An Investigation Of A Matching Lexical Cloze Procedure With Eighth Grade Students, Elaine S. Bewig
Theses
In order to systematize the item writing procedure for developing reading comprehension measures for the regular classroom, the major purpose of this study was to compare the reliability, validity, and difficulty of a matching lexical cloze test, two traditional or passage-question group informal reading tests, and a standardized measure of reading comprehension, the Stanford Achievement Test. One of the traditional group informals was composed of two reading sections, each followed by 20- 25 literal comprehension questions which were developed by Finn in his dissertation of 1973. The other traditional group informal was composed of two reading selections taken from a …

Prototype And Distinctive Feature Processing In Young Children As Related To Nonsense Words, Janice Faye Wallace
Prototype And Distinctive Feature Processing In Young Children As Related To Nonsense Words, Janice Faye Wallace
Graduate Theses
Human learning processes have long been topics of interest and research. Two processes, prototype and distinctive feature, were investigated in 20 kindergarteners in two groups of 10 each. I hypothesized that the prototype processing group would perform better than the distinctive feature group because of the age and probable cognitive development of the children. Group El was given instructions and trained to form prototypes of verbally presented nonsense words for classification. Group Eli was directed and trained to determine distinctive feature rules of the same nonsense words for classification. A transfer design was used to test learning. El reflected prototype …

A Field Test Of A Reading Program Needs Assessment Strategy, Linda Jane Howard Vingelen
A Field Test Of A Reading Program Needs Assessment Strategy, Linda Jane Howard Vingelen
Dissertations
This dissertation described a needs assessment model for a reading program and described the field testing of that model. The needs assessment model was a strategy for conducting a comprehensive and systematic assessment of reading program needs in kindergarten through Grade 12. The model could be used as a basis for educational program planning by a director of reading and a school superintendent. A model for conducting a reading program needs assessment was conceived and field tested because there were few available needs assessment models in reading which have been field tested. Field testing was particularly vital because only after …
The Interrelationship Of Leader Self-Actualization And Life Stressors To The Resultant Incidence Of Reported Medical Problems Of Middle Management Educators, John S. Thatcher
The Interrelationship Of Leader Self-Actualization And Life Stressors To The Resultant Incidence Of Reported Medical Problems Of Middle Management Educators, John S. Thatcher
Dissertations
Schools, being a part of the larger social system, have not escaped the increasing pressures evident in our society. The principalship as an important component of the educational process has not enjoyed immunity from this same problem.
Because school principals are individuals, they react differently to life stressors. Some appear to have the ability to handle all stressors without suffering any onset of medical problems. Others appear not to have this immunity and as a result have medical difficulties. Because of this seeming difference and because of a lack of research of this type in education, the relationships between life …

An Investigation Of "Spirituotherapy": An Approach To Christian Counseling, Robert Q. Hendershott
Dissertations
The Christian counseling field as known today is a relatively new professional practice. Little evaluative research has been undertaken on the various counseling approaches which corporately make up the Christian counseling movement. This research studied one of these new Christian approaches, "Spirituotherapy" (Christ-centered counseling).
Spirituotherapy's thrust and teachings are directed towards individuals who are seeking biblical answers for the problems for which they are seeking psychological help. This study sought to identify what effect Spirituotherapy had on past clients of Grace Fellowship International (GFI), the organization pioneering Spirituotherapy. The clients' perceptions of the effect of counseling at GFI was the …

Parent-Child Relationships And Self Concept: A Comparison Of Children From Divorced And Intact Families, Korrel Woody Kanoy
Parent-Child Relationships And Self Concept: A Comparison Of Children From Divorced And Intact Families, Korrel Woody Kanoy
Doctoral Dissertations
Understanding the impact of divorce on children becomes more vital each year because of the increasing number of children who experience parental divorce. Although there is substantial literature on divorce, inconclusive findings exist because (a) not enough researchers have compared children of divorced families to children from intact families, (b) divorce is often viewed as a single event rather than a process involving many variables, and (c) few researchers have examined post-divorce relationships among family members as in important predictor of adjustment to divorce. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare children from divorced and intact families with …

Recital Report, Gregory John Wheeler
Recital Report, Gregory John Wheeler
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Two basic ideas underlie the purpose of this recital and report:
(1) There are certain fundamental techniques that a woodwind teacher must employ in his teaching methods. These techniques include: tone production, fingerlings, and articulation, which vary significantly with each of the woodwind instruments. There are many teachers in the field of music education who profess to be skilled on all woodwind instruments, when in fact, their knowledge is limited to one instrument only. With this limited knowledge they attempt to teach techniques and concepts that pertain to all woodwind instruments. Indeed, an educator may have or create many problems …
