Ten different Persian walnut cultivars were examined for their compositional data, including eight Hungarian and two introduced varieties. Oil content and fatty acid composition were determined, as well as oxidative stability (indicated by induction time). Antioxidative capacity, total polyphenol measurements, and individual phenolic compounds were also determined. Not only dry samples but fresh and stored samples were included in this study. Large differences were found among the varieties within these parameters, for example in oxidative stability, which contributes to antioxidative capacity. In the present study, five different grapes varieties grown in Turkey were comprehensively characterized in terms of physicochemical properties, total bioactive content, antiradical activity, and volatile sugar compounds. Thermal degradation kinetics of anthocyanin in the selected grape varieties were also analyzed. All the bioactive compounds and antiradical activity varied depending on variety and grape part (skin, pulp, or seed). Higher amounts of total phenolics, total flavonoids, anthocyanin, and antiradical capacity were obtained from seeds. Fifty-nine volatile compounds were observed in the grape varieties. Genetic variation is a key to successful crop improvement. This study was conducted to evaluate a set of 48 accessions and two controls of hexaploid winter wheat from the gene bank of the Genetic Resources Institute (Azerbaijan) to examine genotypic variation for 11 morphophysiological traits under saline and nonsaline conditions. These accessions belonged to five different botanical groups collected from eight districts in Azerbaijan. Growth, oil yield, and carvacrol content in Thymbra spicata L. Var. Spicata microshoots were analyzed after 12 weeks of storage in MS media supplemented with elevated levels (0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4 M) of three osmotic agents (sucrose, sorbitol, and mannitol) or ABA (0.0, 3.8, 7.6, and 11.4 μM). The obtained results revealed that using 0.2 M sucrose in the storage media yielded the best results in terms of growth reduction during conservation as well as maintenance of microshoot recovery at full capacity (100%) after conservation. Ips sexdentatus (Boerner) and I. Typographus (Linnaeus) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) are considered to be important destructive pests of coniferous forests in Europe and Asia. In this study, the efficacy of Beauveria pseudobassiana strain ARSEF 9271 isolated from Dendroctonus micans (Kugelann) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) was evaluated against I. Sexdentatus and I. Typographus adults. Insects were treated with different conidial concentrations of the fungus to determine the virulence. A conidial suspension of 1 × 108 conidia mL-1 caused 100% mortality in both I. Sexdentatus and I. Typographus within 5 and 7 days, respectively. In this study, we aimed to compare fatty acid and volatile compound compositions of four rosehip species, namely Rosa pimpinellifolia, R. Villosa, R. Canina, and R. Dumalis, by gas chromatography with flame ionization detector (GC/FID) and headspace and immersion solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME/GC-MS and Im-SPME/GC-MS) techniques. The total lipid contents in fruits of the rosehip species varied from 5.83% (R. Villosa) to 7.84% (R. Dumalis). A total of 21 fatty acids were detected and quantified. In all species, except R. Blackberry is commonly used both in the fresh and the processing market. In the present study antioxidant capacity, organic acids, phenolic compounds, vitamin C, and sugars content of blackberry cultivars grown in the east of Turkey were determined. Phenolic compounds, organic acids, vitamin C, and sugars were determined by HPLC. Antioxidant capacity was determined by spectrophotometric methods. The cultivar Cherokee had the highest antioxidant capacity (48.900 μmol TE g-1), and the cultivar Jumbo had the lowest antioxidant capacity (30.855 μmol TE g-1). The genetic diversity of Turkish watermelon genotypes selected from the watermelon genetic resource collection was evaluated by simple sequence repeat (SSR) and sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers. Most of the accessions were collected from various geographical regions of Turkey. Different Citrullus species, wild relatives, foreign landraces, open pollinated (OP), and commercial hybrid cultivars were also assessed for genetic relatedness. Fourteen SSR primers and 31 SRAP primer combinations were used in the experiment. Both SSR markers (100%) and SRAP markers (97.3%) generated high polymorphisms. Calosoma sycophanta L. (Coleoptera: Carabidae) is a voracious predatory beetle that feeds on several important lepidopteran pests. It is mass reared in laboratory breeding and released against forest pests. Any infection in this beetle is undesirable because it impacts production of effective and healthy beetles. In the present study, a microsporidian pathogen was found in C. sycophanta. Mature spores of the pathogen are single, uninucleate, oval, and small, measuring about 3.04 × 1.7 µm. Lead (Pb) is one of the most toxic and persistent elements, with no known biological role. High concentrations of lead enter saline soils through anthropogenic activities and industrial waste. The decontamination of Pb polluted sites through phytoremediation, especially by using woody plants, is an attractive approach. Eucalyptus camaldulensis is a good accumulator of Pb and a recommended tree species for reclamation of saline soils. However, there is very limited knowledge about the Pb-uptake behavior of Eucalyptus camaldulensis under saline conditions.
