This work will discuss the growing modern phenomenon of theme park and regional haunt events in the United States. In it, we will explore the history of how horror has been presented on stage, the themes within horror that creators grapple with, and how by using traditional theatrical elements creators of modern haunt events are able to make the audience a part of the story, transforming them from passive observers of the scenarios presented to complicit participants. This creative project and study was proposed to investigate the impacts of online theatre on audience members’ emotions, feelings, and comprehension of the show. The Research questions asked were: RQ1: How does the viewing medium, if at all, affect the audience's response to a theatrical performance? And RQ2: Which, if any, technological mediums do audiences members prefer to use to watch theatre? Three versions of the same play were made and adapted to their respective social media platforms: YouTube, Instagram Live, and TikTok. COVID-19 has brought to the fore the violence faced by slaughterhouse workers and those they are charged with slaughtering. This article argues that COVID-19 has wrought an acceleration of the slow violence of state organized race crime (Nixon, Ward), in spreading rapidly through the slaughterhouse and to surrounding racialized communities. We show that zoonotic pandemics are the result of state organized race crime, and that abattoirs are locations of inseparable animal and racial violence. While many writers have advocated the importance of narrative as a means of engaging with the problem of extinction, this paper considers what the qualities of visual aesthetics bring to this field. In addressing this question, the discussion turns to the problem of the ethical limits of art raised by Adorno and takes a theoretical turn away from posthumanism to consider how visual responses can redirect attention back to human agency. The focus of visual analysis is on five paintings by the contemporary Iranian artist Naeemeh Naeemaei. Empathy, Animals, And Deadly Vices, Kathie Jenni

In Deadly Vices, Gabriele Taylor provides a secular analysis of vices which in Christian theology were thought to bring death to the soul: sloth, envy, avarice, pride, anger, lust, and gluttony. She argues that these vices are appropriately singled out and grouped together in that ‘they are destructive of the self and prevent its flourishing’. Using a related approach, I offer a secular analysis of gluttony and cowardice, examining their roles in common failures to empathise with animals. I argue that these vices constitute serious moral failings, for they enable continuing complicity in animal abuse and undermine integrity. While Taylor …

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ศึกษายี่เกเขมรสุรินทร์ ซึ่งเป็นการแสดงพื้นบ้านเพื่ออนุรักษ์ไว้ในฐานะพิพิธภัณฑ์ที่มีชีวิต ด้วยวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ จากเอกสาร การสัมภาษณ์ สังเกตการณ์ การลงภาคสนาม โดยมีขอบเขตการศึกษาการแสดงยี่เกเขมรในพื้นที่จังหวัดสุรินทร์ ตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึง พ.ศ. 2564 ผลวิจัยพบว่า ยี่เกเขมรสุรินทร์เป็นการแสดงอาชีพในชุมชนเขมรถิ่นไทยในอีสานใต้ ที่ได้รับอิทธิพลจากลิเกของกรุงเทพฯ ผ่านนครราชสีมา ซึ่งแพร่มาตามทางรถไฟสายกรุงเทพฯ-อุบลราชธานี และจากละครยี่เกบริเวณจังหวัดเสียมราฐของราชอาณาจักรกัมพูชา ประมาณพ.ศ. 2425 แล้วพัฒนาให้สอดคล้องกับวัฒนธรรมของชุมชน ยี่เกเขมรสุรินทร์ในปัจจุบันพบว่ามี 4 คณะ แต่ละคณะมีสมาชิกเป็นเครือญาติ ยี่เกเขมรสุรินทร์อยู่ในมีสภาวะเสื่อมถอยเนื่องจากไม่เป็นที่นิยมจึงขาดการสืบทอดการแสดง ศิลปินส่วนใหญ่สูงวัยและลดจำนวนลงอีกทั้งศิลปินรุ่นใหม่ก็มีน้อย โอกาสที่แสดงเป็นงานบันเทิง งานพิธีกรรม งานสาธิต และมีเพียงคณะเดียวที่จัดการแสดงได้เต็มรูปแบบ การแสดงยี่เกเขมรสุรินทร์มี 4 ขั้นตอนสำคัญ ขั้นแรก คือ การปลูกโรงชั่วคราวไม่หันหน้าไปทางตะวันตกและไม่แสดงใต้ถุนอาคาร ขั้นที่ 2 คือ การไหว้ครูและเบิกโรง ขั้นที่ 3 คือ การแสดงดำเนินเรื่องอย่างละคร และขั้นที่ 4 คือ การลาโรง องค์ประกอบการแสดง ได้แก่ บทละครซึ่งพัฒนามาจากบทละครนอกและนิทานพื้นบ้านเป็นภาษาเขมรถิ่นไทย ตัวละครแบ่งเป็นตัวพระ ตัวนาง ตัวรำประกอบบทซึ่งใช้ผู้หญิงแสดง และตัวเบ็ดเตล็ดใช้ผู้ชายแสดง ผู้แสดงร้องพร้อมรำทำบทและรำเพลงด้วยตนเอง วงดนตรีประกอบด้วยปี่ในบรรเลงทำนอง และกลองรำมะนา 2-4 ใบทำจังหวะ เพลงแบ่งเป็นเพลงรำทำบทกับเพลงรำชุดซึ่งมีทำนองของเขมรถิ่นไทย เครื่องแต่งกายเป็นแบบพื้นบ้านสีสดใส ตัวพระสวมเสื้อแขนสั้น นุ่งโจงกระเบนไหม สวมชฎา กรองคอ เข็มขัด กำไล ตัวนางสวมเสื้อแขนสั้นห่มสะไบ นุ่งซิ่นไหม สวมกระบังหน้า ตัวเบ็ดเตล็ดสวมหน้ากากรูปสัตว์ หรืออมนุษย์ อุปกรณ์ประจำกายทำด้วยไม้ที่มีน้ำหนักเบา รูปแบบการแสดงที่เด่นเป็นพิเศษคือ นางรำจะรำเป็นชุดอย่างพร้อมเพรียงเพื่อเป็นพื้นหลังของตัวละครเอกที่กำลังรำทำบทต่าง ๆ อยู่ ผู้วิจัยจะนำความรู้จากการวิจัยนี้ไปจัดทำเป็นหลักสูตรให้เยาวชนได้ฝึกหัด และแสดงเพื่ออนุรักษ์ยี่เกเขมรให้เป็นอัตลักษณ์ทางวัฒนธรรมของเขมรถิ่นไทยสืบไป และขอเสนอแนะให้มีการค้นคว้าวิจัยการแสดงท้องถิ่นอื่น ๆ ที่ใกล้จะสูญหายเพื่ออนุรักษ์ไว้เป็นมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมของท้องถิ่นนั้นตลอดไป

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่อง การสร้างสรรค์การแสดงหุ่นเรื่องพระพุทธเจ้าผ่านสื่อดิจิทัล เป็นการวิจัยเชิงทดลอง ที่มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสร้างสรรค์สื่อการแสดงหุ่นไทยรูปแบบใหม่ผ่านสื่อดิจิทัล โดยมีเนื้อหาหลักธรรมผ่านการเล่าเรื่องพุทธประวัติสู่กลุ่มผู้ชมเป้าหมายคือเด็กช่วงอายุ 6-10 ปีจำนวน 40 คนที่สามารถเข้าถึงและใช้สื่อออนไลน์ได้ด้วยตัวเองและไม่คุ้นเคยกับเนื้อหาในการแสดงนี้มาก่อน ประกอบกับการสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านสื่อ ด้านการแสดง และด้านพุทธศาสนาจำนวน 12 คน มีการทดลองสร้างสรรค์สื่อการแสดงหุ่นในรูปแบบ 3D print เรื่องพระพุทธประวัติในรูปแบบสื่อดิจิทัลเผยแพร่ในสื่อโซเชียลมีเดียจำนวน 2 ตอน (ตอน “แพะรับบาป” เกี่ยวกับศีลไม่ฆ่าสัตว์ความยาว 12 นาทีและตอน “คนเหมือนกัน” เกี่ยวกับการกลั่นแกล้งความยาว 9.30 นาที และเก็บข้อมูลผ่านระบบออนไลน์จากกลุ่มเป้าหมายมาประมวลผล ผลวิจัยพบว่า กระบวนการสร้างสรรค์สื่อดิจิทัลมีต้นทุนต่ำและมีกระบวนการผลิตที่รวดเร็ว เพราะใช้บุคลากรและขั้นตอนการผลิตน้อยกว่าแบบเดิม หลังชมผลงานสื่อการแสดงในระบบสื่อดิจิทัล ผู้ชมกลุ่มเป้าหมายได้ตระหนักรู้ถึงหลักธรรมของพุทธศาสนา มีความรู้ความเข้าใจพุทธประวัติมากขึ้น และชื่นชอบการแสดงหุ่นที่กระชับสวยงามสนุกสนานเข้าใจง่ายและเข้าถึงสถานการณ์ปัจจุบันผ่านเทคโนโลยีการสร้างสรรค์สื่อดิจิทัลที่เหมาะสมกับกลุ่มเป้าหมาย ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับความเห็นของผู้เชี่ยวชาญ ผู้วิจัยหวังว่างานวิจัยนี้สามารถเป็นแรงบันดาลใจและเป็นทางเลือกใหม่ในการแสดงหุ่นไทยผ่านสื่อดิจิทัลแก่ศิลปินและนักวิชาการงานศิลป์ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในช่วงสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดโควิด 19 อีกทั้งเป็นแนวทางใหม่ในการอนุรักษ์สืบสานและพัฒนาศิลปะการแสดงหุ่นไทยให้ดำรงอยู่ต่อไปในโลกอนาคต

งานวิจัยสร้างสรรค์ชิ้นนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากระบวนการสร้างสรรค์การแสดงรูปแบบอิมเมอร์ซีฟเฉพาะที่ และทดลองกำกับการแสดง เรื่อง “เช่า เขา อยู่” ของ นฤทธิ์ ปาเฉย ในรูปแบบละครอิมเมอร์ซีฟเฉพาะที่บนพื้นที่ออนไลน์ ผ่านแอพลิเคชั่น ซูม คลาวด์มีตติ้ง ซึ่งนอกจากจะเป็นการปรับตัวในสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของโรคโควิด 19 แล้ว ยังเป็นการมุ่งหน้าสู่จักรวาลนฤมิตซึ่งเข้ามามีบทบาทกับวิถีชีวิตมนุษย์มากขึ้น จึงอาจเป็นแนวทางของการสร้างสรรค์ละครเวทีรูปแบบใหม่ในอนาคต ผู้วิจัยได้วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลต่าง ๆ และสังเคราะห์เป็นกระบวนการกำกับการแสดงเรื่อง “เช่า เขา อยู่” ซึ่งมุ่งสร้างองค์ประกอบของละครอิมเมอร์ซีฟตามทัศนะของ โรส บิกกิ้น ให้เหมาะสมกับพื้นที่ออนไลน์ดังนี้คือ 1) ปรับพื้นที่และสภาพแวดล้อมที่ตั้งใจจะจัดในอาคารพาณิชย์ร้างแห่งหนึ่งในเยาวราช มาเป็นพื้นที่เสมือนบนแอพลิเคชั่น ซูม คลาวด์ มีตติ้ง 2) สร้างเรื่องเล่าแบบหลากลำดับเรื่องให้ผู้ชมแต่ละคนเลือกลำดับการรับชมได้ด้วยตนเอง และ 3) ออกแบบให้ผู้ชมมีปฏิสัมพันธ์ต่อเรื่องเล่า ต่อผู้ชมด้วยกันเอง และต่อผู้แสดงผ่านกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ จากนั้นจึงนำเสนอต่อผู้ชมทั่วไป ผลการวิจัยบ่งชี้ว่าการสร้างองค์ประกอบทั้ง 3 ของละครอิมเมอร์ซีฟให้สัมพันธ์กันอย่างมีเอกภาพช่วยให้ผู้ชมเชื่อว่าตนเป็นส่วนสำคัญในใจกลางของการแสดง และมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับเรื่องได้ไม่ต่างจากการจัดแสดงบนพื้นทางกายภาพ ผู้วิจัยมีข้อเสนอแนะว่าควรให้มีการสร้างสรรค์ละครอิมเมอร์ซีฟเฉพาะที่บนพื้นที่ออนไลน์ในสื่ออื่นอีก เพื่อค้นหารูปแบบการแสดงออนไลน์ใหม่ ๆ ซึ่งจะช่วยพัฒนาศิลปะการละครให้ก้าวไปในจักรวาลนฤมิตอย่างสร้างสรรค์

In this final report about her 2020-21 internship at London’s Grand Theatre, Kaitlyn Lonnee discusses the ups and downs of an internship in the world of an international pandemic; the work she completed as a contributor to a souvenir publication meant to document the Grand’s historic multimillion-dollar renovation and modernization by interviewing theatre staff, board members, and donors; the skill sets, lessons, and relationships she has come away from the experience with; the value of internships and community learning experiences; how SASAH contributed to her success in this position; and finally, her plans for the future.

Final Experiential Learning Report: The Stratford Festival Archives & Ecuador Women’S Empowerment Trip, Julia Campbell

To fulfil my SASAH experiential-learning requirement, I worked as an intern at the Stratford Festival Archives in 2017 and travelled to Ecuador as part of a Women’s Empowerment trip in 2018. At the Festival, my colleague and I were responsible for designing the Archives’ first-ever digital catalogue. We researched the provenance of each costume piece, which often included looking through design bibles and conducting informal interviews. We then photographed and wrote detailed descriptions for each costume piece. By the end of the summer, my colleague and I had written over 300 complete entries, laying the groundwork for future interns. My …
