Accidental contact of various chemicals in dentistry may cause damage to the gingiva. A male patient presented for a full mouth rehabilitation with ceramic crowns. The patient underwent the steps of ceramic crown preparation uneventfully. At the time of crown delivery, cotton rolls were placed in several vestibular areas for isolation. They were regularly changed during different steps of etching and cementation process, which included the use of Multilink Primer B (Ivoclar Vivadent™). On removal of the cotton roll in the area of upper right canine, the gingival tissues appeared blanched and grayish white. The cotton roll was found to …

Precision And Trueness Of Implant Placement With And Without Static Surgical Guides: An In Vitro Study, Arndt Guentsch, Laxmi Sukhtankar, Hongseok An, Paul Luepke
School of Dentistry Faculty Research and Publications
Statement of problem
Malpositioning of implants is one of the main factors leading to hard- and soft-tissue deficiencies. Whether static computer-guided implant placement increases accuracy and prevents malpositioning is unclear.
Purpose
The purpose of this in vitro study was to determine accuracy defined by trueness and precision (according to International Organization for Standardization 5725) of computer-assisted implant surgery (fully guided and partially guided) in comparison with freehand single implant placement.
Material and methods
Implants (n=20) were placed fully guided (sleeve-bone distance of 2, 4, or 6 mm), partially guided (guide used for pilot drill), or free hand in identical replicas …

Background
Syphilis is a sexually-transmitted infectious disease caused by Treponema pallidum. Cases of primary and secondary syphilis are on the rise in the United States, with a 14.4% increase in new cases noted from 2017 to 2018 and an escalation of 71% between the years 2014 and 2018. Fulfilling its nickname of “the great imitator,” oral manifestations of syphilis may mimic a variety of infectious, neoplastic, or immune-mediated processes, both clinically and histopathologically. This large spectrum of appearances can create a diagnostic challenge to the clinician and/or pathologist, leading to delay in diagnosis or misdiagnosis.

Comparison Of The Upper Airway Volume In Orthodontically Treated Cases With First Premolar Extractions, Krystal Park
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Introduction: Comprehensive orthodontic treatment often entails extraction of teeth to accomplish treatment goals. A potential side effect of extraction therapy is arch length shortening resulting in decreased space for the tongue which may cause a low tongue posture and a possible reduction in airway space. The purpose of the study was to retrospectively determine if extractions of all first premolars during orthodontic treatment and the resulting movement of mandibular incisors are correlated with a reduction in airway volume.
Materials and Methods: The T1 and T2 CBCT’s of 80 patients were collected and reviewed. The cases were divided into treatment (extraction) …

Effect Of Finishing And Polishing Techniques On The Fit Accuracy And Dimensions Of Conventional And Cad-Cam Removable Partial Denture Frameworks, Majed Altoman
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Rapid advancements in computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) in removable dental prosthodontics have offered new modalities for fabrication of removable partial denture frameworks. The standard tessellation language (STL) files of the scans are used to digitally design the removable partial denture (RPD) framework, which are then printed in cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) alloy and finished and polished according to manufacturers’ recommendations. There are few studies compare the fit accuracy of the cast DPD framework versus the CAD-CAM RPD frameworks which found that CAD-RP frameworks exhibited the highest discrepancies, using different methods of evaluation. Good fit between the denture base and the …

Purpose: This study investigated the bracket placement accuracy of a digital indirect bonding (dIDB) technique utilizing 3D-printed trays and the effects of dental crowding and tooth type on bracket placement accuracy.
Material and Methods: Thirty digital mandibular models of various amounts of arch length discrepancy (ALD) were categorized into 3 groups according to the amount of ALD. Digital bracket placement was performed from second molar to second molar using Indirect Bonding Studio (3ShapeTM, Copenhagen, Denmark) and this virtual model was used as the control. Indirect bonding trays were designed using Appliance Designer (3ShapeTM) and 3D-printed with the SprintRayTM …

The rehabilitation of complex cases in the anterior region of the maxilla may require knowledge of several dental specialties. when dental involvement also causes bone and gingival involvement, management usually requires adjustment of gingival zenitis and bone graft to compensate for bone loss.
Objective: to discuss a case of previous orthodontic treatment for implant-prosthetic rehabilitation in the anterior region.
Case report: This case report describes a 40-year-old patient who came with the intention of extracting the tooth and installing a bridge. The implant-prosthetic treatment was performed after previous orthodontic treatment to adapt the gingiva and space.
Conclusion: The interrelationship of …

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is an immunologically mediated mucocutaneous disease associated with various factors including systemic diseases, with a higher prevalence in females than males. The majority of OLP cases are accompanied by symptoms of discomfort and/or pain. Treatment of OLP can be challenging due to its unknown aetiology and involvement of multiple contributing factors.
Objective: Our aim is to report a long-term follow-up case of oral lichen planus with holistic management approach. This report will provide some options to clinicians who are having difficulties in managing OLP cases especially with the medications.
Case Report: This case report discusses a …

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Objective: To investigate buccal and lingual bone thicknesses and fenestration rate of mandibular first and second molars using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).
Methods: A total of CBCT images of 41 patients were selected and overall 120 mandibular molars were investigated. The buccal and lingual alveolar bone widths were measured at apex of the roots. The prevalence of fenestration in mandibular molars was recorded. Statistical analyses were performed.
Results: The buccal bone widths of mesial root of second molars were significantly lower than the lingual (p<0.05). The lingual bone widths of mesial and distal root of second molars were lower than the buccal (p<0.05). The lowest thickness of buccal and lingual bone was observed in mesial root of first molar and distal root of second molar. The prevalence of fenestration in mandibular first and second molars was 5% and 10%.
Conclusion: The buccal bone widths were lower at the first molar than the second molar. …

Maxillary Implant Placement In A Limited Residual Bone Height, Calvin Kurnia, Jane Amelia V. Wibisono, Dominica Dian S. Sumantri
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
The limitation of residual bone height (RBH) and vital structures such as sinuses in the maxillary often make the implant placement procedure becomes complicated. Clinicians may perform sinus elevation prior to implant placement to accommodate the length of the implant fixture. Sinus elevation is an invasive procedure and complication may occur during the surgery including the most frequent complication is perforation of Schneiderian membrane.
Objectives: To discuss a comprehensive management of implant placement and its complication step by step from surgical procedures to crown placement.
