Top Girls, Otterbein University Theatre and Dance Department 2017 Otterbein University

Top Girls, Otterbein University Theatre And Dance Department

2016-2017 Season

Top Girls is a 1982 play by Caryl Churchill. It is about a woman named Marlene, a career-driven woman who is only interested in women's success in business. In the famous opening scene, she hosts a dinner party for a group of famous women from history. As the play unfolds we find Marlene has left her 'poor' life, and illegitimate child with her sister Joyce, in order to tread the path to 'success'. The play is contemporary and examines the role of women in society and what being a successful woman means.

Històries De Broadway, Hollywood I Altres Llocs: El Periple Nord-Americà De Terra Baixa D’Àngel Guimerà, Sharon G. Feldman

Latin American, Latino and Iberian Studies Faculty Publications

This article reviews the American tour of Àngel Guimerà's Terra baixa.

“The Blood Remember Don’T It?”: The Ethnocultural Dramatic Structure Of Katori Hall’S The Blood Quilt, Artisia Green 2017 William & Mary

“The Blood Remember Don’T It?”: The Ethnocultural Dramatic Structure Of Katori Hall’S The Blood Quilt, Artisia Green

Arts & Sciences Articles

The Yorùbá influenced Ethnocultural Dramatic Structure of Katori Hall’s The Blood Quilt is an example of the enduring philosophical permanence of African aesthetics within the tradition of Black Theatre. Within The Blood Quilt is the manifestation of a Yorùbá traditional divination system and body of orature, the Odù Ifá. Hall acknowledges exploring Yorùbá cultural expressions, yet she refutes any dramaturgical intention to locate the play within the Odù Ifá. Thus, the incarnation of verses of Ifá in the text evidences her belief that a playwright’s consciousness and her work are often phenomenologically informed. This analysis argues that recognizing, understanding, and …

Ecologies Of The Passions In Early Modern English Tragedies, Roya Biggie 2017 The Graduate Center, City University of New York

Ecologies Of The Passions In Early Modern English Tragedies, Roya Biggie

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

Ecologies of the Passions recovers a neglected model for understanding early modern relationality, one that turns the seemingly inward experience of emotion outward toward the environment. Drawing on early modern medical texts, I argue that the period’s dramatists imagine bodies as humorally vulnerable to other bodies, both human and nonhuman, within dynamically affective environments. As such, my project illustrates the intimate configurations of human and nonhuman life in early modern tragedies. Building upon recent work in the emerging fields of ecocriticism and affect theory, I argue that the period’s dramatic literature exposes the porous fluidity of the Galenic body—its embeddedness …
