Introduction: This study aimed to develop a 3-D finite elemental analysis (FEA) model and digitally incorporate a crack into this model. After model development, this study compared the load required to propagate this crack in a mandibular molar with 3 different endodontic cavity designs using FEA. Methods: 3-D printed mandibular first molars (Endo 3DP; Acadental, Lenexa, KS) were accessed with 3 different access cavities: a traditional access cavity (TRC), a ninja access cavity (NAC), and a truss access cavity (TUC). Objective: Recording the centric relation position is a critical step in diagnosis and treatment in prosthodontics. There are various methods that can be used to position a patient’s mandible into centric relation. Among these are: swallow technique (unguided closure), chin-point guidance, and bimanual manipulation. The precision of these methods has previously been studied by traditional methods. Data is lacking on the precision of virtual recordings of these methods taken by an intraoral scanner. Introduction: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of peri-cervical dentin conservation during root canal treatment on the longitudinal propagation of cracks, utilizing the finite element method. Methods: Two 3D printed mandibular molars were subjected to a simulated root canal therapy protocol. The teeth were divided into two test groups: Group 1: Instrumented with using Protaper Gold (PTG) rotary files. Group 2: Instrumented with using TruNatomy. Objective: Hard tissue outcomes after implant placement have been well documented. However, there is scarce evidence on immediate soft tissue and patient-centered outcomes. The aim of this prospective study is to quantify post-implant placement edema and to correlate it with oral health-related quality of life. Methods: Patients undergoing a standardized two-stage implant placement at a single tooth-bound site were recruited (n=26; 54.13.3 years, 14 males). An Osteoma Embedding An Ectopic Wisdom Tooth Within The Maxillary Sinus: A Rare Occurrence, Kayvan Fathimani Dds, Facs, Frcd(C), Fibcsoms

Osteomas are frequently reported in the maxillofacial region with much lower incidences in the maxillary and sphenoid sinuses. An unerupted third molar within the maxillary sinus coexisting with a maxillary sinus osteoma is an extremely rare pathologic finding. Such cases can be managed endoscopically or intraorally through a Caldwell-Luc approach. The following case report deals with a patient who presents with an uncommon pathological finding: an osteoma embedding an ectopic tooth within the maxillary sinus.

In this "10-Minute EBD" column, the authors explore a clinical question utilizing the evidence-based dentistry (EBD) process within orthodontic practice. The study aims to address whether frenectomy or no frenectomy is more effective in achieving successful closure of maxillary diastema in children undergoing orthodontic treatment with a high maxillary anterior labial frenum attachment. Employing a PICO question framework, the authors examined relevant literature through PubMed and Google Scholar, identifying five pertinent articles. People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH) have an increased life expectancy due to advances in antiretroviral therapy. In 1996, the life expectancy for a 20-year old living with HIV was 39-years old; today, it is >70-years old. As life expectancy increases, PLWH are burdened with age-associated comorbidities. This paper reviews the interaction between aging and HIV and how it affects social, physical, and oral health issues. The shift in demographics presents new challenges for clinicians in how to identify, address, and manage these complex manifestations. This review summarizes how to approach HIV-related changes when providing care as a dental clinician.

The current review aimed to assess the reliability and efficacy of tissue-engineered composite grafts in the reconstruction of large maxillofacial defects resulting from trauma or a benign pathologic disease. A systematic review of the literature was conducted using PubMed/Medline, Embase, and Scopus up to March 2022. The eligibility criteria included patients who had been treated with composite allogeneic tissue engineering for immediate/delayed reconstruction of large maxillofacial defects with minimum/no bone harvesting site. Phenotypic and functional heterogeneity of macrophages is clearly a critical component of their effective functions in innate and adaptive immunity. This investigation hypothesized that altered profiles of gene expression in gingival tissues in health, disease, and resolution would reflect changes in macrophage phenotypes occurring in these tissues. The study used a nonhuman primate model to evaluate gene expression profiles as footprints of macrophage variation using a longitudinal experimental model of ligature-induced periodontitis in animals from 3 to 23 years of age to identify aging effects on the gingival environment.
