Automation In Graphic Design, Robert M. Doehling

Honors College Theses

Advances in technology have had dramatic impacts throughout history on a myriad of industries outside of the technology industry itself. These changes are showcased through a brief examination of the changes within the graphic design industry since the recorded birth of the graphic. With the advent of popularized artificial intelligence seen in the modern day, many are predicting the end of graphic design. Through an analysis of current automated design products within the consumer market and a dive into the research alongside design automation professional Peter O’Donovan, it is evident that the role of the graphic designer will most likely …

The Impact Of Patronage On Contemporary Visual Arts, Emily Coats 2019 Georgia Southern University

The Impact Of Patronage On Contemporary Visual Arts, Emily Coats

Honors College Theses

Patronage is vital to the art world and the success and notoriety of its artists. From straightforward patronage during the Renaissance of the Medici Family, the independent artists of modernism, to contemporary crowdfunding, it is important to note the changes in the art world throughout history to truly understand how artists and patrons have grown and continue to evolve in our contemporary society. Considering how patronage has changed and adapted throughout history and understanding the influence it has, not only allows a deeper understanding of the art world but also the world’s culture.

Landscapes: the Journal of the International Centre for Landscape and Language

Animation adapted from literature, folk tales and ancient myths showcases diverse approaches towards reimagining elements of geographical landscapes as cultural identity. This paper aims to compare elements from Australian, Japanese and European animated works where geographical elements are used in order to recreate the original world of the literary work the animation is based on, where landscape defines the identity of the individuals and groups of enchanted animals and human custodians of the land and location. Case studies of Yoram Gross (Dot and the Kangaroo, 1977) Australia, Takahata Isao / Studio Ghibli (Racoon Wars Pom Poko, …

CGU MFA Theses

Death is the one certainty in life. This fascinates me and I cannot stop thinking about it. When it comes to life and death, the cemetery is a more realistic place than heaven and hell, and it is also a place to feel life and death more directly. A simple gravestone separates life from death. Cemeteries let people come face to face with life, death, and even love.

In a cemetery, there is a tranquility that is different from the city or nature. In a cemetery, people take off their masks and face their emotions. I believe that when we …

The Art And Process Of Wood Carving As A Meaningful Occupation, Jennifer Fortuna 2019 Western Michigan University - USA

The Art And Process Of Wood Carving As A Meaningful Occupation, Jennifer Fortuna

The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy

Leonard G. Trujillo, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, occupational therapy professor and chair emeritus based in North Carolina, provided the cover art for The Spring 2019 issue of The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy (OJOT). The piece, titled “Life’s Struggles,” is a relief carving made from butternut wood. Dr. Trujillo enjoys carving lifelike images that depict previous travels and his love of nature. His carvings are sculpted from a solid plank of wood, yet they provide the illusion of a three-dimensional form. Dr. Trujillo’s body of work reflects a lifetime of learning and engagement in the art and process of wood carving …

In The Eye Of The Activist: Surveying Student Movements Through Visual Mediums, Amber Tavakoly 2019 University of Miami

In The Eye Of The Activist: Surveying Student Movements Through Visual Mediums, Amber Tavakoly

Library Research Scholars Program 2018-2019

By researching and analyzing propaganda of various social movements of the 20th and 21st century, this project surveys the power of visual mediums of communication (e.g., posters, flyers, brochures, photographs, art, etc.) to promote the messages and missions of movements. This project explores how visual messages permeate public thought to enhance advocacy, with particular emphasis on how some images ultimately define the movements in which they were born. With an emphasis on student-led protest movements, this project cross-examines how visual media influences the branding and perception of a protest. Social movements include student-led protests in Brazil, Chile, France, …

Contemporary Muslim Fashions: De Young Museum, San Francisco, Ca, Carol Bier 2019 Graduate Theological Union

Contemporary Muslim Fashions: De Young Museum, San Francisco, Ca, Carol Bier

Textile Research Works

Calico, chintz, damask, muslin, cashmere, seersucker, taffeta, shawl, caftan, and cummerbund-all English terms derived from Islamic textiles and dress-are the products of textile technologies that resulted from colonization and trade. Their cultural origins are long forgotten, shrouded in the fast-moving commercialized fashion industry and haute couture ofthe West that developed during the 20th century. The exhibition, Contemporary Muslim Fashions, is a game-changer.

The exhibition organizers, Jill D'Alessandro and laura Camerlengo, curators of costumes and textiles at the De Young Museum in San Francisco, worked with Reina Lewis in London as a curatorial consultant. Together, they drew upon the local advice …

Melding The Mediums: Combining Fine Art, Graphic Design And Product Photography To Create Commercial Images, Natasha Lawrence, Rion Huffman

Posters

This project grew from a little girl enjoying paint by numbers, to an undergraduate student’s passion for graphic design and photography. The poster will showcase that student’s ability to synthesize information about fine art, graphic design and product photography techniques to create a series of finalized composite images with commercial value. The documentation of this academic journey will serve as a roadmap for others to understand the challenges and the overall process to meld these three mediums.

To Japan And Back: The Art Of Orr Marshall, Orr Marshall

Archives & Reprint Series (imprint)

How many ways are there to interpret an idea, to present a vision? The artist Orr Marshall's exploration of these questions is the subject of this book in text and images. Like most children, he began drawing pictures as soon as he could hold a pencil or a crayon, depicting the weird creatures of his imagination. He maintained a concentration on art through school, majoring in painting at Yale School of Art and Architecture where Josef Albers was his most inspiring teacher. Another interest of his was language study, especially Japanese and Chinese with their writing systems and calligraphy. He …

Sada Kernodle: There are seven billion people existing on this earth. That’s seven billion unique and complex minds viewing our natural world. My work includes images of organic life with the physical world. Through this, I hope to inspire those billions of minds to create, explore, and gradually heal through the process of making art. The combination of the human mind, body, and spirit with nature in its rawest form, has the ability to create powerful art pieces. This is the new global footprint for the world. Elliecia Hall: My art is about balance and imbalance. It’s both light and …
