The intention of this bibliometric study is to examine the research on the use of graphic novels in classrooms and libraries during the past two decades to highlight how this topic has changed and developed over time. The focus of the research is on the use of nonfiction graphic novels in the English Language Arts, Writing, Social Studies, History, Science, and Math classrooms. This study notes similarities in the research on uses for graphic novels and identifies the prevailing journals which have published articles on this topic. It is time to consider if cookbooks hold this disparity and closely look at the gender of authors in the culinary world. This study explored gender within the CODES List-Cookbooks 2019-2022, a juried list of cookbooks published 2018-2021, as well as determined if Texas public colleges and universities carry these titles. By evaluating this juried list of recommended cookbooks, libraries can use the research to take a closer look at their cookbook collection. While it is standard for academic libraries to support education and research, many libraries also offer space or dedicated programming to promote the wellness and self-care of their users. Addressing student wellness demonstrates responsiveness to institutional priority and efforts to meet evolving student needs. In addition, it serves as an excellent opportunity for libraries to innovate and collaborate visibly in the community they support, further committing to a culture of wellness. This study examined wellness initiatives, resources, services, and events offered in academic libraries that support medical schools in the United States.

A content analysis of 53 public library systems’ websites listed on the Public Library Directory of Mississippi Library Commission was conducted. The purpose of the study was to find types and levels of digital services offered by these library systems. The term “digital services” has been more used in recent literature, which suggests that more libraries started offering more since the start of COVID-19. This study intended to look closely how Mississippi’s public libraries follow the national trend.

What is a library in crisis? One definition is that a crisis is an event beyond the normal situation that acts as a disruption to library operations and services and can damage the library’s reputation (Pedraza, 2010). These situations draw attention, usually negative attention, and scrutiny by the library’s user population, political/government entities, and even at times, the attention of the nation via outlets such as social media. Just this past year in 2021, the American Library Association (ALA) had to release a statement in response to an increase in censorship of materials centered on LGBTQIA+ issues and books by Black authors, Indigenous authors, or other people of color. The statement in its entirety is found here: https://www.ala.org/advocacy/statement-regardingcensorship. The statement reaffirms that ALA and its Executive Board, Divisions, Roundtables, and other units stand firm in the freedom to read and against censorship.

During the pandemic, our library, like many others, made the switch to promote library resources for an online centric world. Book displays were reimagined in the form of LibGuides, online flyers and social media posts became more commonplace to reach our patrons. Yet throughout all this online marketing, we had overlooked our institutional repository (IR) to disseminate our creative works. That changed in 2021, when we decided to start uploading poster presentations created to promote library resources and realized that in effect, we became content creators. The recent rise in anti-Asian violence in the United States necessitates urgent and immediate scholarly engagement and classroom interventions. The fact that Illinois and New Jersey are the only two states to make Asian Pacific American history a mandatory part of public school curricula—and only did so in 2022—should trouble anyone who believes in equitable representation and education.Drawing on the expertise of two librarians and one political science professor, we created an assignment in the spring 2022 semester—for the first “Asian American Politics” seminar ever offered at Gonzaga University—that combined physical and digital resources for a new kind of archival …

Public libraries are trusted community hubs that foster connections with individuals of different socioeconomic statuses; ages; ethnic, linguistic, religious, and cultural backgrounds; and sexual and gender identities. Located in diverse settings, library branches offer resources and programs that meet the specific needs of their communities who are navigating the effects of our increasingly asocial society. Libraries have been shown to cater to individuals contending with higher levels of social isolation and loneliness, as well as increased rates of mental illnesses and antisocial behaviours. The article presents a conversation between artist and professor Elodie Silberstein and feminist academic librarian Susan Thomas about the evolution of feminist zine culture ingrained in histories of resistance and self-publishing as well as the current popularity of zines. The authors discuss their collaborative zine pedagogy in an introductory gender studies course at Pace University during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The paper addresses the methods and general conclusions portion of an experiment that evaluated user preference and search experience using Google Scholar and Utah State University (USU) Libraries' Encore discovery layer as a starting point for research. USU's 2019 Ithaka S+R Faculty survey highlighted that our faculty utilize Google Scholar more as a starting point for their research. To triangulate these findings, the experiment attempts to identify which search methods undergraduates prefer.

In 2021, four tenure-track academic librarians surveyed academic library workers who are parents to gauge how parenting affects symptoms of burnout. The COVID-19 pandemic caused an explosion of burnout related literature resulting in an oversaturation of the word in today’s society; however, the authors remain deeply impacted by their research. In this paper, two of those four librarians reflect on the effect that the survey on burnout had on their approaches to management, work, and personal life. Burning The Candle At Both Ends: How And Why Academic Librarians Who Are Parents Experience And Combat Burnout At Work, Michael Holt, Amy Chew, Jessica Lee, Robert Taylor

Academic librarians already wear many hats, juggling a multitude of skills and duties in order to meet the needs of their patrons. When one of those hats is parenthood, however, balancing work and home life can sometimes seem like an insurmountable task. In this chapter we explore how and why academic librarians who are also parents experience burnout, as well as methods used to combat burnout by examining the results of a nationally distributed mixed-methods survey. The survey also addresses practices to combat and prevent burnout, both on a personal and institutional level, and the perceptions of their effectiveness.
