Party registration was the factor most associated with the mayoral vote, according to an analysis of survey data collected by CAUR in the five days preceding the May 10, 1977 election.¹ Although the pattern of votes in the non-partisan mayoral election was also associated with sex, geographical area, and age, the relationship was strongest for party registration. Radial Freeways And The Growth Of Office Space In Central Cities, Armin K. Ludwig

Seven metropolitan areas were studied to determine the impact of freeways upon the location of office development and to estimate the economic impact of this development upon the community. Findings indicated a suburbanization of office space. New locations were heavily influenced by radial freeway corridors although circumferential corridors were proportionately more attractive (1970-1976 office site growth rates of 562% and 273% respectively, with 101% for non-interstate radial corridors). Freeways which increased accessibility of office workers and improved access to vacant land tended to attract office development; investment funds often were more readily available for radial freeway sites. American society is a very mobile one, with approximately twenty percent of the populace changing its place of residence every year. It has been estimated that over two-thirds of all moves take place within the city. Geographic studies of intra-urban migration generally treat the relocations as either 1) movement from one areal unit to another, such as inter-census tract flows, or as 2) individual-level, unrelated moves between respective origins and destinations. In reality, however, each change of residence is one part of a much longer sequence of changes.

With the cooperation of the Economic Development Council of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, the Center for Applied Urban Research in 1973 began to monitor economic and demographic data for six subareas of the greater Omaha area. In 1975 the economic data collection was expanded to include a total of 25 metropolitan areas located in the eleven-state Midcontinent Region. During the third quarter of 1976, Midcontinent metropolitan areas experienced the most universal decline in unemployment rates since the monitoring system was initiated for the fourth quarter of 1975. September unemployment rates in all 25 areas were lower than the United States rate, which declined from 8.1 percent during September of 1975 to 7.4 during September of 1976. Children in grades one through six who were identified as children from migrant agricultural families in a specific country in South Central Kentucky were compared to non-migrant children in the same specific county. A determination of the educational needs of these migrant children was made by a comparison of their standardized test scores to similar test scores of children from non-migrant families in the areas of Reading, Math, AND Total Battery scores. Resultant data from the test scores indicated that migrant children generally do not have achieve as high academically in the areas tested as do children from non-migrant families. …

The first half of 1976 was a period of steady economic growth in Omaha. Among the strongest indicators of economic advancement are those in construction activity. The number of single-family building permits increased from 385 units during the first quarter of 1976 to 453 units during the second quarter of 1976. Preliminary crime data (1975) provided the basis for analysis of variations in major crime among cities of the MidContinent Region. The Uniform Crime Reports measure seven Crime Index Offenses: murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft. Remaining criminal offenses were not considered in this study. Crime rates per 100,000 population were compiled using the FBI Uniform Crime Reports and current population estimates (Table 1 ).

The terms "social work," "casework," and "counseling" signify similar but separate professions, occupations, and techniques. Their places within the spectrum of community or helping services are clarified by a discussion of relevant literature. Based on these perspectives, a survey of 104 local helping service agencies and organizations was under taken to establish employment qualifications (educational, experiential, professional) for the helping professions. Follow-up was done in 10 situations where Master's Degrees in Social Work, Counseling, and Psychology were required for employment—to determine the particular value of the degree for the specific position.
