An Entrepreneurial Approach To Librarianship, Flora G. Shrode, Jennifer R. Duncan, Wendy Holliday Apr 2010

An Entrepreneurial Approach To Librarianship, Flora G. Shrode, Jennifer R. Duncan, Wendy Holliday

Flora Shrode

Librarians from Utah State University explain recent efforts to encourage subject librarians to take a more holistic view of their roles. We are shifting from a traditional emphasis primarily on collection development and refocusing on natural connections between collections, instruction, liaison, and reference service. The poster provides background about Utah State University’s situation and explains our approach to analyzing local needs and culture to inform development of a new organizational structure. We describe our vision of subject librarianship, the process by which we assessed librarians’ ideas and goals for performing as subject librarians, and the actions we are taking to …

Spectroscopic Analysis Of Therapeutic Drugs., Laura Perdisatt, Christine O'Connor, Samar Moqadasi, Luke O'Neill Jan 2010

Spectroscopic Analysis Of Therapeutic Drugs., Laura Perdisatt, Christine O'Connor, Samar Moqadasi, Luke O'Neill

Conference Papers

The aim of this project was to investigate the photochemistry of three new Ruthenium (II) complexes as possible therapeutics and their associated ligands. The objectives were to use the following spectroscopic techniques: Absorption, Emission and Raman spectroscopy. Luminescent lifetime measurements were obtained by laser studies (Nd:YAG laser and Time coupled single photon counting (TCSPC) ).

Synthesis And Spectroscopic Analysis Of Therapeutic Ru(Ii) Complexes, Samar Moqadasi, Laura Perdisatt, Christine O'Connor, Luke O'Neill Jan 2009

Synthesis And Spectroscopic Analysis Of Therapeutic Ru(Ii) Complexes, Samar Moqadasi, Laura Perdisatt, Christine O'Connor, Luke O'Neill

Conference Papers

The aim of this study is to synthesise and characterise new ligands based on a 1,10-Phenanthroline-5,6-dione backbone and their respective Ru(II) complexes; Ru(bpy)2mfmp, Ru(bpy)2fmp and Ru(bpy)2NO2-mp as shown in figure 1.The synthesis of the ligands will be discussed and a variety of Ru(II) complexes. A brief insight of the electronic and NMR spectroscopy will be presented along with preliminary photochemical results such as extinction coefficients, quantum yields and luminescence lifetimes. Ruthenium complexes have well established synthetic and photochemical properties.1The objective of this work is to synthesise Ru(II) complexes for the applications of potential therapeutics. In order to establish their uses …

Photochemical Studies Of Nutraceuticals In The Presence Of Cyclodextrins, Zlata Tofzikovskaya, Christine O'Connor, Mary Mcnamara Jan 2008

Photochemical Studies Of Nutraceuticals In The Presence Of Cyclodextrins, Zlata Tofzikovskaya, Christine O'Connor, Mary Mcnamara

Conference Papers

The photostability studies of Folic acid and Menadione Sodium Bisulfite, also known as vitamin K3, were carried out in their aqueous solutions at room temperature. Solutions of Folic acid ( 4.8 x 10-5 M) and Menadione Sodium Bisulfite (4.0 x 10-4 M) were exposed to ultraviolet radiation at a wavelength of 365 nm. During exposure absorbance of both solutions was measured using a Perkin Elmer Lamda 900 UV/VIS/NIR Spectrometer. During the stability tests it was noted that addition of β Cyclodextrin (1:1 ratio) to aqueous solutions containing the vitamin slowed down the photodegradation process. The unique shape of Cyclodextrins allows …

Metallopharmaceuticals As Photoactivatable Anticancer Drugs, Samar Moqadasi, Christine O'Connor, Denis O'Shea, Michael Devereux Jun 2007

Metallopharmaceuticals As Photoactivatable Anticancer Drugs, Samar Moqadasi, Christine O'Connor, Denis O'Shea, Michael Devereux

Conference Papers

Target-based research (treating infected site only), directed towards the design and mechanism of action of metal-based anticancer complexes is expanding rapidly due to the selectivity and activity of such novel therapeutics. The photo activation of Ruthenium (II) complexes as therapeutic drugs has recently escalated as the complexes are suitable for photoactivation due to their well published photochemical and photophysical properties which in turn is the basis of photodynamic approaches to therapy.1-5 The aim of this study is to synthesise a series of metallo-complexes of which will be tested on tumour and non-tumour cell lines in the Radiation & Environmental Science …

Activated Carbon Open Circuit Potential Shifts In Aqueous Solutions, Mikhail M. Goldin, Gary Blanchard, Alexander Volkov, Mogely Khubutiya, Vladimir Kolesnikov, Anatoly Evseev, Mark Goldin Jan 2007

Activated Carbon Open Circuit Potential Shifts In Aqueous Solutions, Mikhail M. Goldin, Gary Blanchard, Alexander Volkov, Mogely Khubutiya, Vladimir Kolesnikov, Anatoly Evseev, Mark Goldin

Faculty Publications and Presentations

Interaction of certain organic compounds with activated carbon and its effect on the carbon open circuit potentials were studied. It was shown that shifts in open circuit potentials depended on the filling of the activated carbon surface. Whereas adsorption of the investigated compounds on the carbon led to positive potential shifts, their elimination (desorption) from carbon surface led to shifts in the opposite direction. It was also observed that the time dependence of potential shifts is similar for different carbon brands. The magnitude of shifts depended on adsorption activity and porometric characteristics of the carbon adsorbent, as well as the …
