This collection contains materials on the Bridgewater State Normal School alumni Charlotte R. Brown. The contents of the collection are a mix of primary paper materials and copies of related materials from other collections located in the university archives. The primary materials are predominantly correspondence from other students who attended the Bridgewater State Normal School in the 1840s. The box also contains one folder of general information relating to the Bridgewater State Normal School Class of 1844.

This small collection contains a variety of items relating to Helen Nunamaker, including player documentation and league affiliations, news clippings, one scrapbook, and a multitude of photographs. Folder seven contains 15 (majority signed) photographs of Parichy Bloomer Girl players from the 1947 NGBL championship team. All but two of these signatures have been deciphered. The biographical sketch of Nunamaker largely derived from the letter her sister, Bonnie, wrote in 2010 to the donors of this collection (located in folder one).

Part 1 of “Searching for Paumanok: A Study of Library of Congress Authorities and Classifications for Indigenous Long Island, New York” evaluated Library of Congress (LC) bibliographic tools and sources for description and arrangement of Indigenous Long Island collections. Part 2 details the processes for identifying and assessing subject headings, names, and classifications with an emphasis on decolonizing methodologies. The authors discuss practical strategies for examining representations of Indigenous peoples and their homelands in LC Authorities. The study culminates with a knowledge organization schema to improve bibliographic control and understandings of Indigenous Long Island history and culture.

Knowledge Bases and Related Tools (KBART) is one of the most successful National Information Standards Organization (NISO) recommended practices. Formally supported by over eighty organizations across all stakeholder groups, it enables a standardized transfer of data between content providers and knowledgebases. The KBART Standing Committee has begun work on Phase III of KBART, which was last updated in 2014. Bertha Levi played in the Amateur Softball Association (ASA). Levi was also known to participate in basketball, rowing, and track and field. The ASA was founded in 1933 and would later be called USA Softball (USAS). She played for J.J. Kreig’s Alameda Girls team, based out of Alameda, California. Madeline “Maddy” English was born in 1925 and grew up in Everett, MA. Lacking opportunities to participate in local sports while growing up, in 1939 at age 14 she joined a traveling Massachusetts softball team that played summer exhibition games. This experience also gave her initial exposure as an up-and-coming athlete. Not restricted to one sport, English was also successful in track and field as a young athlete. Background: The multi-station, summative OSCE includes a case designed to assess third-year medical students’ ability to access information at the point of care using Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) resources. Over the years, students have perceived this case to be difficult and confusing, which resulted in low performance. To address these concerns, a librarian-led EBM case learning session was developed and integrated into the formative, practice OSCE starting in 2018. The goals of the session were to increase understanding of how to search the vetted resource effectively and efficiently, incorporate evidence into practice, and emphasize the importance of EBM in clinical care. …

When trying to manage their e-resources, librarians spend a significant amount of time adjusting their holdings in vendor knowledgebases to make sure that the content their library can access is selected properly. This is often a tedious process, which, extrapolated out to each content provider, can be a drain on library resources. A National Information Standards Organization (NISO) recommended practice provides a solution to this problem by facilitating the automatic transfer and retrieval of library-specific Knowledge Bases and Related Tools (KBART) holdings data between content providers and knowledgebases. Graduate students in master of library and information science (MLIS) programs face competitive job markets, and while many students work while studying, it is a challenge to gain meaningful and relevant work experience. This chapter discusses the role of advocacy in the graduate student work experience. We argue that self-advocacy, while a practical necessity for many graduate students, is problematic due to its roots in neoliberal ideals of individualism. Drawing on our own recent graduate school experiences, we will explore ways that self-advocacy both helped and harmed us. We will ultimately suggest alternative ways that mentors and student supervisors can …

As the concept of a “practice-ready” attorney continues to grow in both law firms and law schools, law school libraries are meeting this need by offering programming related to legal technology. In this article, a law librarian from the United States discusses their successes and failures in creating and maintaining legal technology programming, a first step in a larger conversation on practice-ready law graduates. This article is based on a June 2021 presentation given at the annual conference of the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians.

Digital Searching: A Grounded Theory Study On The Modern Search Experience, Nicolas Armando Parés

This Grounded theory study explores US adults' modern information search process as they pursue information through digital search user interfaces and tools. To study the current search process, a systematic grounded theory methodology and two data collection methods, a think-aloud protocol and semi-structured interviews, are used to develop the theory. The emerging theory addressed two tightly connected research questions that asked, “What is the process by which humans search and discover information?” and “What is the process by which search and discovery interfaces and tools support the modern search process?”

The Edith Dennison Bloomer Girl Collection is part of the Kathleen Bertrand and Linda Lundin, Honoring Women in Sports Collection. The collection contains two items: one large, oval photograph of Dennison pitching in 1910, and one scrapbook of newspaper clippings possibly compiled by Dennison. Louis Serle (L.S.) Dederick was born in Chicago in 1883. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Harvard University in 1909. From 1909 – 1917 he was a professor at Princeton University. From 1917 – 1924 he was professor at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. In 1926 Dederick began working for the U.S. Army, Ordnance. During his time there he was the Associate Director of the Ballistic Research Laboratory at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, Maryland where he focused on ballistics research.

Post Cancellation Access Collections to Improve ER Troubleshooting and Collection Development

At Minnesota State University, Mankato, we actively maintain and reconcile Post Cancellation Access (PCA) Collections in the Alma Library Management System (LMS). These collections enable us to distinguish permanent holdings from leased holdings, which would go away if we stopped subscribing. In consequence, (1) our troubleshooting burden is reduced, (2) we can judge the value of our subscriptions more accurately, and (3) we can pursue collection development projects and reporting more quickly, with deeper understanding.

This chapter conceptualizes an inclusive framework for decision-making in the selection of synchronous or asynchronous technologies to enhance engagement in online learning. Technologies are discussed in light of their utilization and value for course and curriculum design and development in online environments, with the considerations of providing sustained support, and optimizing technology and teaching efficacy. The content presented in the chapter will benefit those who develop and support synchronous and asynchronous learning environments to address challenges when transferring courses to online or hybrid modes.
