americans in the US South had severely restricted access to a high school education. Segregation Era Jim Crow laws effectively created two education systems in Southern US states, one for White students and another separate system for Black students. In Florida, elementary, junior high, senior high schools, and colleges were segregated by race. In Lakeland, Florida from 1928–1969 Rochelle Senior High School conferred high school diplomas to Lakeland area Black students. This article explores connections between C.S. Lewis and filmmaker Terence Fisher, notably how their works explore themes like the charm of evil, white magic’s dubious nature, and myth hinting at divine truths. By viewing these themes, Fisher and Lewis’s common views on fairy tales, and how feedback informed their work, scholars discover nuance in the perceived “Inklings versus secular British culture” dichotomy.
