The purpose of this mixed method study was to assess the effectiveness of agricultural communications curriculum developed and incorporated into a semester-long agricultural leadership and communications course for secondary agricultural education programs in Arkansas. This study was comprised of three parts including a pilot test, teacher training assessment, and a descriptive field test over a two-year period. For the pilot test portion of the study, students (N = 297) participated in newly developed instructional modules (careers, writing, design, and multimedia) predetermined by a committee of agricultural education and communications faculty at the University of Arkansas. The main purpose of this research was to identify strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats associated with information marketing and appropriate strategies for the development of information marketing in Iranian Faculties of Agriculture. The research population consisted of all staff employed in central libraries of in the selected Faculties of Agriculture (Universities of Tehran, Ferdowsi of Mashhad, Shiraz, Tabriz and Isfahan technology) (N=107). The respondents selected by census sampling method so that ultimately number of 90 questionnaires obtained (n=90). According to the findings, the majority of respondents (72.3%) has a positive and very positive attitude to applying information marketing factors. …

This study focused on testing the effects of agricultural education on urban high school students’ career choices. It looked into how students view agriculture, how they perceive their peers view agriculture, how their demographics are related to career choice, and if their career choice was changed to a different career upon completion of the study. The study showed a positive relationship between completing an agricultural education class in animal science and interest in going into an agricultural career. This paper shares challenges faced and overcome by four African American women on their 2013 journey to secure USDA’s Produce Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) Harmonized Food Safety Standards with the Global Addendum (Global Markets Primary Production Assessments: GMPPA). Collaboration, consistent training, and technical support from the Tuskegee University Extension and Research staff, and the Small Farmers Agricultural Cooperative undergirded the preparation of the farms for GAPs Certification. The timely sharing of staff expertise and experience from commercial partners (Walmart, Purivida, C.H. Robinson, W.P. Rawls), and support from the USDA (Strike Force Initiative) were important contributors to the positive outcomes described. …

The Sustainable Agriculture Consortium for Historically Disadvantaged Farmers Program (SACH) was designed to carry out an experiment by five 1890 Land-Grant Universities in partnership with five farmer based cooperatives in five states to assess marketing fruits and vegetables to Walmart from a regional perspective. Using the Consortium as a case study, this study assessed the Consortium within the framework of implementation evaluation; data were collected using semi-structured interviews and document analysis. The Walmart Initiative was designed to provide technical support to train at least 200 farmers on best practices in marketing produce to larger companies and corporations like Walmart. This support was provided through specialized training, workshops, informational group meetings, and overall awareness of market opportunities. The specialized training included Food Safety Standards and Food Safety Certification requirements, effective production techniques, harvesting, grading, packaging, refrigeration/cold chain requirements, transportation, fiscal responsibility, financial management, record-keeping, and insurance and product liability. This internship/project report includes validation documents required in meeting the quality criteria for secondary-level programs of instruction in agriculture. The documents are concurrently used for the Agriculture Incentive Grant review process at Anderson Union High School conducted by representatives of the California Department of Education. The internship included the practical application of occupational skills related to the horticulture industry and modification to the Greenhouse facilities at Anderson Union High School by improving ergonomics of greenhouse tables, replacing the existing siding of storage facilities and installing concrete walkways within the greenhouse. Minorities and women continue to be underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. In graduate education, factors such as racism, prejudice, discrimination, sexism, stereotypes, tokenism, and a lack of role models can all plague students and contribute to uncompleted degrees and non-entrance into STEM fields. One of the tools being used to combat these barriers is effective mentoring. The Purpose of this project was to create a handbook that could be used by high school agricultural programs to implement grafting of tomatoes. It could be used as a Supervised Agricultural Experience entrepreneurship project for a student or a fundraiser for the high school program as a whole. The handbook provides a resource with step-by-step procedures for the entire process grafting tomatoes entails. It is hoped that the handbook gives guidance but also leaves room for interpretation for educational purposes.

The purposed of this project was to identify and compile California regulations that affect rice growers. The final product was an index designed for rice growers and their representatives to be used lobbying efforts with regulators and elected officials. The index serves to illustrate the intensive regulations that rice growers face in California. Areas of focus include water quality, air quality, labor and pesticides indirectly.

Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) and extensions such as Transformative Learning Theory offer significant potential for skill development later in life – reskilling. Despite wide acceptance and deployment, practitioners are still obliged to design their own methods and activities in order to implement these theories. This paper introduces a novel curricular model, Active Development of Tacit Knowledge (ADTK). Educators can use ADTK to effectively implement and scale ELT. Objective: In this study the state of inclusion within North Carolina Secondary Agricultural Education programming was examined. Background: In 2012 The North Carolina State Board of Education established a vision of assuring a strong, flexible, and sound educational system that serves all students and additionally promotes the public interest. This vision includes its secondary agricultural education programs as well. Methodology: The research design for this study consisted of a descriptive survey research design, encompassing a random sample of 196 North Carolina Secondary Agricultural Educators. The final return rate yielded a usable sample of 90 respondents (45% return rate). Findings: North …
