Delays in necessary restorative treatment may occur dependent on the patient’s finances or other elaborate dental treatment plans. Objective: Hand-wrist (HW) radiographs are considered the most accurate method for assessing pubertal growth spurts in orthodontics but have declined in use due to added radiation exposure and the expertise required. Cervical vertebral maturation staging (CVMS) is now commonly used, given the routine availability of lateral cephalograms. However, the validity of CVMS remains uncertain. A recent study reported only 66% inter-observer reliability across time periods (Ingersoll, 2024). This follow-up study aims to evaluate CVMS as a predictor of growth to guide clinical decision-making. The replacement of multiple teeth with dental implants in the posterior maxilla is challenging due to factors including low density bone and sinus morphology. When considering restoration of this region, prosthetic design will dictate implant placement. Additionally, planning must consider spacing between adjacent implants, spacing between implants and adjacent teeth, and irregular alveolar ridge morphology. These key measurements translate to the final prosthesis design and will affect cleanability and future oral hygiene maintenance. These characteristics subsequently affect overall longevity of the implants and prosthesis.

Essential workers were at increased risk during the COVID-19 pandemic, including seafood processors who are often rendered invisible within the public sphere. To examine the health and safety concerns of seafood processors, many who are low income or im/migrant workers on H-2B visas, our team conducted qualitative research with 44 participants. We found that in addition to high occupational health hazards that existed before the pandemic, COVID-19 increased workers' financial risks, which put them in more dangerous health and safety positions, since they needed to work through physical and mental health illness. Oral cancer is a major global health problem. It is commonly diagnosed at an advanced stage, although often preceded by clinically visible oral mucosal lesions, termed oral potentially malignant disorders, which are associated with an increased risk of oral cancer development. This study aimed to evaluate the short-term and long-term skeletal and dental asymmetry with miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE), rapid palatal expansion (RPE), and control group using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) analysis.

Methods

A total of 180 CBCT scans were analyzed for 60 patients divided into 3 groups: MARPE (mean age 13.7 ± 1.74 years), RPE (mean age 13.9 ± 1.14 years), and control (mean age 13.3 ± 1.49 years). Objectives

Although pre-treatment parameters for subtractive computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) materials have been thoroughly investigated, data regarding additive restorative materials designed for permanent use in the oral cavity are scarce. This study investigated the effects of abrasive materials and blasting pressure on the bond strength of 3D-printed resins used in permanent restorations.

Methods

Background: Oropharyngeal cancer is the eighth most common cancer among US men and its incidence is sharply rising. Oropharyngeal cancer manifests in two major ways: the classic form is prevalent among people who use alcohol and tobacco heavily, while a growing subset of incident cases is associated with human papillomavirus-16 (HPV) and transmitted via oral sex. Summary: Cells differentiate to their final fates along unique trajectories, often involving multi-potent progenitors that can produce multiple terminally differentiated cell types. Recent developments in single-cell transcriptomic and epigenomic measurement provide tremendous opportunities for mapping these trajectories. The visualization of single-cell data often relies on dimension reduction methods such as UMAP to simplify high-dimensional single-cell data down to an understandable 2D form. However, these dimension reduction methods are not constructed to allow direct interpretation of the reduced dimensions in terms of cell differentiation.
