A Survey On Graph Representation And Visualization Techniques, Chen Yi, Menglu Zhang, Yuchai Wan

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: A graph consists of nodes and edges, and represents the relationship between two or more entities. Graph-based analysis can help understand the structure and nature of the entity relationships and reveal the implicit relationships in graphs. The representation and visualization methods of graphs play an important role in the graph analysis. In graph visualization research, the accuracy of knowledge transfer and people's mental map, etc. should be considered first, then the graphs beauty, the time requirement, and the computer performance. The graph representation methods, graph layout algorithms, visualization methods based on node-link-graphs, adjacency matrices, and graph embedding are reviewed, …

Human Supremacy As Posthuman Risk, Daniel Estrada 2020 New Jersey Institute of Technology

Human Supremacy As Posthuman Risk, Daniel Estrada

The Journal of Sociotechnical Critique

Human supremacy is the widely held view that human interests ought to be privileged over other interests as a matter of ethics and public policy. Posthumanism is the historical situation characterized by a critical reevaluation of anthropocentrist theory and practice. This paper draws on animal studies, critical posthumanism, and the critique of ideal theory in Charles Mills and Serene Khader to address the appeal to human supremacist rhetoric in AI ethics and policy discussions, particularly in the work of Joanna Bryson. This analysis identifies a specific risk posed by human supremacist policy in a posthuman context, namely the classification of …

Allosteric Regulation At The Crossroads Of New Technologies: Multiscale Modeling, Networks, And Machine Learning, Gennady M. Verkhivker, Steve Agajanian, Guang Hu, Peng Tao

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research

Allosteric regulation is a common mechanism employed by complex biomolecular systems for regulation of activity and adaptability in the cellular environment, serving as an effective molecular tool for cellular communication. As an intrinsic but elusive property, allostery is a ubiquitous phenomenon where binding or disturbing of a distal site in a protein can functionally control its activity and is considered as the “second secret of life.” The fundamental biological importance and complexity of these processes require a multi-faceted platform of synergistically integrated approaches for prediction and characterization of allosteric functional states, atomistic reconstruction of allosteric regulatory mechanisms and discovery of …

From Ai With Love: Reading Big Data Poetry Through Gilbert Simondon’S Theory Of Transduction, Andrew Klobucar

Electronic Literature Organization Conference 2020

Computation initiated a far-reaching re-imagination of language, not just as an information tool, but as a social, bio-physical activity in general. Modern lexicology provides an important overview of the ongoing development of textual documentation and its applications in relation to language and linguistics. At the same time, the evolution of lexical tools from the first dictionaries and graphs to algorithmically generated scatter plots of live online interaction patterns has been surprisingly swift. Modern communication and information studies from Norbert Weiner to the present-day support direct parallels between coding and linguistic systems. However, most theories of computation as a model of …

Why Are We Like This?: Exploring Writing Mechanics For An Ai-Augmented Storytelling Game, Max Kreminski, Melanie Dickinson, Michael Mateas, Noah Wardrip-Fruin

Electronic Literature Organization Conference 2020

Why Are We Like This? (WAWLT) is a playful, co-creative, AI-augmented, improvisational storytelling game in which one or more players explore and influence an ongoing simulation which they then glean for narrative material. It uses the recently developed simulation technology of story sifting (the recognition of microstories in a chronicle of simulation events), via the Felt library, to afford a new kind of playful, social, and creative writing experience. In this paper, we discuss our primary design goals: (1) using computation and interaction design to support casual player creativity, and (2) foregrounding character subjectivity as a driver for …

Face Recognition Method Based On Cost-Sensitive Supervised Manifold Learning, Yeqin Cui, Jianguo Gao

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Existing subspace learning-based face recognition methods assume the same loss from all misclassifications. In the real-world face recognition applications, however, different misclassifications can lead to different losses. Motivated by this concern, a cost-sensitive supervised manifold learning approach for face recognition was proposed. The proposed approach incorporated a cost matrix to specify the different costs associated with misclassifications of subjects, into locality preserving projection algorithm, which devised the corresponding cost-sensitive methods, namely, cost-sensitive locality preserving projections (Cos-Sen LPP), to achieve a minimal overall loss. Three face databases were put into the experiments and experimental results show that Cos-Sen LPP method …

Co-Design Between Robust H∞ Guaranteed Cost Fault-Tolerant And Communication For Nncs Based On Event-Triggered, Li Wei, Kun Yan, Yajie Li

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Based on the discrete event-triggered communication scheme (DETCS), the co-design between robust H∞ guaranteed cost fault-tolerant control and communication was studied for uncertain nonlinear networked control system (NNCS) with actuator failures. Firstly, a new closed-loop failure model was established by introducing the DETCS and adopting state feedback control strategy. Then, based on the Lyapunov stability theory and less-conservative technology, the sufficient condition of NNCS with robust H∞ guaranteed cost was derived, which was the time-delay/event-dependent approach, moreover, some optimal co-design methods between the fault tolerant controller and event-triggered weight matrix were given. Furthermore, the co-design problems of …

Analysis Of Lateral Force And Deviation Of Permanent Magnetic Levitation Belt Conveyor, Kun Hu, Wang Shuang, Yongcun Guo, Deyong Li

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: On the basis of reasonable assumptions, lateral force mathematical model of permanent magnetic levitation belt conveyor maglev support system was simulated. The simulation results showed that conveyor lateral force and offset could have a monotonically increasing relationship. If the belt shifted, it would cause an increase in lateral force, which could cause conveyor belt further deviation. The traditional physical anti-deviation measures couldn’t apply to non-contact suspension support. In order to effectively solve the permanent magnetic levitation belt conveyor deviation problem, an automatic offset device was designed and the corresponding control strategy was proposed. The value of the lateral …
