Increased diversity, demographics, and population shifts in higher education have led many academic libraries to reexamine their marketing efforts and adopt strategies that promote relationships and inclusivity. This requirement has become more prominent among libraries serving a highly diverse user community, particularly in a more racially and ethnically diverse campus. Adopting a marketing model that cultivates more meaningful long-term relationships with customers ensures long-term satisfaction and loyalty to the library brand. Using marketing and promotional examples from the James White Library, this article addresses the academic library’s relationship marketing strategy in an increasingly multicultural higher education environment.

Traditionally, library data has been designed for the use and consumption of humans, and it is not integrated with the Semantic Web. If we transform library data into linked open data, it will increase the visibility and usage of library data on the Semantic Web. Within the past few years, the calls for transforming library data into linked open data have become more and more frequent. In order to increase the value and discoverability of library data, libraries have been exploring options for making library data available and useful outside of the data silos of the library world through the …

From a research data repositories’ perspective, offering research data management services in line with the FAIR principles is becoming increasingly important. However, there exists no globally established and trusted approach to evaluate FAIRness to date. Here, we apply five different available FAIRness evaluation approaches to selected data archived in the World Data Center for Climate (WDCC). Two approaches are purely automatic, two approaches are purely manual and one approach applies a hybrid method (manual and automatic combined).
The results of our evaluation show an overall mean FAIR score of WDCC-archived (meta) data of 0.67 of 1, with a range of …

Issues And Challenges In Indian Multi-Lingual And Multi Scripts Bibliographic Retrieval Systems, Shivpal Singh Kushwah Dr., Ritu Singh Dr.
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Multilingual retrival systems are very important for countries like India, where we have multiple scripts and many languages for verbal and written communication. The creation of a multilingual interface for the retrival, management, and processing of information and knowledge needs systematic efforts and requires related features in the Library Management Software and the availability of bibliographic records in catalogues.
This paper is an effort to study various related aspects of multilingual record creation and retrival provisions in Union Datanases. The development of a multilingual environment for accessing and retrieving library resources among the users as well as library professionals is …

Library Faculty & Staff Presentations
How are MARC records performing in our search environment? This presentation will look at the process and results of a research project that analyzed how users’ search terms matched up with MARC fields, as well as how and where MARC records were displayed in search results lists. Presenters will discuss the process, the results of the project, and outline how attendees can implement similar research projects at their institutions, including tools and techniques they can use to analyze how their own records are surfacing in a search environment.

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Libraries exist to meet its user’s basic needs for information by acquiring and organizing information resources, creating enabling environment and providing adequate services to users. Once users’ needs, future trends and resources available have been established, the librarian is in a position to plan the marketing objectives, the resources to be used, the place and the time scale of the operation and the strategies required in achieving them. Information professionals must therefore understand that it is essential to actively advocate and market their services. School of Information Studies - Post-doc and Student Scholarship
Although emotional labor—defined as the process(es) by which a worker manages their feelings in order to produce the desired emotional response in a customer—has been studied in various fields and specific domains of librarianship, this topic has yet to be examined in school librarianship. In this exploratory article, I perform a close reading of school librarian job postings to surface expectations of emotional labor and explicate connections to the feminized history of librarianship. The article closes with a call to action, outlining steps for administrators and researchers to prevent the potential harms of emotional labor in school librarianship.

When the Public Library Association holds its 2022 conference in Portland March 23-25, those overseeing the event will include Stephanie Chase, an association board member and the executive director of the Libraries of Eastern Oregon.
About one-third of libraries in eastern Oregon are staffed with just one person. Still, Chase’s organization, a consortium of 15 rural county libraries, offers access to a bigger collection of materials than people living in the sparsely populated region could previously have dreamed of, including the 66,000 ebooks and audiobooks accessible on a smartphone through OverDrive’s Libby app.

During the 2020-2021 academic year, which was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers had limited access to physical repositories for historical research. Both the limitation of in-person archival access and the growth of digitization led to a greater use and reliance on digitized primary source materials. This preliminary study examines the approaches undergraduate and graduate history students took to find and access primary sources online amidst the pandemic. An expanded study has the potential to provide insight on search methods, types of repositories used, types of primary sources used, the use of online vs in-person sources, and factors for digital …

Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students
Many academic libraries are increasingly called upon to support and provide training and instruction to graduate students on scholarly communications issues such as open access, copyright, research data, identifying legitimate versus predatory publishing opportunities, and related topics. Many of these areas align with needs librarians face in their own work, especially for those whose jobs offer opportunities (or requirements) to participate in tenure and promotion processes. In order to meet their own professional development and career needs while also preparing to support the specialized needs of graduate students, librarians must keep abreast of the changing scholarly communications landscape and seek …
