Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Soft tissue is one of many factors that influence the esthetic success of dental implants. This study explores soft tissue reaction between soft tissue covering bone grafted with xenograft and soft tissue in normal healing by analyzing the levels of inflammatory cytokine including TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8 and NF-kB1. Soft tissues are collected after 4 to 6 months of healing and analyzed by reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The result shows that the relative gene expression of TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8, and NF-kB1 are not significantly different in soft tissue covering xenograft compared to the ones in soft tissue covering …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In the event of proximal contact loss in a zirconia crown on an implant, the zirconia crown can be modified by adding porcelain to recreate the proximal contact. This study investigated the shear bond strength between translucent zirconia (4Y-PSZ) and veneering porcelain compared to conventional zirconia (3Y-TZP). Zirconia substructures were treated with airborne-particle abrasion with Al2O3. The results of the shear bond strength test were analyzed by One-way ANOVA and post-hoc comparisons with Tukey’s honest significant difference (HSD) test. The shear bond strengthranged from 21.87 and 27.79 MPa. The failure mode was mixed failure in all groups. From the results, …

Effects Of Intermittent Compressive Force On Extracellular Matrix Homeostasis Of Human Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells, Novena Dameria Pakpahan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Background: Mechanical force, caused by orthodontic tooth movement, affects periodontal tissue homeostasis including destruction and formation. For instance, the compression side causes bone resorption while bone formation lines in the tension side. Periodontal ligament cells play roles in modulating periodontal tissue homeostasis as well as regeneration via immunomodulation, proliferation, and migration. Extracellular matrix (ECM) is a cellular microenvironment that aids in cell migration, cell growth, and differentiation and serves as a physical barrier against microorganisms. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) plays a key role in the degradation of ECM, including collagen, gelatines, and casein. The MMP functions can be inhibited by tissue …

The current standard of care for treating chronic periodontitis is scaling and root planing (ScRP) followed by supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) (Cobb et al., 2021; Ramfjord et al., 1987). The goal of ScRP is to eliminate supra- and subgingival bacterial deposits and to reduce periodontal pathogens, inflammation, and pocket depths (Greenstein, 2000). Although ScRP has been shown to significantly improve baseline clinical parameters, moderate to advanced cases may require additional surgical therapy which many patients resist (Stambaugh, 1981; Becker et al., 2001). Currently, no dentifrice used adjunctively has been proven to increase the therapeutic effects of scaling and root planing. …

Watermelon stomach, also known as gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) syndrome, is a rare entity. Patients often present with profound unexplained anemia with or without bleeding externalization. We made the diagnosis during a digestive endoscopy for an etiological assessment of this anemia. Endoscopically, antral erythematous lesions in stripes with a punctate appearance, sometimes hemorrhagic, may suggest a watermelon stomach. The pathophysiology of the watermelon stomach remains complex and unclear. Although several pathologies remain implicated, sometimes, it can be idiopathic. The effectiveness of numerous treatments has been evaluated with relatively satisfactory results. This is a rare case of an idiopathic watermelon …
