Student-centered learning necessitates that students engage with an array of materials to develop their own understandings, often requiring students to find and critically engage with biological information. This project describes a course (BIOL 131; Biology II: Development, Structure and Function of Organisms) that utilizes cyber Peer-led Team Learning (cPLTL) as a student-centered approach to enhance students’ biological information literacy. Emphasizing the social aspects of learning, students work together in small groups led by a peer mentor using online meeting software. Incorporating gaming and active learning elements into library instruction in academic libraries has proven to be an effective way to engage Millennials and increase their retention of knowledge. This article ties research on the learning preferences of Millennials to elements of active and game-based learning. The author describes the process of creating an innovative game based on Candy Land to teach undergraduates about information ethics and makes recommendations for creating non-digital games for instructional purposes based on this experience.

Many of us define success in the classroom by the quality and quantity of student participation, but despite our best efforts, there are substantial barriers in place that discourage students outside of the vocal minority from getting more involved in our classes. This paper describes the use of a "graffiti wall" as found on Padlet (padlet.com) to overcome some of the challenges involved in class participation in order to encourage whole-class collaboration and engagement.

Teaching librarians are always seeking opportunities to improve their professional practice. Traditional forms of professional and personal development—attending workshops and conferences and reading the scholarly and practitioner literature—are valuable and useful, but often ignore the powerful personal connections we have between colleagues. Using a narrative approach, this article will provide two teacher librarians’ stories about their experiences with team teaching as a method of professional development. Turning the traditional mentorship model on its head, each librarian contributed equally to the relationship and took the risk of being vulnerable in order to learn from one another. The need for a tailored textbook for a distance class of PhD nursing students led to a collaboration between a College of Nursing faculty member and librarians from academic and health sciences libraries. The partnership incorporated new and existing library services in the “Research with Diverse Populations” class. Librarians provided curriculum support services and facilitated the creation of an eTextbook authored by class members. For the past nine months, Graham Stone and Jill Emery have been promoting OAWAL: Open Access Workflows for Academic Librarians on a blog site, through Facebook ™, through Twitter ™, and at inperson events in both the USA and UK to raise awareness of open access management issues in academic libraries and in an attempt to crowdsource best practices internationally.
