A single cropping system with 1-year-old rootstocks by forcing culture has been proposed for white asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) production in Japan. To develop a method to control the sprouting period for such a cropping system, we investigated the effects of low oxygen (O2), high carbon dioxide (CO2), and a combination of these on the sprouting of asparagus spears, using a laboratory-scale test. Rice is one of the most important crop plants as well as a model organism used for genetic studies. Transposons, especially retrotransposons, have a significant impact on the rice genome. A considerable percentage of the rice genome is composed of transposons (about 35%). Thus, transposons are an important internal factor for the genome evolution of rice varieties. In this study, we performed fing?erprint analyses of 37 Oryza sativa L. Cultivars using an IRAP marker. The effects of two different types of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) on the physicochemical properties, biochemical composition, and storage quality of sweet pomegranate variety Beynarı were investigated during long-term storage. Pomegranates were harvested at the commercial harvest stage and packed in two different commercial types of MAP (MAP1, sealed in packages made of Xtend® film; MAP2, sealed in bags made of ZOEPAC). This investigation was aimed to evaluate 22 promising vegetable amaranth genotypes for antioxidant, leaf quality, and agronomic traits for two test seasons. The experiment was conducted to study the degree of genetic parameters, associations among different traits, and their contribution towards foliage yield. The analysis of variance for twelve traits was found highly significant. High mean, high range of variability, and high genotypic variance were observed for all the traits except content of Ca, protein, and carotenoid. Use of organic manures for soil amendment has gained renewed attention with growing concerns about sustaining soil productivity. A greenhouse study was carried out to determine the influence of different soil amendments, namely poultry manure (PM), cattle manure (CM), and sulfur (S), on soil P status. The application rates were 0, 4, and 8 t ha-1 for PM; 0, 20, and 40 t ha-1 for CM; and 0, 0.75, and 1.5 t ha-1 for S treatments. Improved phytochemicals and antioxidant properties in crops are becoming important traits in many breeding programs. In this study, along with several other horticultural attributes, total phenolic content (TP) and antioxidant capacity (ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) and Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC)) of 52 superior pepper genotypes from the Alata Pepper Breeding Program were examined. The fruits from these plants were harvested at immature and mature stages. Oil-bearing rose (Rosa damascena Mill.) is one of the most strongly scented rose species used in the perfumery and cosmetics industries. This research ultimately aimed to reveal the variation in and evaluate the breeding potential of plants whose seeds were derived from R. damascena, which has only been propagated vegetatively for centuries. We studied 200 trees belonging to 20 accessions of cultivated olive (O. europaea L.) from 4 regions of origin, evaluated by means of agromorphological traits and simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. The agromorphological traits showed high variation between genotypes and significant correlation coefficients were obtained among the values recorded in two consecutive years, 2013 and 2014. The maximum coefficient of variation for the quantitative agronomic traits was observed in fruit weight wet (13.45%), while the lowest was found in stone width (3.18%). Two selected mutant lines, C26 and C82, with highly significant 1000-seed weight and generated through irradiation treatment of Amaranthus cruentus L. 'Ficha', were evaluated and compared to an original nontreated control and reference variety Aztec. The phenotypic traits and biochemical properties of the amaranth seeds were studied. Comparable values for crude protein content, albumins, and globulins fractions and overall coefficients of nutritional quality were found in the evaluated samples. However, C26 showed significantly lower concentrations of celiac-related prolamins and glutelins in comparison with the control sample. Salt stress during germination degenerates crop establishment and declines yield in wheat (Triticum subsp.). Against salt (NaCl) stress, we investigated 12 bread (Triticum aestivum L.) and 10 einkorn wheat (T. monococcum subsp. monococcum) entries for germination rate, germinating power, coleoptile length, shoot length, root length, shoot/root length ratio, root fresh weight, root dry weight, and root fresh/dry weigh ratio. An effective blocking in variance analysis improved statistical significance and differentiation between germination stages and wheat entries. In Turkey, Hicaznar, which was originally developed through selective breeding, is the most highly produced and exported cultivar. To isolate lines with improved productivity and quality, Hicaznar was selfed, open-pollinated, or crossed with the sweet pomegranate cultivars Ernar and Fellahyemez.
