Health Concerns Of Kentucky's Library Workforce During The Early Covid-19 Pandemic., Anita R. Hall, Brandi Duggins

Faculty and Staff Scholarship

Although research early in the pandemic primarily emphasized libraries’ pandemic response and service to patrons, more interest has developed regarding library workers and their experiences. This study seeks to understand the impacts library workers experienced from the beginning of institutions’ initial pandemic response through the end of 2020. This article focuses on a subset of the data related to the health concerns and impacts Kentucky library workers experienced during distinct phases of the early pandemic. Responses to this survey indicate that workers required to be onsite were impacted more frequently with COVID-related health concerns while all library workers experienced significant …

[Purpose/significance]The participation of archival institutions in scientific data management is of great significance for optimizing the scientific data management process and realizing the collaborative management of scientific research archives and scientific data.[Method/process]Based on the DCC data curation model,this paper adopts case study method to investigate 5 cases of scientific data management practices in scientific research institutes,scientific research enterprises and higher education institutions,and summarizes three main modes of archival institutions participating in scientific data management,including function combination,resource sharing,and independent operation.[Result/conclusion]It is found that archival institutions are not involved widely in the formulation of scientific data management strategic plan currently and the …

Approximately 61 million (or 1 in 4) adults in the United States have a disability. Despite this prevalence, many people cannot name a coworker who is disabled, possibly due to the number of people who have invisible disabilities. This lack of understanding of both causes and prevalence can cause both the disabled and their supervisors or managers to be unaware of how to address a disabled person’s needs. Over the past few years, there has been an increase in libraries recruiting positions such as DEI Librarian, Librarian for Inclusion, and Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Organizational Excellence. The positions are often vague about the job responsibilities but specific about the expectations of promoting EDI- whether in collections, staff, or culture. This article explores this DEI work through an interview with Ione Damasco, the Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence, Engagement, and Operations at the University of Dayton.

Clemson’s business and engineering librarians have partnered to create a two-step, efficient process to assist Bioengineering Senior Design students in understanding patents and patent searching and market research. Clemson University’s required two-semester Bioengineering Senior Design program matches teams of students with regional clinicians to develop biomedical devices that they research, design, prototype, and test. In the first semester of the program, in which the business and engineering librarians are involved, students take BioE4010-Bioengineering Design Theory. Electronic resources undergo various changes during their lifecycle from evaluation, to acquisitions, to renewal or cancelation. To keep users abreast of these changes, effective communication is necessary between the electronic resources librarian and the library team. Effective communication is equally important between the electronic resources librarian and library users. At Queens College Library, the Library Team consisting of faculty librarians and staff are alerted to electronic resources changes through emails and posts to a Microsoft Teams library channel. This research study investigates the behaviors, knowledge, and skills necessary for academic library outreach work. Through a review of published literature, job advertisements, and a survey of library practitioners conducted in the fall of 2020, the authors define and prioritize 18 competencies for outreach. Hiring managers, LIS instructors, and practitioners can utilize the results of this study to structure and lay out the essential areas of outreach work in academic libraries.

Purpose – The goal of this research aims to explain how a university library handled the epidemic -19 that began in March 2020. This research examines the library's state throughout the dilemma and shows how the epidemic has posed unexpected hurdles to digital services.
