Unfortunately, variation between individuals makes growth prediction complicated and difficult. This article is to discuss two skeletal Class II cases had unexpected growth and transferred into skeletal Class III during growth. Summary: An adult male (20 years old) came to our clinic with a chief complaint of lower posterior crowding. Clinical examination found mild spacing over the lower anterior teeth and lingually blocked-in lower second premolars. Because the patient didn’t want to receive extraction treatment, ISW (improved superelastic Ti-Ni alloy wire) leveling was performed to relieve lower arch crowding. Sufficient space was created by distalization with open coil spring and crimpable stopper. With ISW MEAW-like wire as reinforced anchorage over the lower arch, a satisfactory result was obtained. Posterior crossbite is a common malocclusion in the deciduous or mixed dentition. Various techniques of posterior crossbite correction have been suggested, including rapid maxillary expansion, slow expansion with a quad-helix appliance or removable expansion plate, grinding, and composite onlay. The aim of this article is to review the fabrication, clinical adjustment, advantages and disadvantages, and functions of the quad-helix appliance.

A young male (14 years old) came to our clinic with a chief complaint of maxillary protrusion and not being able to chew food well with his right posterior teeth. Clinical examination revealed Class II division 1 malocclusion with unilateral scissors bite on the right side. When we notice missing maxillary incisors, how to restore the extraction site is a difficult decision. Usually, we restore this kind of tooth with conventional fixed partial denture or implant prosthesis. However, some literatures present another solution: tooth substitution with proximal tooth by orthodontic force. In this paper, we put together few cases treated in Chi-mei orthodontic department, and we also discover some problems in the process of the orthodontic treatment. Hence, if we meet a case alike to these, the experiences we had can help to improve the orthodontic results.

During orthodontic tooth movement, bone remodeling is induced by mechanical stimulation. The mechanical regulation to stimulate the activities of osteoblasts and osteoclasts is a focus of bone studies, which also got more attention in orthodontics recently. Members of matrix metalloproteinase family (MMP) were found to be closely related to the bone remodeling during orthodontic treatment. Some studies proposed that the matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) is related to bone resorption because the gene expression of MMP-3 was increased by orthodontic force at the compression site. The etiology of skeletal Class II malocclusion may include excessive growth of the maxilla, deficient growth of the mandible, or the combination of both. Oral habits such as mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, and thumb sucking can cause anterior open bite. Meanwhile, the vertical overgrowth of posterior dentoalveoalr process may be another contributory factor. The treatment options for skeletal Class II malocclusion with anterior open bite should be planned according to the discrepancy of the inter-jaw relationship. The etiology of Angle’s Class II malocclusion are: 1.maxillary protrusion, 2.mandibular retrusion, 3.combination of both. The therapeutic methods of Angle’s Class II malocclusion with mandibular retrusion by using the functional appliance will correct neuromuscular dysfunction, remodeling of the glenoid fossa and enhancement of condyle growth by anterior positioning of mandible. In this case report will present a patient of Angle’s Class II malocclusion with mandibular retrusion. By using multiple functional appliances during active growth period to improve mandible forward positioned and the maxilla-mandible relation is altered. A stable mini-implant provides a splendid orthodontic anchorage, which leads a profound influence to the treatment course. This study used finite element method, with a molar and premolar on the posterior mandible by computerized simulation, to investigate the biomechanical effects of the orthodontic mini-implant. Factorial analyses were performed including the cortical bone thickness, the diameter of the mini-implant and angle of the orthodontic force. The results showed that the diameter of the mini-implant affected the stress distribution on the cortical bone. All parameters had significantly effects on the cancellous bone stresses. The main characteristics of craniosynostosis were premature fusion of cranial sutures with specific skull shapes. There are divided into nonsyndromic and syndromic craniosynostosis. Syndromic craniosynostosis (SCS) was an inherited congenital craniofacial disorder and approximately 15% of craniosynostosis had associated anomalies in the face and limbs. Crouzon syndrome, Apert syndrome, Pfeiffer syndrome and Jackson-Weiss syndrome were the examples of SCS. A case of mandibular prognathism with facial asymmetry was presented. The missing left central incisor was previously restored with a compromising cantilever bridge. Interdisciplinary approach including orthodontics, orthognathic surgery, and prosthetic dentistry was performed and gave patient a better esthetic and functional result. Ways to achieve better esthetics, evaluation and possibility of surgery-first orthognathic approach, and other possible treatment options were discussed.

Facial asymmetry may originate from mandibular deviation combined with secondary maxillary compensation in vertical dimension, which can lead to occlusal plan canting. Two-jaw surgery would be an ideal choice for these cases in the past. Nowadays, using mini-implants to intrude elongated maxillary teeth to correct the occlusal plane canting could simplify the surgical plan into one-jaw surgery. The aims of this retrospective cephalometric study were to assess the results of presurgical treatment on the subjects presenting with Class III malocclusion and to evaluate the correlation between soft and hard tissues. Initial (T0) and presurgical (T1) lateral cephalograms of 17 patients were examined. Mean age was 20.4 years initially. Subjects were treated with presurgical orthodontic treatment. Initial and presurgical variables were compared using paired t-test, and the relationship of soft and hard tissue variables was studied using Pearson correlation coefficient and linear regression equation. Cleidocranio-dysplasia is an autosomal dominant disease. RUNX2(CBFA1) is the only gene known to be associated with CCD. The clinical characteristic of skeletal dysplasia including delayed or ectopic eruption of permanent teeth, multiple supernumanary teeth, delayed resorption of primary root, dilacerations of permanent and supernumanary teeth, malocclusion with skeletal discrepancy. Diagnosis of CCD in dental clinic due to oral phenomenens happened usually. This paper would systemically reviewed the genetic and pathological mechanism of CCD.
