Reliability Of Colour And Hardness Clinical Examinations In Detecting Dentine Caries Severity: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis., Larry Hon, Ahmed Mohamed, Edward Lynch

Dental Medicine Faculty Publications

Dental caries is the most common human infectious disease and is caused by microorganisms producing acids, resulting in changes in dental tissue hardness and colour. However, the accuracy and reliability of dentine colour and hardness as indicators for carious lesion severity has never been assessed in a systematic review. By applying strict criteria, only seven papers (five randomized control trials and two diagnostic studies) were considered for full text qualitative and quantitative assessment. Only three studies produced high quality evidence and only four articles were considered for meta-analysis, as these provided log10 colony forming units (CFU) data from caries biopsies …

In-Vitro Evaluation Of Accuracy Of Conventional And Cad/Cam Removable Partial Denture Frameworks, Pooya Soltanzadeh

Pooya Soltanzadeh, DDS, MS

Purpose: Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology is gaining popularity in dentistry, and more recently, to fabricate removable partial dentures (RPD). The purpose of this study was 1) to evaluate the overall accuracy and fit of conventional versus CAD/CAM fabricated printed RPD frameworks based on STL data analysis, and 2) to evaluate the accuracy and fit of each component of the RPD framework. Materials and Methods: A maxillary metal framework was designed for a Kennedy class III modification I situation. The master model was scanned and used to compare the fit and accuracy of the RPD frameworks. A total of 40 …

Objectives

The aim of this study was to examine the association of food insecurity on the prevalence of dental caries in preschool children.

Methods

Eighty-two children, aged 12-71 months old, from the Marquette University School of Dentistry Community South Clinic and their caregivers participated in this cross-sectional study. Following informed consent, parents completed the validated six-item US Department of Agriculture food insecurity questionnaire and questions regarding demographic information and family structure. Upon clinical examination caries was recorded using the decayed, missing, filled teeth (dmft) index based on the International Caries Detection and Assessment System criteria.

Results

Utilization Of Rectangular Collimation In Dental And Dental Hygiene Programs, Elizabeth Ann Wagner 2019 University of New Mexico

Utilization Of Rectangular Collimation In Dental And Dental Hygiene Programs, Elizabeth Ann Wagner

Dental Hygiene ETDs

Rectangular collimation has proven to reduce the radiation dose to the patient as well as increase image quality. Studies have been conducted in the past to determine whether utilization of rectangular collimation results in a greater retake rate, however, there is a lack of data regarding the amount of rectangular collimation devices that are currently in use. The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent, if any, rectangular collimators are being utilized in dental and dental hygiene programs. A survey was created and sent via email to the program directors of Accredited dental and dental hygiene programs. …
