"For patients receiving orthodontic care, is an AI-generated treatment plan as likely to achieve acceptable outcomes?" Orthodontic treatment planning is a complex and time-consuming process that requires a high degree of expertise. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to assist orthodontists in this process by automating some of the tasks involved, such as cephalometric analysis, surgery decisions, extraction decisions, and anchorage decisions.

The Rome Call for AI Ethics emphasizes ethical, non-biased AI development. In the broader context, AI-driven marketing and predictive behavior raise concerns about privacy and ethical data use. The dental community must embrace AI's power while upholding ethical standards and transparency.

COVID-19 has necessitated creative adaptions to educational environments. At the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, the school’s annual Spring research, clinical and community health showcase quickly morphed from the traditional face-to-face format to an online, virtually graded awards showcase with an online gallery website promoting sharing of the school community’s scholarship. This paper presents the results of a case study about the perceptions of oral health care, factors that influenced current oral health, and barriers to dental attention of two older adults; the study was conducted by researchers from a hospital-school of dentistry at a public university in Mexico. Two adults aged 64 and 70 years participated in this study. First, the oral health status was clinically evaluated using the Decayed/Missing/Filled/Teeth (DMFT) Index. Background: Untreated caries (UC), although highly prevalent, is largely preventable. Information on the contribution of different teeth to UC prevalence and severity could be helpful in evaluating UC surveillance protocols and the relative benefits of caries prevention interventions.

Introduction: Prescription and nonprescription opioid misuse and the rising number of dental visits in emergency departments (EDs) are growing public health concerns in the US. Our study objective was to examine the relationship between prescription analgesics (opioids and nonopioids) and the type of ED visits (dental and nondental) at the national level.

Objective: To synthesize English or Spanish-language literature on community health workers’ (CHWs’) roles, training, and impact in oral health. Basic research design: A scoping review conducted in accordance with the Arksey and O’Malley (2005) methodological framework. Method: Electronic literature searches were conducted in Medline (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), DOSS, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Global Health CAB from inception of the databases to April 2020. Purpose: The purpose of this pilot study was to determine perceptions of Virginia (VA) dentists toward mid-level dental providers, specifically dental therapists (DT), and determine whether membership in the American Dental Association (ADA) membership affected attitudes.

Methods: A convenience sample of 1208 dentists in the state of VA were invited to participate in an electronic survey. The instrument consisted of 11 Likert type scale questions assessing attitudes toward DTs. Purpose: Workplace burnout in academia is a problem that affects career satisfaction and longevity. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of burnout among entry-level dental hygiene program directors.

Methods: The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI) survey was used to determine prevalence of burnout in 325 dental hygiene program directors from across the United States. The survey was disseminated electronically. The CBI contains 19 questions that measure overall, personal, work-related, and client/student-related burnout on a five-point Likert type scale.
