The problem of access to library services for students with visual impairment in African countries has been noted by several authors (Ekwelem (2013), Ayoung, Baada & Baayel (2021) and Aubrey & Mapulanga, 2016)). In response to many of the problems people with visual impairment encounter in libraries, the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) in 2016 endorsed the Marrakesh treaty and encouraged other libraries to adopt it to minimize the key barriers to access to information experienced by people with visual impairment. In response to the 2020 global pandemic, the University of Minnesota Archives sought to gather digital content documenting the public health crisis and institutional response to COVID-19. Staff identified university-produced podcasts from several departments as information-rich contemporaneous content that was also at high risk of loss. Over the course of this work, we determined that these podcasts should be preserved in our institutional repository, as we came to see University podcasts more broadly as a digital serial publication. This OER contains the materials to adapt 'The Cost of Research' display created as part of Chester Fritz Library's programming for the 2021 Open Access Week. It demonstrates how much it would cost a reader without access to institutional resources to obtain the research underlying a single short academic article. It also looks at how much it would cost to flip those same resources to open access based off their publishers' current APC charges. This display could best be used as part of educational programming focusing on the economics of scholarly publishing.

Engaging students with an online library does not have to be limited to research purposes only. This essay includes lesson plan ideas that use the Louisiana Digital Library to engage middle and high school students in ways that help amplify their curiosity and explore their identities. To ensure the lesson plans engage the whole student, I ground them in three components (culturally sustaining pedagogies, trauma-informed classrooms, and project-based learning) and seven core values. This paper takes the sonification (the translation into sound) of data from sterilization recommendations made under eugenic laws in the United States as a case study in navigating the terrain between a commitment to caring for and with impacted communities and the potential affordances and perils of using sensitive collections as data. The author discusses ways that feminist care ethics and collections as data research intersect in a digital humanities project.

This paper uses the example of the development of a digital collections program at Harvard University’s Houghton Library to provide an introduction to building programmatic and equitable collections online. Focusing on why, how, and what goes into programmatic digital collections through examples of ongoing project workflows and special projects workflows, the paper introduces methods for digital project planning that center diverse histories.
