Objective: to evaluate the effect of specialization and experience on treatment planning multidisciplinary cases. Materials and Methods: A survey presenting 7 clinical scenarios and their potential treatment plans was designed and disseminated electronically to five groups of dentists (general dentists, endodontists, prosthodontists, orthodontists, periodontists). 509 responses were collected and analyzed for distribution and levels of agreement. Results: A moderate kappa was found (k=0.4-0.6) between endodontists and periodontists and within endodontists. There was no agreement on the type of restorations that are used between different specialties and within specialties of different years of experience. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity, biocompatibility, and mineralization-inducing potential of calcium silicate-based pulp capping materials. Methods: Six contemporary calcium silicate-based pulp capping materials were compared in this study, including ProRoot MTA, MTA Angelus, Biodentine, EndoSequence, NeoMTA 2 and NeoPutty. The antibacterial effects of these materials against Streptococcus mutans UA159 and Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212 were determined by the agar-diffusion assay and the direct culture test. The biocompatibility and mineralization-inducing potential of these materials in preodontoblastic 17IIA11 cells were compared by the MTT assay and by evaluating alkaline phosphatase activity and calcium deposits, respectively. …

Purpose: To determine if behavior at consult visit and sedation medication dosages are associated with the success of sedation visits and patient’s behavior using the diazepam, meperidine, and hydroxyzine (DMH) regimen.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of 324 VCU Pediatric Dentistry Department patients who underwent 404 moderate conscious sedation visits with DMH regimen from April 2017 to June 2022. Sedation visits were graded as “Successful” or “Unsuccessful” and “Good” or “Poor behavior.” The primary variables of interest included Frankl behavior at consult visit and the sedation medication dosages. Introduction: E-cigarette use among middle and high school youth increased from 2. 5 million in 2014 to 9.2 million in 2019, becoming the most common tobacco product used among youth. Hispanic youth, the largest ethnic minority in the United States, have higher rates of tobacco use, including e-cigarettes, than non-Hispanics. Identifying factors that put youth at risk for future e-cigarette use is vital to focusing prevention efforts. Informed by social cognitive theory, this study identifies predictors of e-cigarette uptake among e-cigarette naïve youth in a predominantly low-income Hispanic community.

Objective: To measure translucency parameter, biaxial flexural strength, radiopacity and microstructure of various lithium disilicate materials used for dental restorations. Materials and Methods: CAD/CAM lithium disilicate glass-ceramic blocks: IPS e.max CAD (Ivoclar Vivadent), CerecTessera (Dentsply Sirona), and Amber Mill (Hassbio America) were used (shade A2, HT, and MT). งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อพัฒนาตัวชี้วัดที่ใช้ประเมินคุณภาพชีวิตในมิติสุขภาพช่องปากชนิด แบบประเมินผลกระทบของสุขภาพช่องปากสำหรับเท็มโพโรแมนดิบิวลาร์ดิสออเดอร์ ฉบับภาษาไทย และทดสอบคุณสมบัติการวัดทางจิตวิทยาของแบบประเมิน วิธีการวิจัยทำโดยการแปลแบบประเมินต้นฉบับภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทยและดัดแปลงข้ามวัฒนธรรม รวมถึงทดสอบความตรงเชิงเนื้อหาด้วยการหาค่าดัชนีความเที่ยงตรงของเนื้อหา โดยทันตแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านทันตกรรมบดเคี้ยวและความเจ็บปวดช่องปากใบหน้าจำนวน 5 ท่าน จากนั้นนำแบบประเมินไปทดสอบกับผู้ป่วยคนไทย แบ่งเป็นกลุ่มผู้ป่วยทีเอ็มดี 110 คน และกลุ่มผู้ป่วยที่ไม่มีภาวะทีเอ็มดีซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มควบคุม 110 คน การทดสอบความเที่ยงภายในใช้การคำนวณค่าสัมประสิทธิ์ครอนบาคแอลฟาจากคะแนน OHIP-TMDs ของกลุ่มผู้ป่วยทีเอ็มดี ทดสอบความตรงเชิงโครงสร้างด้วยวิธีการตรวจสอบจากกลุ่มที่แตกต่างกัน โดยประเมินความแตกต่างของคะแนนของ OHIP-TMDs ระหว่างผู้ป่วยทีเอ็มดีและกลุ่มควบคุม รวมถึงทดสอบความเที่ยงจากการทดสอบซ้ำโดยผู้ป่วยทีเอ็มดี 30 คน กำหนดระยะเวลาห่างกัน 2 วัน และใช้ค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์ภายในชั้นในการคำนวณ การทดสอบทั้งหมดจะกำหนดการทดสอบทางสถิติที่ระดับความเชื่อมั่นร้อยละ 95 ผลการวิจัยพบว่าแบบประเมินผลกระทบของสุขภาพช่องปากสำหรับเท็มโพโรแมนดิบิวลาร์ดิสออเดอร์ ฉบับภาษาไทยที่ถูกพัฒนาขึ้นมีคุณสมบัติการวัดทางจิตวิทยาที่ดี โดยแบบประเมินมีความตรงและความเที่ยงเมื่อนำมาศึกษาในผู้ป่วยคนไทย ซึ่งคะแนนของ OHIP-TMDs ระหว่างกลุ่มผู้ป่วยทีเอ็มดีและกลุ่มควบคุมแตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ แสดงถึงความตรงเชิงโครงสร้าง รวมถึงมีค่าดัชนีความเที่ยงตรงของเนื้อหาที่ระดับ 0.92 ค่าสัมประสิทธิ์ครอนบาคแอลฟาที่ระดับ 0.942 และค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์ภายในชั้นที่ระดับ 0.808 ดังนั้นแบบประเมิน OHIP-TMDs จึงมีแนวโน้มที่จะนำไปใช้ทางคลินิกสำหรับการประเมินและการจัดการภาวะทีเอ็มดีในกลุ่มผู้ป่วยคนไทยได้

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างสภาวะสุขภาพช่องปากและผลของการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพของผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดสมองที่โรงพยาบาลจุฬาลงกรณ์ สภากาชาดไทย มีผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดสมองระยะฟื้นฟูที่กลับมาติดตามอาการในช่วง 3 เดือน ยินยอมเข้าร่วมโครงการวิจัยทั้งสิ้น 86 ราย ผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดสมองจะได้รับการตรวจสภาวะสุขภาพช่องปาก ทำการสัมภาษณ์ข้อมูลทั่วไป ร่วมกับการเก็บข้อมูลในเวชระเบียนของผู้ป่วย ใช้สถิติเชิงพรรณนาอธิบายลักษณะของผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง และใช้สถิติสหสัมพันธ์แบบเพียร์สันและสเปียร์แมนวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างสภาวะสุขภาพช่องปากกับผลของการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพของผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง ที่ระดับนัยสำคัญ 0.05 สภาวะสุขภาพช่องปากประเมินจากจำนวนฟันธรรมชาติที่เหลืออยู่ จำนวนคู่สบฟันหลังและคะแนนแบบประเมินสภาวะสุขภาพช่องปากและฟันเทียมฉบับดัดแปลง ผลของการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพของผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดสมองจะประเมินจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงของคะแนนค่าความรุนแรงของโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง ผลการวิจัยพบว่าจำนวนฟันธรรมชาติที่เหลืออยู่และจำนวนคู่สบฟันหลังมีความสัมพันธ์อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติกับผลของการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพของผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดสมองพบความสัมพันธ์เป็นแบบสหสัมพันธ์เชิงลบ สรุปผลการวิจัย จำนวนฟันธรรมชาติที่เหลืออยู่และจำนวนคู่สบฟันหลังมีความสัมพันธ์กับผลของการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพของผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดสมองโดยพบความสัมพันธ์มีทิศทางตรงกันข้าม ผู้ป่วยที่มีจำนวนฟันธรรมชาติและจำนวนคู่สบฟันหลังที่มากสัมพันธ์กับค่าความรุนแรงของโรคหลอดเลือดสมองตอนผู้ป่วยออกจากโรงพยาบาลที่มีค่าความรุนแรงน้อยกว่า ผู้ป่วยจึงมีอาการเริ่มต้นไม่รุนแรงส่งผลให้มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงความรุนแรงของโรคน้อยกว่า การดูแลสภาวะสุขภาพช่องปากให้อยู่ในสภาพดีและการเก็บรักษาฟันธรรมชาติสภาพดีไว้ให้ได้มากที่สุดอาจจะเป็นปัจจัยร่วมปัจจัยหนึ่งในการลดความเสี่ยงความรุนแรงของโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง

The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the remineralization effect of the silver nanoparticles adjunctively to sodium fluoride varnish compared with other remineralizing agents on artificial root caries. Fifty-five root dentin slices size 5x5 mm were sectioned from extracted human teeth of patients aged 60 years old or more. All specimens were immersed in demineralized solution to create artificial caries.
