Online Learning In Post-Covid Library Instruction: Creating A Library Skills And Orientation Blackboard Course At The University Of Mississippi, Brooke Gross

This paper examines the development process of a library Blackboard course by a Research & Instruction Librarian at the University of Mississippi over the course of one summer. The Library Skills and Orientation course sought to address two issues: limited first-year instruction capabilities and underdeveloped skillsets in upper-level students. It was designed to replace first-year instruction where able and supplement subject-specific instruction where needed. It is time to consider if cookbooks hold this disparity and closely look at the gender of authors in the culinary world. This study explored gender within the CODES List-Cookbooks 2019-2022, a juried list of cookbooks published 2018-2021, as well as determined if Texas public colleges and universities carry these titles. A content analysis of 53 public library systems’ websites listed on the Public Library Directory of Mississippi Library Commission was conducted. The purpose of the study was to find types and levels of digital services offered by these library systems. The term “digital services” has been more used in recent literature, which suggests that more libraries started offering more since the start of COVID-19. This study intended to look closely how Mississippi’s public libraries follow the national trend.

Abstract: Censorship has become more prevalent in Chinese cultural and social life since the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre. Modern commentary on Chinese censorship focuses on news media and Internet, but neglects print books, which is part of a broader crackdown on dissent. To fill this gap, the project aims to map the contours of book censorship in China during the past 30 years. Much as Ohio University diverted the Hocking River to avoid catastrophic annual flood damage, so too must academic libraries consider alternative means of publishing materials to reduce inflating costs that drive a catastrophic loss of resources. In Spring 2022, a group of faculty and administrators came together to host a pilot Student Research Symposium, and the library was invited to participate in the planning process. The conference proceedings were published via the TAMU-CC Repository. Digital copies of all posters and presentation materials were also added to the Repository. Due to ongoing research and other concerns, in addition to an embargo option, students were given the option to make their work available only to authenticated campus users.
