Material and Methods: 78 patients having symptomatic irreversible pulpitis in mandibular first molar with no periapical involvement. ProTaper Next rotary files were used for root canal preparation, then randomized into three equal groups according to the technique used for final irrigation agitation technique where each group have 26 cases (n=26 ) . Group A: received irrigation with 2.6% sodium hypochlorite with NaviTip (31-gauge 27 mm) with double side port irrigator tip (SVN) without …

The Antibacterial Effect And The Incidence Of Post-Operative Pain After The Application Of Nano-Based Intracanal Medications During Endodontic Retreatment: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial, Shehabeldin Mohamed Saber Prof.Dr.

Dentistry

Objective: This clinical trial aimed to evaluate the effect of nano-silver and nano-calcium hydroxide intracanal medicaments (ICM) during retreatment regarding their antibacterial effect and their effect on post-operative pain and flare-ups. Materials and methods: Sixty-nine patients scheduled for endodontic retreatment were included in this randomized clinical trial and randomly allocated to 3 equal groups (n = 23) according to the type of ICM used. The first microbial sampling (S1) representing the original microbiota was obtained after the removal of the old canal filling. After chemo-mechanical debridement, another sample (S2) was obtained representing the microbial state before ICM application. Patients were …

Outcome Of Vital Pulp Therapy On Immature Permanent Teeth With Calcium Silicate-Based Materials: Retrospective Cohort Study, Brian I. Hone

Theses and Dissertations

Introduction: The purpose of vital pulp therapy is to maintain pulp viability by eliminating bacteria from the dentin-pulp complex and to establish an environment in which apexogenesis can occur. The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of vital pulp therapy on immature permanent teeth using different calcium silicate-based materials. Methods: This study was carried out in the Virginia Commonwealth University Graduate Endodontics department in Richmond, Virginia. Vital pulp therapy cases performed by graduate endodontic residents were retrospectively searched and charts were reviewed to determine inclusion into this study. All cases …

Characteristics Of Posterior Permanent Teeth With A Periradicular Diagnosis Of Symptomatic Apical Periodontitis: A Retrospective Study, Christina A. Martin

Theses and Dissertations

The diagnosis of apical periodontitis is based on radiographic manifestations and the results of the various clinical tests that can be performed as part of a routine dental examination. Apical periodontitis producing clinical symptoms involving a painful response to biting and/or percussion or palpation is given the diagnosis of symptomatic apical periodontitis (SAP). This study aimed to determine associations of SAP with gender, age, radiographic findings, diagnostic testing, pulpal diagnosis, and location of the tooth in the arch. Data for this study were obtained from patients of record treated at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in the Department of …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Introduction: Pain control during endodontic access is important to ensure patient comfort. Achieving adequate anesthesia in an acutely inflamed mandibular molar poses a treatment challenge as the reported failure rate is 30- 83%. A number of pre-medications, anesthetic techniques and adjuncts have been researched to determine their effect on the anesthetic success of the inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB). The purpose of this research was to describe the current clinical practices used by the members of the American Association of Endodontists in pain control of inflamed mandibular molars.

Methods: A cross-sectional observational study design was used. The study …

The aim of the present study was to assess cracks at root ends after resection with conventional versus ultrasonic techniques. Material and Methodology: Thirty-two extracted human lower premolar teeth with single root were used. Their root canals were prepared and received gutta-percha. Sixteen roots Group 1 were resected using tungsten carbide fissure burs, while …
