In May 1948, the United Nations launched its first peacekeeping mission named the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO). Since this first mission, the United Nations has launched over 70 peacekeeping missions in regions such as Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa (Bellamy and Williams, 2015). The overarching goal of the United Nations, and the Security Council as the organ responsible for authorizing peacekeeping missions, is to protect international peace (United Nations, 1945a). This dissertation investigates the political causes and consequences of cultural censorship. One of the central arguments of this project is that cultural censorship is often a response to citizen demand. Using a mixed methods approach, this dissertation explores the demand for censorship and benefits a regime receives from censoring citizens in an effort to understand the calculus of cultural censorship. This project focuses on the Americas and looks at censorship in both democracies and autocracies across time. During the Northern Ugandan War, the Lord’s Resistance Army kidnapped and recruited 30,000 children and forced them to become soldiers. Nearly twenty years since the end of the war, former child soldiers continue to experience extreme poverty, psychological distress, and social isolation. For many, the economic hardship they face, due to stigma and missing out on school, is their greatest challenge upon returning home. This paper analyzes the strategies used by the government and non-state actors to reintegrate former child soldiers back into the Ugandan economy. The Role Of Symbolic Politics In Shaping Political Attitudes: A Study Of Trump And Biden's Campaign Speeches, Nimra Asif

In this study, five speeches by Donald Trump and six by Joe Biden were comprehensively analyzed for their symbolic politics on immigration and social issues. The data revealed a consistent trend, with Trump featuring a greater number of mentions in comparison to Biden—66 and 26, respectively. Furthermore, Trump's symbolic politics exhibited a predominantly negative tone, while Biden's approach was predominantly positive. The results of this analysis confirm my hypotheses, highlighting notable disparities in the rhetoric employed by each candidate. Trump amplified a negative outlook on social issues and immigration, whereas Biden strategically mentioned and positively framed these issues. This research …

There is a low percentage of BIPOC women in politics; however, the majority of them are in Divine 9 sororities. I'll find a correlation between the principles of the Divine Nine and these upstanding women in society through various interviews with women in local politics who are also in the Divine Nine. Furthermore, this will enable political scientists to assess the motivation of these women and the attributes that these sororities have given them to achieve success.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy's public diplomacy during the Russo-Ukrainian conflict was examined in this dissertation. Zelenskyy’s discourse emphasized his action-oriented traits, Ukrainian identity, and nationalism. The study employed LTA, and LIWC-22, for natural language processing analyses of Zelenskyy's public speeches and diplomatic discourse. Zelenskyy demonstrated agency, adaptability, collaboration, and positive language patterns, suggesting confidence and optimism, according to the data. In addition, the research emphasizes how domestic and international factors influence state behavior, as well as how political demands, cultural, historical, and political factors influence Zelenskyy's decision-making.

Decades ago, Glenn D. Paige questioned killing and violence in politics, presenting nonkilling political science as an alternative. Activists and researchers from other disciplines have joined the movement by considering this new paradigm in their disciplines. Since then, some scholars analyzed the experience of activists promoting notions related to nonkilling, including peace and nonviolence. How to determine whether fundamental unenumerated constitutional rights exist, and if so, what they are? The questions are of obvious enormous importance—witness the current controversy over abortion—and yet courts have generally been content to address the issues superficially, sometimes, cavalierly. Their treatment of the most common rationale, an historical/traditional consensus, exemplifies this shallow approach. The underdeveloped character of the argumentation on this topic stubbornly remains one of the most glaring shortfalls of modern constitutional law.

The 2020 U.S. presidential election saw rising political tensions among ordinary voters and political elites, with fears of election violence culminating in the January 6th riot. We hypothesized that the 2020 election might have been traumatic for some voters, producing measurable symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We also hypothesized that negative sentiment towards the opposing party correlates with PTSD. We measured PTSD with a modified PCL-5, a validated PTSD screener, for 573 individuals from a nationally representative YouGov sample. We modeled the association between affective polarization and PTSD, controlling for political, demographic, and psychological traits. We estimate that 12.5% …

After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, research on foreign terrorism became extensive in the United States while research on domestic terrorism and violent extremist radicalization was lacking. Despite the research that has been done, there was a lapse in scholarship analyzing terrorism radicalization and its relationship with criminology. The purpose of this general qualitative study was to analyze the perceptions of experts in terrorism and criminology about how factors of criminology can explain violent extremist radicalization. In January 2023, climate activists trespassed on the site of the German energy firm RWE’s Garzweiler coal mine to protest against its plans to expand operations there. The police eventually removed the protestors (including Greta Thunberg), many of whom were charged with committing criminal offenses. การปรับโครงสร้างกำลังพลถือเป็นองค์ประกอบสำคัญของการปฏิรูปกองทัพจีนในปี 2015 ภายใต้การนำของ สีจิ้นผิง ซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของยุทธศาสตร์การฟื้นฟูความยิ่งใหญ่ของประเทศหรือ “ความฝันจีน” โดยมุ่งสร้างกองทัพที่ทันสมัย เข้มแข็ง และมีประสิทธิภาพสูง เพื่อเป็นหลักประกันความมั่นคงและผลักดันการยกระดับสถานะของจีนบนเวทีโลก การปรับโครงสร้างกำลังพลของกองทัพจีนประกอบด้วย การปรับลดกำลังพลลง 300,000 นาย และการปรับสัดส่วนกำลังพลระหว่างเหล่าทัพ ผลการศึกษาพบว่าการปรับโครงสร้างดังกล่าวช่วยให้กองทัพจีนสามารถจัดสรรงบประมาณได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพมากขึ้น โดยเฉพาะการลงทุนในเทคโนโลยีและอาวุธยุทโธปกรณ์ที่ทันสมัย เพิ่มประสิทธิภาพในการฝึกอบรมกำลังพล การวิจัยและพัฒนาด้านการทหาร และการบูรณาการการปฏิบัติการระหว่างเหล่าทัพ นอกจากนี้ การปรับโครงสร้างยังส่งผลให้กองทัพจีนมีขีดความสามารถในการปฏิบัติภารกิจที่หลากหลายมากขึ้น ทั้งในระดับภูมิภาคและระดับโลก โดยเฉพาะการพัฒนาขีดความสามารถในการปฏิบัติการทางทะเลในพื้นที่ยุทธศาสตร์สำคัญอย่างทะเลจีนใต้ รวมถึงการส่งเสริมการขยายอิทธิพลทางทหารในระดับโลกผ่านการจัดตั้งฐานทัพในต่างประเทศและการสร้างความร่วมมือด้านความมั่นคงกับประเทศพันธมิตร การปฏิรูปครั้งนี้จึงถือเป็นก้าวสำคัญในการวางรากฐานสำหรับการพัฒนาประเทศในระยะยาวและการเสริมสร้างอำนาจของจีนในเวทีโลก อันจะนำไปสู่การบรรลุเป้าหมายการเป็นมหาอำนาจชั้นนำของโลกภายในปี 2049 ตามวิสัยทัศน์ “ความฝันของจีน”
