Academic libraries have long had print journals to support the university’s discovery and research needs. However, academic libraries are challenged with needs for relevant content, cost control, and space availability, and some have downsized their print journal collections as a result. Many academic libraries are replacing or supplementing print journal subscriptions with online subscriptions and open access journals. Pittsburg State University’s (PSU) Axe Library faces the challenge of providing access to print and online journals in order to support the university’s needs and stay on budget. In 2018, SJSU Library completed a project to revamp our public dashboard, incorporating data visualization best practices using Tableau. This session will focus on the step-by-step process of implementing this project, from the first stages to a successful debut. After some preliminary research, we began by creating a prototype and gathering feedback from stakeholders. Next we cleaned and extracted our data from Alma Analytics and other sources. A team of Bryant University Librarians are participating in the EXCITE Transformation for Libraries program through the Connecticut State Library. We conducted a series of structured group and one-on-one conversations with students, faculty, and staff in order to learn about how they think and feel about teamwork, the library, and collaboration at the library. We found that students in particular were far more responsive to community sessions than in taking surveys.

Background: In the development of a new institutional repository, library staff at a large health system were faced with building an organizational structure that would be meaningful to both internal and external users. The health system context meant unique challenges designing a taxonomy that supported end users as well as institutional goals and branding. Health systems have unique user needs for specialized collections and organizational schemes. With a comparatively large volume of items being added there are also concerns with the backend structures to accommodate the institutions’ large research output.
